The Message

I just read a news piece about an eighteen-year-old Pakistani girl who was burned to death by her mother for marrying a man she loved. Just another example of the so-called ‘Honour Killings’ which take place in Pakistan on a regular basis. From the report it seems that the mother strangled her and set her alight even though she was still alive. Its hard to imagine the pain this young girl must have gone through before she died.

The Aftermath

The Aftermath

When the case came to court the mother was sentenced to death for this outrageous crime, a decision I agree with totally. The woman confessed to killing her 18-year-old daughter, Zeenat Rafiq for “bringing shame on the family”. None of her family claimed her body for burial, and it was left to the in-laws to perform the burial ceremony.

It has for a long time been the tradition in Muslim lands like Pakistan for the daughter to marry a man who is chosen by the parents. This sometimes happens with children as young a seven or eight and they have no say in it. The marriage can be for a number of reasons, like paying a debt to the man or family of the husband, or simply to cement ties with the family of the groom.

Whatever you may think of this practice, to me it is barbaric, but it is an unwritten law among some societies. The Pakistani government have tried to stop this practice but it still goes on because it is tradition among some sectors of Pakistani society. Numerous honour killings have been carried out in Pakistan, where mainly girls face the wrath of family members for marrying a man of their choice.

A Victim

A Victim

In July 2016, Pakistani social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch was allegedly strangled to death by her brother in the province of Punjab. In the same month, British woman Samia Shahid was allegedly killed by her father and her former husband after she chose to divorce him and marry another man. In Pakistan alone there are over a thousand such honour killings a year, and nine times out of ten no-one is punished.

In accordance with tradition the killers can be ‘forgiven’ by the victim’s family and no further action is taken by the authorities. New legislation was passed by the government in October 2016, but many ignore it for they stick with tradition. The new law provides for a mandatory prison sentence of 25 years to anyone convicted of killing for the sake of family honour, and no longer allows family members to legally pardon perpetrators. The law permits forgiveness only of an “honour” killer who is sentenced to death; if the killer is forgiven, he would still have to serve 25 years in jail.

In my view it just goes to show how backward these people are to have such a tradition. In this day and age you would think that such a practice would be a thing of the past, but it is not.

The Muslim religion is well-known throughout the world for its barbarity, like chopping off the hands of thieves, stoning to death of women and executions with a sword. There can be little doubt that Islam is the most barbaric religion on the planet. Will it ever end? I doubt it for it is so ingrained in their culture.

Fourteen Year-Old Pakistani Girl Shows What the Taliban Really Are

Malala At Age 11

Ever since the Taliban shut down her school, Malala Yousafzai from the Swat territory of Pakistan has been campaigning against the Taliban. She was just eleven years old when she started writing a blog for the BBC’s Urdu channel, telling the world what it was like to live under the yoke of the Taliban.

In 2007, when they seized control of Swat and the other border areas in Northern Pakistan after a ‘peace’ agreement with the government, they began a systematic reign of terror that included strict Sharia Law, mass executions, and the closing down of all centres of education for girls. All this in the name of Allah!

Typical Taliban Execution

Then one small girl of eleven began writing a diary of events as they happened under the Taliban. Her writings covered the sufferings of the people under the sadistic regime of the Taliban, and were picked up by the BBC and put into a blog.

Malala Receives Pakistan’s Peace Prize

She soon became famous, and after the insurgents were driven out of Swat by the Pakistan Army in 2009, she was given the highest civilian award by the government and was nominated for an international peace award for child activists. She had always written under the pseudonym Gul Makai, but when she received the award her real name came out. From that day the Taliban were out for vengeance.

Now aged fourteen, they finally caught up with her yesterday, and although details are not clear, a Taliban gunman shot her in the head, it is thought as she was about to board a school bus. The man even asked for her by name so there is no doubt she was the target.

