What Of The Future

It seems to me that the whole world is going mad, for we have unrest all across the globe from the Far East to America. In many countries people are demonstrating and fighting the government for what they see as human rights and bad management. Many people are dissatisfied with their governments handling of crisis that effect them all, such as low wages, starvation in some countries, and the way governments are handling problems.

We also have Muslim terrorists everywhere threatening the stability of countries across the world. It makes me wonder what they hope to achieve, do they want the whole world to be Muslim?

Daily we see demonstrations in many countries, and not forgetting the violence as people show their hatred for the government.

When I was young the biggest demonstration in Britain was from the miners who were dissatisfied with the government of the day and the decisions made by Margret Thatcher. But since the sixties we have seen violent demonstrations with young people setting fire to buildings and cars, robbing shops, and battling with the police. Now we see huge gatherings of people marching through cities and towns all across the world causing destruction.  This is not the way the world should be.

Ever since ISIL came out of the woodwork we have seen complete destruction of many cities in Iraq and neighbouring countries, and it will take years to revitalise these cities. Most of the buildings will have to be demolished and a new construction programme initiated. This will cost untold billions, and where will it come from? Your guess is as good as mine!

We have seen millions of Africans on the verge of starvation, and food is not getting to the them fast enough. Many countries ignore the plight of these people and they are dying by the hundreds every day. Children are starving to death from the lack of food. Very few nations have sent food to these people and many are unable to survive.

We have seen millions of refugees coming to Europe because they cannot continue living in there own country and want a better life, and its not over yet. Governments must see that the people are fed so they will not need to move to Europe. But so few nations have taken the necessary measures to see that this happens.

The biggest threat to the whole world is the problem with North Korea and their nuclear weapons. Trump is consistently making threats of a nuclear war with the country as Kim Jong-Un enlarges his nuclear capability and threatens the USA with attacks. Trump has already said that he will annihilate the whole country if Kim Jong-Un decides to attack the USA. The fall-out from such an action would turn the whole world  into devastation, and millions of people would die as the whole world ends up being covered in radioactive clouds.

When will this stop and people of the world can live in peace once again? I doubt if this will happen in my lifetime. It is sad to say that if we keep going the way we are, we will see the annihilation of the human race on this planet.

It’s Time For Some Drastic Action

20170805_LDD001_0Underlying the troubles across the world are we headed for a nuclear war? There are tensions between Russia and the USA, not to mention the threat of North Korea which is the most dangerous country on the planet. I doubt if the Russians will start tossing nuclear weapons at the USA, but the threat of North Korea is by far the biggest. It is doubtful that Kim Yong Un will start a war with the USA for his country will be totally annihilated if it happens.

But who can tell what is going through his mind with threats passing back and forth. He now has nuclear weapons that will reach a great deal of the USA, and if he fires one at the USA, Trumps reply will be catastrophic for the whole country.

A lot of people will suffer because the nuclear radioactivity will blanket most of world and many people will suffer.

Not only do we have the threat of nuclear war but people are dying from malnutrition in places like Africa. Some world countries are sending food to Africa, but it is nowhere enough. People are dying from hunger in many countries and it doesn’t seem to stop.

We have billionaires who stash their money in many places across the world and they should be made to help these poor people. How on earth could someone save billions?

Traffic around the world is also one of the biggest problems in the world today. Watch the news and you will see that many Chinese cities, and many in India are suffering from major contamination of the air. These are not the only places in the world that have smog so thick you can see only 100 meters.

There is no doubt that we must clear up these problems if the world is to survive. Temperatures are rising all across the world and they have decimated the north and south poles, for the ice is slowly melting and this could make the seas rise to unprecedented levels that would flood areas like Florida and many others. We have unprecedented temperatures in areas like Africa and the Middle East among others where people can no longer live.

All this due to the carbon dioxide that is circling the Earth and preventing the excess heat from dissipating in to space.  If this world is to survive we must do something about it, for it will get worse as time goes by. By maybe 2050 this planet will be unlivable and human kind will cease to exist.

The Refugee Crisis

5def63e92068eeac6e6c4be91ce1c625--emergency-food-african-historyCurrently there are 6 million people without enough food and water, and many nations are being overrun with refugees from various countries. Among these are Europe, African countries, Bangladesh, Myanmar and many other country’s in the Far East. In Africa nations are very slow in providing these people with food and water for them to survive, and we can see the death toll will be great.

