The Princess and the Paparazzi

No, it’s not the title of an up-and-coming blockbuster from Hollywood, but a real life drama that is currently in the news. From reports, it would seem that some enterprising paparazzi photographer managed to get close enough to snap pictures of Princess Kate sunbathing topless in a private retreat while on holiday in France. More damning is that a French magazine called Closer, did not think it wrong to splash the pictures all over the front cover.

Needless to say, this has caused a little more than just a stir in the hallowed halls of Buckingham Palace, and both the Royal Family and officials are up in arms about it. Personally I think this whole episode is reason enough to go to war with the French! No, sorry, just kidding – No really!!

Chateau D’Aulet

Prince William is said to be ‘livid’ at the invasion of privacy and I must admit I agree with him. He is currently taking legal advice on how to proceed against either the magazine, the photographer, or both. In my view he should make an example of these people and hammer them for everything they have. To me it is just intolerable the lengths some of these paparazzi will go to get an ‘exclusive’ photo, and the magazine and paper owners who perpetuate this kind of act by publishing should be put on the rack!

Its long past time when these people need to realize that celebrity or not, you still have a right to private moments. What is going to be the next stop, a photo of Harrison Ford or Angelina Jolie sitting on the toilet?

Hounded to Death By the Paparazzi

We went through this whole saga when Princess Diana was hounded to death  by the paparazzi. Nothing was done then to curb their insatiable appetite for invading people’s privacy, and to be honest, I don’t see much happening now over this latest incident.

It is for this reason that I fervently hope Prince William and  Princess Kate take the magazine, the magazine’s editor, and the photographer to the cleaners. From information to date it does not seem likely that President Hollande or the French government are inclined to do anything and it disgusts me.

In Happier Times

All you ever hear from many people, especially the Press is; ‘Freedom of the Press’! To a certain extent I agree, the Press should not be muzzled on points that affect the people, or a political scandal, but there are limits. They trumpet about the Human Rights of ordinary individuals, but do people like Princess Kate not have the same rights? It seems not!

In years gone by there was always a ‘Code of Ethics’ that governed the Press and it was a code that ensured they did not overstep the boundaries of decency, but in the last few years that has all gone out the window. They do not care for ‘decency’ any more and all they are interested in is what boosts circulation. For me it has gone way too far!

If there is no other way to stop this rot then any paper or magazine that prints such stuff should be shut down immediately – for good. Maybe measures of that nature will once again bring back the hallowed ‘Code of Ethics’ of old.

Update 14/9/12

Thankfully, their Royal Highnesses have decided to take legal action against Closer magazine. All I can say is good luck, and make them pay handsomely for their cheek!