Ehsanullah Ehsan – Taliban Spokesman

A spokesman for the Taliban, Ehsanullah Ehsan has already made public the fact that his group were responsible. Making a statement via telephone he said: “She was pro-West, she was speaking against the Taliban and she was calling President Obama her idol…….She was young but she was promoting Western culture in Pashtun areas.” The Pashtun area of Pakistan is where most of the Taliban fighters come from.

On the subject of the attack, the Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said: “We have to fight the mindset that is involved in this. We have to condemn it… Malala is like my daughter, and yours too. If that mindset prevails, then whose daughter would be safe?”

My only answer to that Raja is: “Actions speak louder than words my son”! So don’t just sit in your fancy chair pontificating about it, get your army organized and go after the bastards!

Malala On Her Way To Hospital

Although shot in the head, and some reports say also in the neck, encouraging reports are now coming from the hospital to say she seems to be out of danger. There can be little doubt that if she comes out of this episode successfully, the Taliban, by their vicious sadistic act will have created a world renowned  figure capable of doing their cause great harm. It can only be hoped that this brave young girl lives and is able to testify to the world all about the sadistic excesses of this greatly feared group of insurgents, and in particular the incompetent and lazy Pakistan government who have done nothing positive to deal with the Taliban.

All she wanted to do is be allowed to go to school and fulfil her dream of studying law and entering politics, but in the Taliban mind that is a death sentence. So much for the love of Allah and his prophet Mohammed!!!!

Which Side Is Pakistan On In The Fight Against Terrorism?

Posted in Afghanistan, Al Quada, America, Britain, England, Obama, Taliban, Terrorism, UK, USA with tags , , , on 24/05/2012 by floroy1942

For years Pakistan has said it is against al Quada and the Taliban, and ‘aided’ the US and NATO nations in their joint assault on these terrorist groups, but there has continually been a suspicion of doubt as to which side they are really on. I think we now have the answer!

Dr. Shakil Afridi – Traitor or Patriot?

It has been reported that the Pakistani doctor who helped find bin Laden has received a 33 year prison sentence and fine of $3,500 for treason! That to me says it all! For the good doctor to assist the CIA in finding the most hated terrorist of all time would not in my book be treason, but calls for a medal. The Pakistan government however obviously thinks differently, which must mean to my mind, that their loyalty to the western cause of defeating terrorism is somewhat lacking. The latest reports indicate there is concern that several people who assisted the Navy S.E.A.L.s in their operation have also been arrested.

There are many unanswered questions surrounding bin Laden’s ability to live successfully for years within a stone’s throw of a Pakistani military facility and remain untouched and unseen. Under normal circumstances this would seem impossible.

Bin Laden’s Hideout

The American’s did not inform the Pakistani government of its intention to send in S.E.A.L.S to get him, for the simple reason they suspected someone, particularly in the intelligence community, would tell the al Quada chief of the impending raid. After all that’s happened, I am pretty sure that if the government had been told, the bird would have long flown by the time they came knocking at his door.

In this particular case I am in full agreement with President Obama and his military chiefs, in that it was a chance too good to miss and certainly worth the political fallout afterwards.

World’s Most Wanted Terrorist

I have to admit to considerable scepticism on Pakistan’s commitment to the fight against terrorism, especially since they called off the military campaign against the Taliban strongholds in the North-Western Provinces a couple of years ago before it was completed. Stopping the cleansing operation when only half completed was I believe a sop to the USA and other NATO countries, but was not done with any real intent of wiping out the al Quada and Taliban bases on their side of the border.

It cannot be denied the Pakistan government has had to deal with a long list of cock-ups perpetrated by the American Military, such as the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers at a border outpost during a drone strike and the killing of innocent civilians by the same method, but to be honest, that is all water under the bridge, for now we have more evidence of the reluctance among government circles to come to grips in a positive way with terrorism.

However, to me the last straw must surely be the sentence handed down to Shakil Afridi, the Pakistani doctor at the heart of the story. He did what he thought was right, and probably for an extremely large cash payout from the CIA, and it lands him in jail for the rest of his life. No matter the motive, the fact that he was of help in handing over bin Laden should earn him the gratitude of the whole world in my view.

