Come Back Winston! Britain Needs You – Again!

I dread to think what would have happened in 1939 if we had had the present government. Thankfully we didn’t, we had Winston Churchill and survived.

OK Winston - You Can Start With Today's Government!

It depresses me somewhat when I see Cameron and Clegg’s handling of the defence budget. Now, the First Sea Lord, a post held very successfully by Winston Churchill, has come out in opposition to the cuts made by the government. Sir Mark Stanhope made the message very clear, if the Libyan campaign goes on for more than 90 days we will, militarily, be in trouble.

HMS Ark Royal In The Falklands

He severely criticised the loss of the carrier Ark Royal and its fleet of Harrier jets, saying they would have been far more effective against Colonel Gaddafi than the RAF flying from bases in Italy, which, let’s face it, you can’t argue with. The Italian bases are one and a half hours flying time from the action, whereas Ark Royal’s aircraft would have been a mere twenty minutes away.

He made it quite clear however that he was not calling for a reversal of the Ark Royal/Harrier decision for it had been accepted by the Navy.

Says It All Really!

It was his opinion that should the campaign run on beyond the ninety day limit currently set, ships from home waters would be needed to fill the gap in the Mediterranean. So what the hell would we do if we got involved in a real war?

His remarks will no doubt be seen as an embarrassment to the Prime Minister and his deputy, but hey! If the truth hurts….tough! But not to worry, our illustrious armed forces chief General Sir David Richards, has said there is absolutely no cause for alarm and everything is under control. Yea right! He sounds like a politician.

Politicians always look firstly at defence when they need to make cuts in spending. Our armed forces have been cut to the bone during the last two decades and there will sure as hell come a time when we, as a country, will regret their rash decisions.

Plenty Around!

At home billions of pounds are squandered each year on inefficient bureaucracy and lame projects that in the long term do not work. New government departments are set up at huge cost only to close down within months. We are overrun with bureaucrats who do nothing positive to earn their inflated salaries, because in many areas of government there are ten managers working where one will be sufficient.

Billions Wasted on Such Items

Governmental departments waste billions of pounds annually when paying outrageously inflated prices (300-400%) for things like copier ink cartridges and other office materials.

All this is going on from year to year but who gets hammered when its budget cut time, you guessed it, the military.

HMS Cumberland - Scrapped

It is no wonder US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates expressed his dissatisfaction at the recent NATO meeting. With the loss of Ark Royal (our last remaining carrier) and its Harrier jets, as well as the surveillance aircraft Nimrod plus a few other ships like HMS Cumberland, we are eating into the ability of our military to fulfill its commitments, and more serious, defend our island.

Sure, money does have to be saved to get us out of the monstrous debt which was Labour’s legacy to the present government, but there are better and more efficient ways than clobbering the military, like starting with government itself.

There Will Come A Time....Soon!

I have no doubt there will come a time, in I would think about five years, when we will need our armed forces badly but to find out why you will need to read my next post. There can be little doubt that if we continue as we are they will not be able to help us. Only time will tell if I am right or not.

Will A UK Identity Card Beat Illegals? – Yes or No!

Posted in Benefits, Britain, England, Government, Immigration, MP's, Parliament, Police, UK with tags , , , , , on 18/05/2011 by floroy1942

Oops! It looks like the UK identity card is raising its head again in Britain after the whole Labour plan was quashed by David Cameron when he took office.

Labour MP Margaret Hodge

The chairwoman of  the Commons Public Accounts Committee of MP’s, Labour’s Margaret Hodge, has raised the question of I.D. cards again as a means to combat the estimated 180,000+ immigrants that have overstayed their temporary work visa and lost themselves in the crowd.

It is well known that the UK Border Agency does not have sufficient information to accurately assess the number of illegals in the country, and Ms. Hodge suggests that ID cards would help identify those who shouldn’t be here. Personally, I think she is right!

Firstly, Ms. Hodge stated that border control would be greatly enhanced with the use of I.D. cards. Ms. Hodge is quoted as saying: “People will always find a way to come to the UK because of the advantages we offer. I would be tougher on eligibility criteria for accessing things like the benefits system, or accessing social housing, than focusing on numbers.” She added: “Without ID cards you can’t control borders and if you can’t control borders, pretending you can control numbers is simply never going to happen” (this last in reference to David Cameron’s promise to drastically cut immigration levels). Quite right Madam!

UK I.D. Card

It is a fact of life that most immigrants into Europe want to come to Britain, because they know it is so easy to get money out of the government in the form of benefits and they don’t have to lift a finger to get them. We hand it to them on a plate and like as not ask if that is enough! This does not happen in any other country – anywhere!