The weather patterns have changed around the world to such an extent, due to Global Warming, that it is impossible to grow food in a great part of Africa and many other places around the world. You can see daily pictures and newsreels of people dying from a lack of food and water.

Many are Muslims escaping the terror of Islamic State terrorists who are spreading across the world. They kill indiscriminately anyone who gets in their way, and this includes fellow Muslims. They burn villages and towns and the sad thing is, no-one is doing much to stop them. For years we have had the ongoing war in Syria and the surrounding areas, but the progress is very slow. In areas such as the Far East the pace is much slower, and the governments do not make a determined effort to wipe these people out.

imagesThe fight against these Islamist’s has been going on for more than ten years, but if the United Nations had got together a multi-national force it would have been over in months.

Ever since the end of the Korean War the U.N. has sat on its backside and done nothing but talk talk talk. They have not made any concrete steps to tackle this global problem, but just ‘condemn’ with words the actions of Islamic State. It is not enough!

All across the world people are dying at the hands of these monsters who want to rule the world. They will never achieve this because so many countries are against them and Islam. Sadly it does not stop them from trying to gain the upper hand.

As I see it, this war will go on for a good many years if some positive action is not taken against them. Even in Europe we see people die through attacks by Muslim converts. You will notice that those Islamic State members who infiltrated Europe do not take part in the action themselves, but convert and train many Muslims who have lived here for years into carrying out these acts of terror.

Many Muslims living in Europe do not openly support Islamic State, but secretly they would like to see Europe as a Muslim nation. In comparison to their homeland they live in luxury in Europe, but if the whole of Europe suddenly came under the control of the Muslims, the standards of living would rapidly deteriorate until it became like the land they had come from. The Europeans would suffer hardship as never before and become a target for them.

images (1)Everyone knows of the Sharia Law, and we would see Europeans being hung from lampposts, stoned to death, or given a merciless beating, and this includes women. All Westerners would have to abide by Sharia Law, so would you like your wife to wear a burka?

I have to say that the world has become a hellhole in the last twenty or so years. Life was so much better when I was a child.

A Wasteful Society

I could hardly believe what I read in the news today. Did you know that in Britain they literally throw away 10 million tonnes of food every year? I could hardly believe it when I read it,  for the figure seems impossible. It makes me wonder what the figure is in America and Canada, for they have much larger populations.

Spot The Difference

Spot The Difference

The average amount of good food that is thrown away by households in Britain is 260kg a year, and it makes me wonder why. With so many starving people in the world these figures are astounding.

One of the reasons is of course over production of food items in the country because of the great quest for profit. Secondly, it is the dates that producers put on their goods to show the maximum usage time for food which are not always accurate. Buying a loaf of bread would indicate that it must be eaten within, say three or four days, and then thrown away. It just means that after that period you need to go out and buy a new one – hence more profit for the bakery, the manufacturer and the farmer.

Much of our food will last way beyond the date that is stamped on it by the manufacturer, but many people don’t realize this, which leads to massive food waste.

A company in Britain has started gathering this food ‘waste’ and is providing a source of cheap food for those less well off. “The Real Junk Food Project”, started in Leeds, is gathering this so-called waste food from supermarkets, local businesses, restaurants and even allotments and selling it to the less well off.

The Real Junk Food Project

The Real Junk Food Project

People pay what they think the food is worth, not a fixed price, but can also work in the warehouse for the food they take with them. There can be little doubt that this company is a boon to those of us who are less well off.

But on the other hand, it is a disaster that so much food should be thrown away just because the expiry date has been exceeded.

As I mentioned before, all this food is being thrown away, while in many countries the people are starving to death. Of course it is not possible to ship this excess food to say Africa, but surely something can be done. Perhaps our farmers should be putting part of their fields aside to grow food that can be shipped to Africa and other starving nations.

Over-production is using up resources and killing the ground on which we grow our crops. In the end a large portion ends up in the rubbish bin. Why do we not scale back production to stop this drastic waste? No-one will consider that because it eats into their profits, and that is what its all about.

Yeuk! Eating Bugs?