Tough Times Ahead For The Taliban?

Posted in Afghanistan, Al Quada, Arab, Britain, England, Europe, Insanity, Insurgents, Islamic Revolution, Muslim, Obama, President, Religion, Sharia Law, Taliban, Terrorism, Terrorists, UK, UN, United Nations, USA with tags , , on 07/05/2009 by floroy1942

Good news at last from Pakistan! After reading my blog post of 21 April the Pakistani Government has decided to rout the Taliban completely (Just kidding – I don’t think they read it , its just that great minds think alike).

Fighting has been going on for a week now and the militants have been more or less pushed out of Bunar Province, and the battle continues in Swat.

Today, The Pakistani Prime Minister ordered the Army to “Eliminate militants and terrorists” meaning presumably the Taliban and Al Quada. If the Pakistani Army can maintain their push into the heart of the Swat Territory, the Taliban stronghold, they will force them over the border into neighbouring Afghanistan where they came from in the first place. Now all we need is for the NATO Forces to be ready for them when they do! Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place!

The trouble is the terrain. Being extremely mountainous, it makes the job of the Coalition Forces very difficult in finding and tracking them. It was the terrain that defeated the Russians when they invaded Afghanistan in the early eighties.

I would imagine their best weapon will be drones that can loiter for hours over a section of mountains scanning for movement. Infra-red cameras could be used at night, and once militants are detected, it should not be too difficult to track them and move troops in ahead of them by helicopter to set up an ambush.

Now that sounds like a straightforward plan as I sit here with a cup of tea in my nice apartment in front of the computer. Piece of cake he said with a smile!

The truth is of course another matter. While I wish the troops on both sides of the border great success in ridding us all of this scourge, I do know it will not be easy. People like the Taliban are experts at moving through these mountains, they had enough practice against the Russians after all.

The meeting this week between President Obama and the heads of both countries told us that there appears to be unanimity of purpose by all sides. Talk is one thing, but try this for size.

There has been a great deal of criticism of the United States for the deaths of civilians during drone attacks in Pakistan, and aircraft bombing in Afghanistan. You know, and I know, that people like Al Quada and the Taliban, are constantly using civilians as human shields, although it seldom appears in the news because that does not sell newspapers.

However, today’s BBC News page does quote Riffatullah Orakzai of their Urdu Service saying eyewitnesses have stated that the Taliban have set up roadblocks in the Swat Valley for the express purpose of stopping refugees from leaving.

You see! It doesn’t matter which group it is, Al Quada, Hamas, Taliban, they are all the same, and then the world cries out for the good guys to stop killing civilians, when we should be condemning the terrorists!

Anyway, I digress. Would it not be prudent of President Obama to provide non-combatanthelp to the Pakistani Army by means of unarmed photographic drones, with the express purpose of scouting ahead of the army and warning them of Taliban ambushes and roadside bombs? It would be of tremendous help to the army, and would certainly help Pakistani/American relations.

All I need now is the President, or someone in the Pentagon to read my blog!! Nah! It won’t happen! We will see in the coming days if someone comes up with this plan.

The good thing about the push by the Pakistani Army is that it may capture Al Quada and Bin Laden in the net too. I don’t think they have a cat in hell’s chance of capturing Bin Laden, but I should imagine his group are feeling somewhat uneasy at the idea of the army knocking on their door shortly.

Let’s face it, they all hide in the same areas of Pakistan, and the army, if it keeps going to the border will surely flush them out. One quick bombing run and Bye Bye Bin Laden and his hierarchy. Now wouldn’t the populace cheer at that news! I certainly would.

I am sure there are many people who will now sleep a lot safer in their beds at night, knowing the Taliban will not get hold of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. It seemed like a close run thing this time last week, but thankfully common sense has prevailed, and we have been saved the horror of a terrorist group with nuclear missiles.