When Labour first raised the issue of a national I.D. card most people were up in arms at the idea. This is something I failed to understand, because I carried an I.D. card for 37 years during my service with the RAF and later with NATO, and it never did me any harm. It was always a swift and accurate way of proving who I was and never caused me any trouble, so I fail to see why the general public should be so upset at the idea.

I guess its the “intrusion into my private life” syndrome, or “big daddy is watching me” idea that puts most people off. The British have always been very protective of their ‘right to privacy’, but I do find it rather over the top. I never had any of these ideas when I carried one, in fact in many situations it made life much easier.

Nick Clegg On I.D. Cards:

Many countries in Europe like Germany and Holland require their citizens to carry such identification and no-one that I ever met objected to the idea, in fact they considered it quite normal.

German I.D. Card.

As a means of confirming someone’s identity it would greatly aid our law enforcement agencies to locate and identify those who are living off the fat of our labours by staying illegally in the country and drawing benefits. It would also be of great help when dealing with officialdom and banks etc. so why all the fuss. I can only suppose that those among us who object to such a measure have something to hide.

I think the main ‘bone of contention’ in Britain is the amount of personal data the government wants to collect on everyone. It would seem that when the scheme was first thought up by Labour, they saw it as a golden opportunity to store masses and masses of data on every person in the country, instead of just making it a means of identity.

The storing of DNA, bank details, addresses, family, fingerprints and the like are all way over the top and totally unnecessary. In effect, the politicians sank their own ship for they should have known the British people would not stand for it.

Everything On The Database – No Thank You!

On the plus side, people illegally in the country, and/or obtaining benefits, would be easier to catch and could cut the annual benefits budget by several million pounds a year, which means more for you and me! Fraud in all its forms would be much harder if people got used to the idea of checking someone’s I.D. card before doing business with them.

There is little doubt in my mind that the introduction of a national I.D. card would benefit everyone if only we could get over this phobia people have about them, and what’s more, persuade the government to only keep essential identification data.

The Unbelievable Stupidity of Some Voters!

Posted in Benefits, Britain, Budget Cuts, Elections, England, Government, Government Spending, Immigrants, Immigration, Insanity, Modern World, MP's, Parliament, UK with tags , , , , , , , on 30/01/2011 by floroy1942

Speaks For Itself!

Reading a news article today I was amazed at how short-sighted and stupid some of the general public are when it comes to voting. The results of an opinion poll just released, say that support for Labour now stands at 43% over the Conservatives 32%. In broad terms, this means that should a general election be held today, Labour would romp home with an 11 point lead.

As saving grace, the public does seem to think that Con/Lib George Osborne is more likely to solve the countries economic problems than Labour’s Ed Balls.

But in general, it’s the same old story really, one Party makes a mess of things, and their replacement, while trying to sort out the problems they inherited, get kicked in the shins. What a short memory Labour voters have!

Most seem to have forgotten already that Britain’s problems were caused by the incompetent Labour Party in the first place.

Architects of Chaos

It was the Blair/Brown combination that instigated the massive overspend and the huge unemployment with their policies during the Labour years. Now that is thankfully at an end, a shaky coalition is now trying to get the country back on its feet and find jobs for everyone.

While this is not an impossible task, it is clear that everyone must make sacrifices in order to balance the books. It has to mean higher taxes, and less take-home pay for all, for the simple reason there is no other way! But do the voters understand this? It doesn’t look like it.

People voluntarily taking a cut in pay to ease the financial burden is not unheard of. In this time of crisis it is happening in other countries like Holland. The people don’t like it, but they have the common sense to see that it is necessary to get the economy back on an even keel.

Another Broken Promise From Brown

Conversely, according to reports, it looks very much like Britain is about to be overtaken by a wave of strikes as workers protest at the measures taken. So this year, the working class will perhaps have to limit their drinking to 8 pints instead of 10 at the pub, and the middle class may have to spend their holiday in Blackpool instead of Majorca, but its only temporary folks!

Thankfully, the excesses encouraged by the last Labour government had to come to an end. Britain’s financial state is more precarious than it has been for decades, and only action by a strong government will balance the books at the end of the day. But it means everyone must make do with a little less!

Of course, if things follow the normal pattern, once the Tory/Liberal coalition have got the country back on its feet and the books balance once again, the voter will think its time for a change and Labour will be in again.