Posted in America, Britain, Children, England, Environment, Forests, UK, United Nations, USA with tags , , , , , on 14/05/2013 by floroy1942

Believe it or not, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) seems to think we should start eating creepy crawlies! Are they really serious? Well, I think the general consensus is they are, and heaven knows what the effects will be, not only on human health, but on the planet.

Bon Appetite!

Bon Appetite!

For hundreds of years, we have detested the sight of ugly little bugs that infest our homes, damage our crops and plant life, and become a damned nuisance. I suppose it would be poetic justice if we now reversed the roles and began to eat them. The pesky little critters wouldn’t know what hit them.

Biscuit Anyone?

Biscuit Anyone?

For sure, there are already 2 billion people around the world who regularly consume insects as part of their diet “because they are delicious and nutritious,”, according to Eva Mueller, director of forest economics at the FAO. The report states that many restaurants in Europe are beginning to feature bugs on their menus. I have to say that the first time I go into a restaurant and see bugs on the menu, I am out of there ‘tout suit’.

There can be little doubt they have a high nutritional value, being high in iron and protein, but not for me I’m afraid. I just can’t imagine catching a fly in the living room and popping it into my mouth as a snack!

Your Favourite Meal?

Your Favourite Meal?

In some countries, beetle larvae and termites are considered a delicacy, I need to find out which countries they and make sure I never go there. I guess I am an old fuddy duddy who, like many westerners would rather swat a bug than eat it.

The FAO pointed out that turning to bugs could help with world hunger and food shortages, which as any intelligent person will know is inevitable as the world population increases. They also point out that we could start feeding bugs to animals, presumably cattle, pigs and poultry etc. as a way to save vital crops for mankind. As you would expect, the animals will not have any say in this.

American Midwest Drought

American Midwest Drought

There can be little doubt as the population rises still further in years to come, there will be many countries joining the likes of Africa with its millions of starving people. In the future, it could even be America, for as we have seen this last year, tremendous droughts caused by climate change have stricken the growing fields of the central states that supply much of the country’s food. Even tiny England has had its agricultural areas smitten by drought. We have only begun to glimpse the effect global warming will have on our planet.

Rise In Global CO2 Levels

Rise In Global CO2 Levels

We have increased food production over the last fifty years to where the soil has long been exhausted, and now will not grow our essential food crops without masses of artificial fertilizer. We are decimating the forests that supply the planet with oxygen to the extent, that atmospheric CO2 levels have reached a record high that has not been seen on Earth for more than 3 million years. Now they want us to start on the bug population that is essential to continuing plant and bird life on the planet. The mind boggles!

Pretty Soon There Won't Be Anything Left For You Chum!

Pretty Soon There Won’t Be Anything Left For You Chum!

In my view, anyone who thinks that our plant life will successfully survive without bugs is a fool. We rely on the humble bee to pollinate our crops and plants for example, and the bee numbers are already in decline from pesticide use, but now the FAO says they are on the human menu! Birds are essential to keeping down the numbers of insect pests and the pollination of crops and plants, but from an estimated world population of between 200 to 400 billion in 2010, the numbers have declined rapidly as we destroy the forests and wooded areas. What does the FAO think that birds and small creatures eat? Well for the benefit of the illiterate among my readers I will tell you – Bugs! If the human race turns to eating these creepies the chances are it will have a devastating effect on bird and small animal life.

Can You Look At This And Say We Don't Have A Problem?

Can You Look At This And Say We Don’t Have A Problem?

There sure isn’t going to be enough bugs around to supplement the feeding of 8 billion people, a figure that is rising year on year I might add, and feed the bird and small animal population. The FAO seems to think that we can ‘farm’ bugs just like we do everything else, so does that mean all the wild ones will be perfectly safe and will not be gathered as food, or to start a ‘bug farm’.

World Population Reality

World Population Reality

We are successfully raping the planet of its natural resources, and no-one, with perhaps the exception of China, is taking any action to stem population growth, which will eventually destroy us all as more people begin starving and the food sources dry up.

It takes intelligence to accept what we are doing and unfortunately, the lack of it, coupled with the selfish attitude of people today, means all the warnings are being ignored. All that remains to be asked is: What of your children and their children?