Should that ever happen in the future, I think I’d move to Mars! It’s quieter there.

Here’s hoping I never have to miss our blue planet.

The Pakistan Government Reads My Blog?

Posted in Afghanistan, Al Quada, Britain, England, Insurgents, Islamic Revolution, Muslim, Religion, Sharia Law, Taliban, Terrorism, Terrorists, UK, UN, USA with tags , , on 23/04/2009 by floroy1942

WOW! Does someone in the Pakistani Government read my Blog, because they seem to suddenly have woken up to the Taliban threat!

An article in one of today’s newspapers informs us that the Taliban have all but taken over Buner Province and are starting to spread their influence even further. That’s what happens when you allow a viper to enter your house and then expect it to go to sleep?

All government officials and aid agencies have been ejected from the region, and police have been forced to retreat to their barracks. The governmental judiciary and courts have ceased to function as the Taliban take over with their Sharia Law.

They are now starting to infiltrate other neighbouring provinces also. In Upper Dir, a senior government politician was kidnapped yesterday and held by militants for several hours before being released.

Everywhere armed militants patrol the streets armed with AK47’s and R.P.G’s. When confronted with this I doubt anyone would be brave enough to object. Intimidation is a powerful weapon.

It seems the United States has up woken up to the threat before the Pakistani Government. Hilary Clinton addressed the Congress with a warning “the Pakistani government is basically abdicating to the Taliban and the extremists,”. She went on to say that any worsening in the situation “poses a mortal threat to the security and safety of our country and the world.”

If the Taliban succeed in taking over Pakistan imagine what that will do for Bin Laden and Al Quada! No-one will able to touch him or his followers and the world will descend into anarchy.

It would appear that the government tried to appease the militants with the peace deal, but all they have done is release a caged dragon and given it a home.

You can never appease militants because they have no conscience whatsoever, they do not care how they achieve their aims just so long as they do.

At the Taliban headquarters in Imam Dheri near Mingora, spokesman Muslim Khan said their aim was first Sharia in Pakistan and then all Muslim countries. He is quoted as saying that this did not only cover the law, but also education, health and economics.

The militants have already started to demolish schools in Bunar Province, and I suppose all archaeological sites and ancient monuments will follow as they did in Afghanistan.

It is time the world, and in particular the other Muslim countries woke up to the fact they have a viper in the nest and it needs to be killed once and for all time.

All other Muslim countries seem content to ignore the threat of these radicals, thinking it won’t affect them, but it will, and soon. I wonder what the people of AbuDhabi, Saudi Arabia and other moderate countries would say when the Taliban start moving in on them after they take over Pakistan?

Just imagine they succeed in taking the whole Muslim world into Sharia. Does anyone imagine they will stop there? All democratic countries would be next. Fancy a mosque just up the street, public floggings and hangings in Times Square? I don’t!

Education would be for men only, and the Taliban would ensure your level of schooling would not be such that you would be in a position to challenge them. Women would be little more than possessions, like cattle, with no rights at all.

Another downside, is you would never know who you were marrying because you would not get even a glimpse of what you were getting. You may imagine you are about to wed a nubile eighteen-year-old only to find under the robes on your wedding night a fifty-year-old hag! Now there’s a thought!

Even if these people succeed, they are doomed to failure because no system of this magnitude could hope to keep control for long. The problem is, how much harm would it do in the process.

If the Pakistani Government is slow to react they will lose the battle before it has even begun, and peace in the world will be in peril.

Pakistan must open itself to offers of military help from around the world and stamp out these radicals once and for all time. Preferably before they take over the country and control its nuclear weapons. I shudder to think what will happen if maniacal idiots like these get their hands on such weapons.

The Muslim countries also need to see the urgency of action before it is too late. They can no longer afford to sit on the fence and hope the problem goes away. The longer they wait the worse it will be for them, and us, in the future.

There is time, just!

Here’s hoping you never see your wife in a Bhurka!
