The Worst Year In History

2017 has become the worst year in history as we see storms and flooding all across the world. This sort of thing never happened when I was a child, but today we have contaminated the world atmosphere as never before, and this is to blame for the terrible weather we have experienced all across the globe. If we continue, things will get much worse.

170824-noaa-texas-gulf-storm-harvey-njs-1105a_cfe6824a843278e082782d095a130cf9.nbcnews-fp-1200-800The United States has never seen such terrible flooding and wild fires in the south of the country. The flooding in Texas was solely due to the massive hurricane and rainfall that came with it and lasted for a week. This phenomenon was caused solely by the way mankind has contaminated the atmosphere. In other parts of the country wildfires have been destroying forests as never before, all due to the lack of rainfall, again due to mankind.

imagesBut this has not been happening only in the USA, for other countries like Bangladesh has suffered severe flooding that has driven tens of thousands of people out of their homes. We have seen much the same thing in the Far East where people are suffering.

images (1)In Africa a million people are starving due to the weather because they can no longer grow crops. Temperatures have reached more that 50 degrees in some parts of the world, and if you think this is going to stop, then you had better think again.

This phenomenon is due solely to mankind and the way we treat our planet. Atmospheric contamination is reaching levels that the world has not been able to handle, and for sure we humans will suffer in the long term.

images (2)We have become so concentrated on ourselves that we do not care what damage we are doing to our planet. It is time for us to think of the damage we are doing to this Earth. Governments must take action as quickly as possible to stop the pollution of our atmosphere, and that means drastically reducing the the number of vehicles on our roads world-wide, and taking action against factories that pollute the atmosphere.

SeaNet-World-Map-Great-Oceanic-Garbage-Patches-10-Year-PlanSomething must be done to ban plastic on our planet for this is the number one environment polluter. We already see major contamination of our oceans with plastic all across the world. Another thing that should be banned is the poisonous chemicals that farms use to grow crops, for this is eventually polluting our oceans.

I am nearly 75 and I will not be around for many years to come, but all this contamination will affect our children and theirs. Every person on the planet must think of the future, and what we are leaving for our children. It is clear that if we continue as we are they will suffer many hardships and many will die young.

images (4)Sad to say. the governments of the world are not taking any positive measures to reign in climate change, but as the world progresses they will will forced to in years to come. This will be most unpopular with the masses, but it must be done if the human race is to survive on Earth.

A Catastrophe Is On The Way

Posted in America, Britain, Environment, Government, Health, Modern World, News, Oceans, Plastic Rubbish, Spain with tags , , , , on 18/07/2017 by floroy1942

I read with surprise today that Brazil is to open up 860,000 acres of the Amazon tropical rain forest for logging, farming and mining. If this continues the human race will be in big trouble for we rely on trees to give our atmosphere oxygen. They soak up the carbon dioxide (CO2) in our atmosphere and convert it to oxygen among other things.

“Urban forests help to improve our air quality. Heat from the earth is trapped in the atmosphere due to high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other heat-trapping gases that prohibit it from releasing the heat into space. This creates a phenomenon known today as the “greenhouse effect.” Therefore, trees help by removing CO2 from the atmosphere during photosynthesis to form carbohydrates that are used in plant structure/function and return oxygen back into the atmosphere as a byproduct. Roughly half of the greenhouse effect is caused by CO2. Therefore, trees act as carbon sinks, alleviating the greenhouse effect.”

I guess it is no surprise that profit comes before the continuance of mankind on this planet. Already the Amazon rainforest has been cut by nearly a third thanks to illegal logging, cattle farming and agriculture, and it seems it will get worse. So few people seem to realize that we rely on trees to provide us with a breathable atmosphere.

In the last fifty years forests across the world have been decimated to produce more agricultural land, and it would seem that it is not over yet. Why do governments not understand that we need trees to provide us with breathable air? If this keeps up and huge forests such as the Amazon disappear and we will have no oxygen to keep us alive.

The problem is we are so ignorant of the basic facts of life that we only think of money and profit. This will surely lead us to the destruction of our planet and the end of human life on Earth.