India’s Shame – The Starving Children

Posted in Britain, Child Abuse, Children, Health, Human Rights, News, Nuclear Proliferation, Nuclear Weapons, Torture, UK with tags , , , , on 24/11/2011 by floroy1942

In a country that has seen enormous economic growth in the last decade, has nuclear weapons and a space programme, its hard to imagine that 41.6% of its people are reliant on foreign aid to keep them alive.

India´s Economy – Set for 8.5% Growth Per Year

Since 2000, the economic wealth of India has grown to the extent that it is now the ninth largest economy in the world, and fourth largest in terms of purchasing power, and yet many of its children are starving to death.

India first tested a nuclear bomb in 1974 and now has an arsenal of such weapons. Year on year the government is spending billions of dollars to develop, aircraft, aircraft carriers and submarines as a means to deliver them, and yet many of its children are dying of hunger.

Space Programme – More Important Than Children´s Lives?

The country also has an expensive space programme which has put up several satellites, the first being Aryabhata, launched in 1975 aboard a Russian rocket, and yet the children of India are starving to death.

With hardship so widespread in India, some 41.6% of the population are living below the poverty line according to 2005 figures, it is hard to imagine that the country can afford the extravagance of nuclear weapons and a space programme, but such is the mind of governments!

Looking For Scraps

Ever since India joined the free-market economies of the world, it has seen a massive increase in the middle class sector, due for the most part to the country embracing modern technology and providing services to other countries. The destitute have however been left far behind in this growth, for India has more starving people than the whole of Africa. Recent estimates put the number of people  below the poverty line in Africa at 410 million, while in India the figure is 645 million. The latest population estimates indicate India has in excess of 1.2 billion inhabitants which makes it the second largest country after China  in terms of inhabitants.

Ever since 1947 when India was given independence by the British Parliament, our government, among others, has been pumping aid money into the country to the tune of hundreds of millions of pounds every year. The present government under David Cameron has elected to continue paying £280 million a year until 2015 into the coffers of the Indian government in New Delhi. India has one of the largest food aid programmes in the world.

Ultimately Responsible?

What is now under discussion, is what happens to that money?

This is where the ancient beast corruption raises its head once again. Not surprisingly, it is not only the low level workers that are stealing aid intended for the poorest families, but many government officials who are supposed to oversee distribution.

Desperate For Food

Rations Packs intended for the most needy children are being systematically hi-jacked on route and sold on the black market as, believe it or not, animal feed. In the meantime, the poor, for whom this aid means life or death, are dying from malnutrition to the tune of two million a year. Some 61 million children (48%) in India suffer from stunted growth due to malnutrition.

A Mother and Dying Child

I really have no idea if this is the Indian governments macabre idea of population control, or if it is just plain greed and corruption, but I hope it’s the latter. Whichever way you look at it, many people are getting obscenely rich over the corpses of the country’s young. Also, it seems to me we are doing nothing more than footing the bill for their nuclear and space programmes, for the one thing that seems to be missing is a sense of priorities.

The Children Are Dying

Posted in Atlantic, Britain, Children, England, Environment, Forests, Health, Human Rights, Oceans, Somaila, Spain, UK, UN, United Nations, USA with tags , , , , , , , , , on 26/09/2011 by floroy1942

Children are dying daily, and almost no-one notices. It is a sad fact that very little Press coverage is given to the human suffering in Africa, where hundreds of people are dying of hunger and disease.

It is not unusual for such occurences to be pushed from the front page of the newspapers by the attention-grabbing headlines about Libya, the Palestinian situation, and the economic crisis. These stories attract readers, while the problems in Africa have been going on for decades. The sad truth is, the story is just not newsworthy.

It does not detract however from the huge suffering encountered in so many African nations. While small children, and grown-ups, are dying by the hundreds every day on this strife-torn continent, the rest of the world looks on and says; “Oh Dear! What a shame! What’s happening in Libya?”

A Dying Child

Aid, such as basic foods and medicine, have for decades been pumped into various African States by well-meaning governments and aid organizations, but it doesn’t help very much. It has reached the stage where the populace live from hand-to-mouth, relying totally on the aid groups. With this attitude, there is little justification for the respective governments to take long-term measures to fix the problem once and for all time.

What Happens To Aid In Africa

Part of the problem is without doubt the massive corruption and theft of not only money, but aid goods also.