Labour’s Legacy – Immigrants Queueing To Get In

Tony Blair and his henchmen brought the country to its knees with their ill-conceived policies. Perhaps the biggest mistake was opening the country’s doors to allow just about anyone to come and live here, even extremists! For decades these people have lived off the tax-payer, made a mockery of our justice system, and when they do finally do some work, take jobs away from ethnic Brits.

What seems to escape many, is that the jobs market in any country is a fine balance between the number of inhabitants and the number of jobs available. Its simple mathematics: Twenty into twenty goes once – forty into twenty goes a half! If you have two applicants for a single job one must lose out, which in turn means he/she is living off the state in the form of benefits and dole money. More governmental expense.

The Final Goal

So this leads me to the question, why did Blair & Co actively encourage hundreds of thousands of immigrants to enter the country during their term of office. Well, according to ‘those in the know’, it came down to two things; Blair had a vision of a multi-cultural Britain, and of course, the immigrants were sure to vote Labour in a general election.

What We, The People Pay For!

But look where it got us! Immigrants living in stately mansions in the centre of London with a weekly rent of £2,000+ paid for by the tax payer! Its disgusting, its insulting and it should never have been allowed.

The country had its share of illegal immigrants too, but what did Tony do, he gave them free housing and benefits for all the years it took their case to be heard, and usually ended up giving them citizenship anyway. More expense to the public purse, and more jobs lost to those with the right to them.

Now we see the Cameron/ Clegg combination attempting to sort out the mess they inherited and getting caned for trying. What we the people have to consider, is the job will be very hard and we the people, must be willing to make sacrifices to achieve the goal of economic stability for all.

The Cost

It just seems crazy that many will vote in those who caused the trouble in the first place because they may lose £20 pounds a week. Balancing the country’s books in the current economic climate will be a sore test for any government, and although mistakes will be made along the way (no-one is perfect) it will be hard but equally necessary. This is no reason to vote in at the next election the clowns who got us in this mess in the first place. Better two years of austerity and a return to ‘the good life’.

On The Right Track? – Give Them A Chance!

One can only hope that future polls will see the balance swing the other way, for as we all know, they are only a rough indicator of public feeling.

Will The Current Defence Review Cost Britain the Falklands?

Posted in Atlantic, Britain, Budget Cuts, England, Government, Government Spending, Insanity, MP's, Oceans, Parliament, Royal Navy, UK with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on 27/01/2011 by floroy1942

As always, defence spending is the first thing to be cut when money is seen to be tight. And as usual, the politicians make the same stupid, short-sighted decisions. It seems the present Coalition is no different.

HMS Ark Royal

Currently, the Royal Navy is to be hit hard in that its aircraft carrier fleet is to be scrapped. True, two new carriers are supposed to be built to replace those we have now, but apart from the fact they will not be ready until somewhere around 2017, their future is now in doubt even though construction has begun, and in which £1 billion has already been invested.

Hopefully, One of The Royal Navy's New Carriers

All branches of the armed forces will be hit, but by far the most significant is the proposed phasing out of all three aircraft carriers by 2015. Ark Royal has already been decommissioned, and Invincible and Illustrious are soon to follow. This will leave Britain without a single carrier until around 2017 when, hopefully, maybe, the navy will receive their two replacements at a cost. This cost is a significant reduction in their surface ships to help pay for the new carriers.

It’s like the Falklands war of 1982 never happened!

Without her aircraft carriers, Britain would have stood helplessly by while Argentina took over the islands at their leisure after the invasion, with no amount of harsh words from Margaret Thatcher making any difference.

A Harrier Lands on Deck

As it was, our carrier force with their Harrier VTOL aircraft, was the only thing Britain had in its military arsenal that could effectively strike back at the invaders. As we all know, the entire operation was a resounding success.

But what of today and the near future?

It would seem the current government has forgotten the lessons of the past, and are ready and willing to make the same mistakes when the scrapping of the CVA01 carriers almost cost us the Falklands.

The Argentine government must be rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of a neutered Royal Navy who will be helpless should they try again in three or four years time. I’ll bet their generals have already started making plans for a new invasion of the islands, knowing full well the British will have no choice but to stand impotent on the sidelines.

The Mighty Vulcan Bomber

Since that conflict in 1982 the RAF has also suffered significant cuts to its budget and aircraft. During the previous conflict, the Vulcan and Victor cold-war bombers played a key role with their huge range of action, bombing targets like the runway at Stanley airfield and attacking the radar installations on the island. They too are long gone! Now Britain has no bombers at all with the range to strike at the Falklands.