When I was young we had woods and forests all across Britain, but now most of them have disappeared as farmers cut down the trees just to get a little more land on which to plant crops. It’s the same all over the world, with huge forests disappearing at a steady rate. Many of the forests across the world have been decimated to make way for agriculture.

It is time the human race woke up to the fact that without trees life will end on this planet of ours.

Already this year we have had temperatures so high and that has never happened before. Here in Spain we have had temperatures in the high forties. In the Middle East temperatures are reaching close to fifty degrees, again, never seen before. You can bet your life that temperatures will continue to rise year on year and it is all the fault of mankind.

Drought areas in America and other countries make it impossible to grow crops to feed us. Flooding in many parts of the world have caused chaos with people losing their lives and homes being destroyed. This cannot go on.

Say what you will, but we humans are to blame for this sorry mess, and if we continue to ignore the warnings it will be too late to correct the current problems.

Most of the contamination in our atmosphere comes from the traffic on our roads which are poisoning the atmosphere. It is time for world-wide governments to greatly reduce the number of cars on the roads and to make them cleaner. If they do not do this it could be the end of mankind on this planet.

Another great contributor to oxygen is the oceans, and we have successfully contaminated them with plastic. Massive areas of the world seas have seen the rise of plastic around the world and this is another contamination that is slowly destroying our world.

If mankind is to continue its existence on the planet we have to do something to clean up our world. Otherwise, in maybe a hundred years humans will cease to exist.

Do You Believe In Climate Change

Posted in America, Australia, Britain, Conservation, Environment, Europe, Health, News, Oceans, Toxic Waste with tags , , , , on 06/04/2017 by floroy1942

Right Or Wrong?

Climate change is a touchy subject these days and many people do not believe in it. But the facts speak for themselves when you consider the massive flooding of countries like Peru, Australia and New Zealand, India and Bangladesh among others. Also we have drastic droughts and storms over different parts of the world. These things were unheard of in the past.

The weather patterns of the world have changed drastically over the past thirty years with drought, floods, massive hurricanes and typhoons, and a rising sea level. Some deny that these problems are manmade and are just a natural cycle in our world. The truth is that it is all manmade, caused by the heavy pollution we are sending into the atmosphere.

It would be difficult to ignore the facts when you consider such disasters with so many people killed and the loss of their homes. To me the facts cannot be denied for we are heading into the worst disasters of our world.

The big question is why? Is it a natural cycle or due to mankind’s ignorance to the state of our world. The toxic levels of our atmosphere are steadily rising due to our careless attitude to the climate, and as we go on the situation will only get worse.

Since the turn of the twentieth century we have been steadily increasing the contamination of the world’s atmosphere. It is said that last year we exceeded the possibility of the Earth to regenerate the atmosphere by August, and for the rest of the year  we added more and more contamination with the Earth unable to handle it. Even our oceans are being contaminated at an alarming rate through various means. So from this you can conclude that the planet and the atmosphere is getting worse year on year. When is it likely to stop?

Mankind is heading for extinction if we keep this up and in perhaps a hundred years we will cease to exist, because we have poisoned our atmosphere to the extent where all life on the planet will cease to exist.

I know that many people will consider this to be a load of rubbish, but you have to consider the condition of our world today, and imagine what it will be like in a tens of  years time if we continue living as we do.

The biggest contaminators of our atmosphere are vehicles and factories that push out toxic fumes daily. With over a billion vehicles on the planet and an untold number of factories the situation will get worse year on year. Some countries may see in twenty of thirty years time people walking around with gas masks, for already in China people wear face masks to stop the pollution from entering their lungs. This will soon spread to the west in some cities if we do nothing.

Already places like London, Paris, and in particular cities in the Middle East are suffering from heavy pollution and you can bet your life it will spread. The sad thing is, mankind seems oblivious to the spread of air contamination, and you can bet your life it will come and bite us in the backside.

At the moment people are living up to their eighties, nineties and beyond but that will soon change as the pollution of our atmosphere extends. You can make all the excuses you like but it will not change things unless we do something about it. There are so many people who believe that climate change is a myth, but in time they will see the truth as we are forced into taking measures to protect our health. It is not too late to do something about it but in ten or twenty years time it will be.

