It’s All About Money – The Grenfell Tower Disaster

The Grenfell Tower disaster has cost many lives, and for sure the number of dead will increase as the investigation continues. If proper safety measures had been installed in the tower this would never have happened. But as usual it all comes down to money.

Businesses are always looking out for the cheapest possible way to solve problems, and this is evident in the Grenfell Tower killings. Why did they not install sprinkler systems to safeguard all floors? Why did they not use fire-retardant cladding on the outside of the building. These are questions that should be asked when the investigation begins.

Money rules the country in this day and age and all businesses are out to make as much profit as they can by  spending as little as possible on a project. Safety is of little concern to these people and they just hope that nothing happens.

It has been reported that the cladding fixed to the outside of the building was not fireproof and this was the major cause of the whole tower becoming a raging inferno. People living on the upper floors were not able to get down to ground level and save their lives so they all died in a most horrible way.

If the builders of the tower has spent a little more money to make the highrise safer many more would have survived. But it is a sign of our times where money rules everything.

I can understand the frustration of those that have survived for they have lost everything. Families, sons and daughters, parents and friends all because the builders wanted to save money. It is tragic when money rules everything.

Throughout the world the highrise has become extremely popular for we see them in cities across the world. Some may have the proper safety procedures, but not all, in fact, very few.

I think you are in constant danger when living in a highrise for the danger of fire is a constant threat. It only takes some idiot to make a mistake lower down and the entire tower is in danger.

The builders of these towers need to do whatever they can to make them safe in the event of an accident. They need to ensure that if a fire breaks out it does not spread to other floors, and that there is a proper escape plan for all residents. As these buildings get older the risk of tragedy gets steadily worse.

Car Recall Scandal

Car manufacturers are failing their customers in a steady stream these days, as we see today that Toyota recalls some 340,000 brand new Prius Hybrid cars for problems with the brakes. This is one of a long stream of recalls over the past five years from almost every manufacturer on the planet. Volkswagen, Ford, Citroen and General Motors among many others have had to recall vehicles because of major faults.

Why is this happening? Years ago you could trust a new car to be totally safe and reliable, but now? What is it with these manufacturers that cause this?

In my view it is cost cutting to make more profit, but it is having the reverse effect as the repairs are costing these companies millions. People are spending a huge amount of money to buy a new car, and yet each time it is a lottery whether the car will be recalled at some future date because of a major problem, if it doesn’t kill you first.

Because of these problems people are dying, and it’s not always certain that their relatives get any compensation from the companies involved.

Years ago you could buy anything from a screwdriver to a car and know that it will last you for years, but these days manufacturers like to build in a ‘life limit’ on things produced today. That of course ensures that within a certain period you will be forced to go out and buy a new one. More money for them!

It is without doubt a sad indictment of our times when manufacturers only think of profit and never quality. But let’s face it, almost everyone is at it these days.

Examples Of Health And Safety Stupidity

The Caption Says It All

The Caption Says It All

Health and Safety, implemented to improve safety standards and working practices, has ended up a sordid mess. Rules were introduced arbitrarily by  over-zealous individuals, who thought they were doing the right thing, but were in reality making a mockery of the rules, and turning people’s lives into hell.

A power company, supplying large areas of Scotland, introduced a couple of years ago a new ‘H&S’ regulation for its staff. All car drivers must reverse into parking spaces, and all people using the stairs must use the handrail. Disciplinary action would be taken against violators! Typical of someone’s idea that they can implement regulations in the name of H&S for their idea of the ‘common good’.

Among the more ridiculous interpretations of the rules comes the case of an Old Age Pensioner George Pretty (72). He made a weekly run to the local fish and chip shop to get meals for the OAP’s in the home he was in. He had been doing it for years, until some erstwhile Housing Warden told him he must stop because he did not have an insulated box to carry the meals in, and this was against H&S rules.

You will love this!

The Midlothian Council, again in Scotland, left all the lights on at night in an abandoned high school. The reason, vandals entering the property might injure themselves. According to a spokesman at the time, they had a duty to do this because as owners of the property they could be sued if someone hurt themselves after entering the premises illegally.

Two regional BBC Show presenters wanted to do a trial on their programme to see who could change the wheel of a car the quickest. To satisfy H&S, a mechanic was called in to do a risk assessment, and eventually the producer decided the trial could not go ahead unless a paramedic was standing by. Does this mean that should you ever suffer a puncture at any time, you must call an ambulance before you can change the wheel?