The Harrier fleet, which proved so effective against the Argentinean air force has been decommissioned also, but that doesn’t seem to stop the politicians from a proposal which will see a scaling down of the number of Joint-Strike fighters to be ordered.

The Falklands

As I see it, this defence review will prove to be a catastrophe for the Falkland islanders, who in my view had better start learning Argentinean, for in about four years time they will need it.

Election Debacle

Posted in Britain, Elections, England, English Schools, Immigrants, Justice, MP's, Parliament, Prison, UK, United Nations with tags , , , , , , , , , on 07/05/2010 by floroy1942

So the wait is finally over, and Britain takes another firm step towards oblivion.

Even the election was poorly organized, with complaints from tens of thousands of people across the country who said the polling stations closed their doors at 10pm and they were not allowed to vote, even after queuing for hours. We have now sunk so low we cannot even organize an election properly.  This has never happened before.

The fact that Britain now has a hung parliament with no one party having a clear majority, means we will see in the coming weeks bitter haggling between the three parties as each vie for a share of power.

The major problem is, there is not a single party capable of running the country as it should be. Each successive government plunges our land deeper into crisis, none more so than Labour over the past thirteen years. Single-handedly, they have sabotaged our nation, and the opposition has done nothing to stop it.

They have given away the traditions and culture that made us proud and respected across the globe, and turned us into a pariah state, a melting pot of cultures, whilst at the same time driving us into debt by handing out money by the truckload to parasites and immigrants like confetti at a wedding.

Let me ask you a question: In what other country will you find an immigrant family living in a £2.6m mansion paid for by Social Services i.e. the taxpayer? I am sure you will not be able to give me an answer.

Another question: Name me any country where people can receive up to £30,000 a year for NOT working? Along with this of course goes a house, furniture, computers for the children etc., all paid for by the taxpayer. Again, I don’t think you will be able to give me a positive answer.

But all this is possible in Britain! Why?

The nation has been sold out in worship of continued power, and the voter is just as much to blame as the government, because Labour was voted back in time after time.

Now come the hard questions; What should we expect from the new coalition to get things back on track? A difficult one, with many facets.

I believe the first thing to do is ‘SHUT THE DOOR’ to all new immigrants! Secondly, we must SLASH the Social Services Budget so that only the really needy get help, and then at a minimum level to sustain them. Parasites (i.e. work-shy and those feigning disability) should have all their payments stopped and be forced to EARN their living and contribute to the system.

Steps must also be taken to get rid of the ‘Goody-Goody’ Brigade from their seats of power, which they have used to sabotage our traditions, culture and justice system for far too long.

Immigrants should be made to realise they live in OUR country and must conform to our laws and our way of life. This means no mosques, no veils, no arranged marriages, no Islāmic demonstrations and NO Sharia Law. If they cannot respect our way of life while practising thier own faith they should leave for a Muslim country.

Harsh measures must be taken to resolve the current disasters we call Justice, the NHS, and our Education systems. How do we do that? As follows!

First we need more prisons, secondly we need sentences that fit the crime without the opportunity of early release. We need prisoners to wear a penal uniform and perform hardlabour during their incarceration. We need the return of the death penalty for pre-meditated murder, and serial paedophiles and rapists should be castrated. Only by putting the fear of God into criminals will we ever stop the crime that rules our daily lives.

Our government must take the steps necessary to stop the spiralling cycle of violence, and to hell with the UN, Amnesty International and all the other ‘Goody-Goody’ Brigades. We can take another look at international conventions once we have things back under control.

So far as the NHS is concerned, it is time to kick out these useless self-serving administrators from our hospitals and go back to the ‘Matron’ system, where wards and nurses were controlled by senior nursing staff with a complete understanding of what is required. Kick out all the contract cleaning companies and have dedicated cleaning staff in every hospital as it used to be.

When this system was in place decades ago there was no such thing as patients catching life threatening diseases IN the hospital.

The education system also needs to return to the old standards of excellence, with major improvements in the standard of teaching, the national curriculum, and a much-needed return to classroom discipline.

The next question is, which of the parties is strong, and committed enough, to do this? The answer is; None!

The most important thing for politicians today is to stay in power, not do what is good for the country and its people.

Many analysts predict Europe is heading for financial meltdown with the economic crisis in Greece, the UK, Portugal and Spain. These same analysts are forecasting Britain will have a bigger budget deficit than Greece in the coming year, with all the problems associated with it. So it is clear that whichever coalition comes to power, they will have a monumental task ahead of them.

Will they be up to the task? I think not! We will return to the favourite British pastime of the blind leading the blind!

Roy.