Governments have to start drastically reducing the number of cars in the world, and ban diesel which is the worst polluter. Factories must start using fuel that does not contaminate the atmosphere so much, but first people must be aware of the danger they are in for this to work. We all rely on governments to do the right thing, but sadly this is not the case for corrupt politicians are everywhere and their one aim in life is to be as rich as possible.

It is time for the world to made aware of the danger we are in and for the people to do something about it.

Where Is Our World Heading?

Posted in America, Britain, European Union, Islamic State, Muslim, News, Nuclear Weapons, Politics, Security Council, United Nations with tags , , , , on 09/11/2016 by floroy1942

Not since the Second World War have there been so many problems in our world as today. It makes me wonder what our future holds for us. On every continent there is trouble and strife, unbounded crime, often violent demonstrations by the public, and in many cases war.

What does the future hold for the human race? Are we headed for complete annihilation in a few decades? The steadily rising tensions between the United States and Russia are an indication that we could be headed for a nuclear war if someone doesn’t do something to cool down relations between the two countries.

This has all been brought about by the rising tensions over the battles raging in Syria because the Russians back Assad, while the West considers him a criminal.

The ISIS insurgency is causing major problems all across the world from the Far East to Western shores and currently there is no end solution. As I have often said, if the U.N. were to put together an international force to wipe out ISIS and all other Muslim insurgents wherever they appear we could return to peace, but they just don’t seem interested. So consequently we have many nations fighting this terrorist organisation and they cannot all agree on the way forward. This is causing tensions among many governments and has led to major disagreements between Russia and the western nations.

Also there is the rising tensions between China and many Far Eastern countries over control of the East and South China Seas, which China claims for itself. They have no right to do this, and many countries including Japan, are fighting against it.

On top of this we have the governments of many lands at loggerheads with the population in many parts of the world where people want a change of leadership. This is evident in places like South Africa, Venezuela, Libya, Yemen, Japan and even Singapore among many others. Unrest is spreading across the globe as more and more people are dissatisfied with their government. The world has never seen as many problems as we have now.

The big problem for mankind is, where will it all end? If Russia and the West cannot solve their problems we could see a nuclear war breaking out, and that would mean the end of life on this planet. The leaders of the world need to come together to work out plans for peace before we end up starting the Armageddon process from which there would be no turning back.

The United Nations (even the name is a farce for they are a long way from being united) needs to come together with no preconceived ideas, and talk to each other honestly and with sincerity if the human race is to survive.

All countries need to work together if we are to solve the tensions that exists between nations. On top of that, they need to discuss the many problems that face the world like famine, hunger, over population, climate change, and of course the threat of wars breaking out.

Ever since the United Nations stepped in to stop communists from taking over South Korea in 1950 it has done nothing but stand on the sidelines. There have been many high level discussions about problems in the world, but all have achieved nothing.

To my mind the United Nations has outgrown its usefulness for they seem incapable of solving any of the world’s problems. I have not heard yet of a top level meeting between the five nations of the Security Council to solve the ongoing problems between Russia and The West. You have to ask if they are capable of doing such a thing, for everyone is out for their own interests.

With the rising tensions across the world one would expect the U.N. to be in the forefront of attempts to make peace, but no, they just sit on their fat backsides and do nothing.

People in most countries not directly affected by these tensions go about their daily business without a care in the world, for they do not see the building of tensions among certain countries and what could ensue from this.

If mankind is to survive there has to be serious discussion and agreement on tackling the problems of the world, otherwise we are all lost. Lets hope that in the near future the people at the top will see the sense in this.

Why Is Everyone So Violent Today?

Posted in America, Britain, Child Discipline, England, European Union, Football, Justice, News, Parenting, Teen Violence with tags , , , , on 11/07/2016 by floroy1942

Apart from previous wars, the general public have never been as excessively violent as they are today. I wonder why? What is it that drives people at, for example, football matches to become so angry that we see running street battles and fans attacking each other or the police in the stadium? Something has changed in the psyche of many people today that I just fail to understand.

Fan Violence

Fan Violence

When I was young fans always respected each other, and just because their side lost didn’t mean that they would turn to violence against those who supported the winners. And yet today we hardly see a football match that doesn’t turn to fighting among fans, especially at international matches.