It would seem that even bar staff are allowed to interpret the H&S laws as they see fit. In March 2009 a woman, 26 weeks pregnant, was having a rare pint of lager with friends in a pub when she was asked if she would like another half. Having already decided that would be her limit, she was shocked to hear the bar-woman refuse to give the friend her drink because she was pregnant. She let it go without a fuss, but a little later, took a sip from a friends glass at which point the assistant manageress marched over and told her and her friends to leave the premises immediately because as a pregnant woman she should not be drinking alcohol. A blatant display of her using her limited powers to force her opinion of pregnant women and alcohol onto the unfortunate woman. To their credit, the brewery did offer the woman and her friends a full apology. As to the ‘SS’ managerial assistant, who knows, but I hope she never gets to be a manager.

For 43 years, 63 year-old Graham Alexander has cut the grass of the large roadside verge outside his house, until recently that is. In 2010 he was told by Wiltshire Council that he must leave it for the contractors, because he is “endangering himself and others and could be hurt by the mower or flying debris.” Should he continue he would be prosecuted.

This sort of insanity is not solely restricted to private individuals, it can affect government institutions too. The British Coast-Guard Service have done valuable work around the shores of Britain for hundreds of years, rescuing sailors and civilians alike when they get into trouble. Ever since the First World War they have been using flares fired from a flare pistol to illuminate large areas during a search for people or ships. Now they are forbidden for H&S reasons. The official view is that infra-red cameras, night vision goggles and spotlights have made the flares redundant. The Coast-guard did not agree, and still use them when necessary.

Isn’t it amazing how people and times change, and how pathetic some people can be? To be fair, part of the reason for institutions taking the stance they do, is the rampant ‘compensation culture’ rife in Britain for the past twenty years. You can be sued by someone who breaks a nail while typing on your computer for example, or even by a burglar who gets hurt while breaking into your house. Crazy Huh!

As just about everyone knows, over the past couple of years people have died because, for example, the rescue services have not been able to do their job because of these stupid regulation, so it is really about time they were given a good going over and all the trash removed.

It makes me wonder who the insane ones really are, those in the rubber rooms looking out, or those on the outside looking in!

Keep smiling – it ain’t over yet!

Muslims Will Not Submit to Airport Body Scanners!

Posted in Al Quada, Arab, England, Insanity, Insurgents, Muslim, Terrorism, Terrorists, Travel with tags , , , , , , , on 13/02/2010 by floroy1942

Airport full body X-Ray scanners are being introduced at airports at an increasing rate to combat extremists taking bombs onto aircraft. These extremists are Muslims, and yet all Muslims they have been told by their religious leaders not to submit to them. So we have a situation where the very people these scanners are intended for will refuse to co-operate. It’s too incredible for words!

The Fiqh Council of North America has issued a ‘fatwa’ (religious ruling) ordering all Muslims not to allow themselves to be scanned because ‘it is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women’. It is true the scanners do not leave much to the imagination, but considering the reason behind the scanners, I would think most people will accept them because at least they will have more assurance that their aircraft will not be blown out of the sky somewhere along the route.

Terrorists are becoming more and more sophisticated in their methods, as was proven by the attempted Christmas bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab when he attempted to detonate plastic explosives hidden in his underwear. As a result, airport scanners have been introduced at forty airports across America, plus Heathrow, Manchester, and others in England. There is little doubt they will become a feature across most of the worlds airports within a year.

The apparatus has one function only, and that is to stop potential suicide bombers from boarding aircraft. Protestants, Methodists, Buddhists, Hindu’s and Presbyterians to name but a few, are not in the business of blowing up aircraft in an effort to claim their 72 virgins, that is down purely to the Muslims, and they are the ones refusing to go through the scanners! What it means in effect, is that all the innocent travellers will have to submit, but the ones who are carrying out the attacks will be excused!

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has said, ‘Muslims will have the option of a ‘pat-down’ search by security guards’ if they object to the scanners. In Britain however, passengers who refuse to go through the scanners may be barred from boarding. The British are still waiting to hear from their Muslim Council to see whether they will follow the American lead.

The one thing that bothers me about this fiasco is reports that extremists are preparing to hide the explosives inside their bodies. Various institutions have made clear that many of these suicide bombers are prepared to undergo surgery to have explosives inserted in their abdomens, and for women bombers to have explosive breast implants. So how will a ‘pat down’ discover that? The simple answer is, it won’t! Even the scanning ‘wands’ will not be able to detect such things, but full body scanners will.

So what does the world do now? Well, so far as I am concerned, if Muslims will not submit to the full body scanners they had better buy a bus ticket!