Given As Aid – But Sidetracked To The Local Market

Many corrupt politicians and officials have made themselves rich by siphoning off money from donations. It is an everyday sight in many North African towns to see sacks of aid grain for sale openly in the markets.

There is not much by way of a ‘self-help’ programme that will get water to the areas of drought and famine. Water is always scarce in Africa, but there must be ways of getting this precious commodity to the parched areas of the country.

European Oil Pipelines

We lay pipelines for thousands of miles to carry oil to those that need it, but to lay the equivalent for water seems quite impossible. Why? We have laid oil pipelines from  Russia to Western Europe with a distance in excess of 2,000kms, and yet Lake Turkana is only 700kms from central Southern Sudan, and Lake Victoria is just over 1,000kms! Surely, it must be possible to have pipelines carrying water from the great African lakes and rivers, or even desalinated water from the sea, to make these barren lands fertile once more. Once the ground is fit for purpose, it is necessary to plants huge areas of trees.

I can hear the question ‘why’ already.

Rain Forests Of The World

Think for a moment where the most rain falls annually on our planet. If you check your maps, you will find it is mostly in heavily forested areas such as the Amazon, African and Far East rain forests, which is why they are called ‘Rain Forests’. Trees have the ability to change weather patterns like nothing else on the planet. A century ago there were many trees in northern Africa, and the climate was more stable than it is now.

Britain has seen dramatic changes in weather patterns in the last fifty years, ever since huge swathes of woodland were removed to make room for crop growing. Even Romania on the other side of Europe suffers in the same way.

The Green Wall – An Environmental Group Plan

It is inescapable that much of the African problem has been caused by the people themselves. Their only source of fuel in these poor areas is wood, and over the last century, trees have slowly disappeared from the landscape, and now there is not a single one left. This is one of the reasons why the Sahara Desert is continually growing in size by an estimated 30 miles per year. It doesn’t sound much until you see how it has grown since the middle of the last century. Trees bind the soil together and prevent erosion, and in the long term, eventually ensure sufficient rainfall.

If the soil can be made fertile enough to support such growth again, turning back the clock and revitalising the near desert areas of Africa will, in many years time, bring back the rain.

I know it sounds simple, and I can hear many people scoffing at the idea from here, but take one example.

Senseless Destruction Of The Amazonian Forest

The Amazon Rain Forest was once the mightiest forest on the planet, until greedy men started chopping it down. Now, huge swathes of this important forest no longer exist, and what do we have? This year the area suffered its first drought! Drought in the Amazon Rain Forest is unheard of!

As a subsequence of this malicious attack, we have now made a major change to the weather patterns in the Atlantic, which in turn have affected the weather in the Caribbean, the USA and even Europe.

I Would Never Be A Sailor! An Atlantic Storm

It is impossible to say that the destruction of the rain forests is the only reason for these weather phenomenon, for the warming of the oceans has also played a part, but I think this is more the reason for the increase in hurricane and typhoon activity.

Rain Forest Cleared For A Palm Plantation

This whole scenario has been duplicated to a similar degree in Africa and the Far East. In places like Indonesia and Borneo, whole tracts of rain forest are being destroyed to make way for palm trees. So why you might ask, do they want to plant so many palm trees? Palm oil is used for the production of biofuels that are supposed to help save the planet! Now there’s an irony!

So now you may understand my drawing the conclusion that forests have a significant effect on the weather!

Of course, part of the problem is cost. The countries that need it are not in a position to finance such a venture, but then why should the rich nations of our planet, or the IMF, not foot the bill? Of course it will be expensive, and require huge investment by the rich nations, but is this not preferable to the African Continent continually draining money from the world economy for the next thousand years? For there is little doubt, the problem is only going to get worse!

Money Wasted On Aid?

I would hate to estimate how much money has been donated by individuals, charities and governments over the last forty years or so to help the poor of Africa, but you can imagine it must run into trillions of dollars. Would that money not have been better spent on a long-term solution, or are these same people willing to spend another trillion dollars in the future?

While poor, the people of Africa could sustain themselves if their land was fertile enough to produce the food they need. It is in this area that aid would be most useful.

Unless we can motivate the African people, and countries can come together to make their lands fertile again, they will never be able to get out of the abyss they currently find themselves trapped in.