We have seen violent demonstrations in America where the blacks are having a go at the police because they feel that they are hard done by, and yes, I fully realize that there have been three killings of Black people in dubious circumstances in recent days. But instead of having a peaceful demonstration there is always someone who wants to turn it into a violent confrontation with the police.

We have seen the same thing in France, Germany and other European countries for a variety of reasons ranging from football to political differences. Today in Britain street violence, especially between teenagers particularly on a Friday and Saturday night in many towns and cities across the U.K., has risen out of all proportion, Why?

In my view it is because most parents do not have any control over their offspring anymore. When I was growing up my mother was always at home and always there when I needed her, but that is not true today. Most parents see their children for maybe two or three hours a day because they are both working. As a consequence, there is nobody at home to make sure the children are brought up properly, and by that I mean, being respectful of others and being honest. This makes them ‘loose cannons’ whenever they have to interact with others.

Young Murderer Kills Teacher

Young Murderer Kills Teacher

In Britain in particular we have children and teenagers who will murder an old person for the few pounds they have in their pocket, and you can’t deny this for it has happened time and again. In a previous post I relayed the news item that a young man had stolen the wallet from an accident victim who lay badly injured and then walked away and left him on the street. In my youth that would never have happened, for the person concerned would have done everything to help and not just stolen the money and walked away. Oh how times have changed!

To me it seems that we have entered an age where many people put themselves first and to hell with everyone else. Of course I do not mean those of us who still care and behave properly. Naturally I am not saying that everyone is like this, and not everyone would get into a fight because their team lost, but the numbers are growing with our youth and young people. In maybe ten years time I can see a period where complete anarchy reigns across many countries in the world, for it takes very little to get some people’s blood boiling and they take to violence.

Riots In Venezuela 2014

Riots In Venezuela 2014

The history of riots tells us that things have got much worse in the twentieth Century than they ever were before. For example, from 1900 until 1920 there were thirty riots across the entire world. From 2001 to 2010 there were 113 riots across the world, and from 2011 until now we have seen 288. It is good to remember that these are riots by the people and not just incidents at football stadiums, for many got killed during these confrontations.

Life Of Luxery

Life Of Luxury

Part of the problem is that the legal system in many countries is failing. I can only talk about Britain for that is my country, but the justice system is very weak in Britain because of the continued interference of the European Human Rights Council. It has weakened our laws to the extent that a stay in jail for a couple of years for murder is like staying at a holiday camp.

This is partly the reason why many do not fear going to jail for acts of murder, rape or just sheer brutality. In most cases those involved in street fights or at football matches couldn’t give a damn, for they know they will most likely be told in court not to misbehave anymore and are let off with a warning.

Whichever way you look at it, and whatever country you reside in, general violence is becoming more of a daily thing and it makes me wonder where it will all end.

WE WAS BRUNG UP PROPER !

Posted in America, Britain, British Humour, Canada, Children, England, Modern World, News, Senior Citizen, Teens with tags , , , , on 14/09/2015 by floroy1942

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THOSE WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1930’s 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos…They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer. Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.

1We had no child-proof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds, KFC, Subway or Nandos…
Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn’t open on a Sunday, somehow we didn’t starve to death!
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren’t overweight because……..WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
2We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.
We did not have PlayStation’s, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY no video/dvd films, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms……….WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no Lawsuits from these accidents.

Only girls had pierced ears!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time…

We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays,

We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
Mum didn’t have to go to work to help dad make ends meet because we didn’t need to keep up with the Jones’s!

3Not everyone made the rugby/football/cricket/netball team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on MERIT

Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and throw the blackboard rubber at us if they thought we weren’t concentrating .
We can string sentences together and spell and have proper conversations because of a good, solid three R’s education.
Our parents would tell us to ask a stranger to help us cross the road.
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of……..They actually sided with the law!

4Our parents didn’t invent stupid names for their kids like ‘Kiora’ and ‘Blade’ and ‘Ridge’ and ‘Vanilla’ and ‘Tiger’

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL !

And if YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.

My thanks to the anonymous writer and the friend who sent it to me through the e-mail.

‘Til next time.

The Hidden Menace In Today’s Society

Posted in America, Britain, Child Discipline, Children, England, Health, News, Parenting, Teens, UK with tags , , , , on 10/02/2014 by floroy1942

Disco’s, pubs, parties, we all enjoy a great night out don’t we? Its great to be able to listen to your favourite music while on the bus or in the car on the way home, and we all thank the guy who invented the mobile. Let’s face it, life without music would be pretty boring, right? It does not matter what your music taste is, we all need something to distract us from the worries and problems we face in the turbulent lives we lead today.

A Great Night Out But.....

A Great Night Out But…..

The young people of today love a night out at the local disco, and those a little older enjoy an evening at the local pub with perhaps a group playing in the lounge. It sounds like good fun, but therein lies a hidden menace. Ever had a ‘boom boom’ car pass you by on the street? Young people in the car with the music so loud you can hear the boom of the drum from half a kilometer away.

Ever since the rise of pop music, groups, D.J’s and disco’s seem to think that the only way to play music is at maximum volume. Let me put a question to you:- How many times have you been to a disco where the music is so loud you can’t hear yourself think? In some places the walls vibrate because it is so loud. The sad thing is, being young and carefree, no-one thinks of the problems they will experience later in life because of this addiction to loud music.

Too Loud?

Too Loud?

It has got to the stage today where loud has become so normal, that if someone passes you on the street listening to music on their mobile through ear pieces, you can hear it from two metres away. It has to be LOUD because that is what they are used to. While the senses may love it, one part of the body is literally cringing. By that of course I mean the ears.

It has been proven that as many as two thirds of people attending a disco, pub, party or gig have ringing in the ears when they leave. This is a danger sign. According to the survey carried out by the campaign group Action on Hearing Loss as many as a third of people ignore the safe listening levels on their music players.

Sounds Great, But Too Loud And You Will Be Sorry

Sounds Great, But Too Loud And You Will Be Sorry

Its surprising how long people listen to music these days. According to the survey, about a half of those polled listen to music from one to six hours a day. Several hours a day listening to music at high volume will mean only one thing eventually -Tinnitus.

Tinnitus can take many forms, beginning with a slight buzzing in the ears it can develop to an overwhelming cacophony of noise in your head that you can do nothing about. In some cases people have been driven to suicide after months of loud noises in their head. It can affect your concentration and even prevent sleep.

What is also amazing in this survey is that one in ten did not even know what tinnitus is, with 3% thinking it was ‘big ears’ and 4% said ‘a repetitive strain injury’. I can tell you that when you get it, you will certainly know what it is.

It Can Be Dangerous

It Can Be Dangerous

Sadly, it is impossible to educate people, especially teenagers, into the dangers of loud music because the resultant problems are too far away in the future for them to contemplate. It will only be when they get to middle-age or older that real tinnitus will manifest itself, and by then its too late. Another disturbing factor is a loss of hearing. Meaning in effect that you can become partially deaf as the damage to your ears accelerates.

Lightning Flight Line

Lightning Flight Line

I know all about this problem for I have had it. I spent a total of 37 years working on aircraft, and in my younger days didn’t worry if I forgot my ear defenders when entering the flight line. When necessary I just put my fingers in my ears, but the trouble is you cannot work like that. Walking or working on the flight line with jet engines running as aircraft maneuvered just a few feet away, or took off and landed was something I never worried about at the time. But I came regret my stupidity in later years.

Tinnitus Is Not Something You Want

Tinnitus Is Not Something You Want

When I got to my middle fifties I began getting a faint ringing in my ears that did not stop for many hours. A few years later it became like a flock of birds all twittering loudly at the same time. Now that I am retired I do not get it as often, but I am 60% deaf in my right ear and 25% on my left side. Mine was never a really bad case, but I drive my wife crazy sometimes when I ask, “What did you say?” I know people who have had it so bad they sometimes cannot sleep at night for the noise is loud and there 24/7.

You Could End Up With One Of These

You Could End Up With One Of These

We all think we can be stupid when we are young because old age is so far away, but when tinnitus strikes you certainly regret your youthful stupidity. Time perhaps for the younger generation to start thinking of taking ear plugs with them when they go to the disco, and to turn down the volume on the car radio and mobile. When all is said and done, it is up to the parents to guide their offspring in this area by making them aware of the dangers.
