The whole world is going crazy and it is the people that are to blame. When  will we become sane in this world and look after each other. There are millions of people who are starving to death and the countries do nothing about it. In Africa there are thousands of people who are dying of hunger.

We should be doing something to help these people, but apart from Aid Organisations there is little help. The Aid Organisations have little money and they can only help the few. Governments should be in the forefront of those helping to save the starving children and their parents. But we ignore them and do nothing.

The whole world needs to help these starving children and parents before they die in misery. Most countries have enough wealth to stop this, and they should do something about it. Give money to Aid Agencies to stop the starving children and parents.

There are battles across the world we have to stop this. We have the United Nations who will go in and put an end to tragedy in many countries, but the U.N. will never go into countries and stop the war.

Its about time the U.N. put an end to fighting around the world. This what is what the U.N. about, stopping fighting in various countries, but they do nothing except ‘chat chat chat’. In Syria, and many other countries there is still fighting going on and the U.N. does nothing about it.

In the Far East there are battles raging, and the government does nothing about it. What is it that the governments ignore these terrorists who are trying to take over the country. If they do they will be as hard as nails and take down the government, and then we will see the people fleeing to other countries. This whole world is a mess and we cannot do anything about it without the cooperation of governments and U.N.

Where Are We Headed?

Posted in America, Britain, Conservation, Environment, European Union, Human Rights, Islamic State, News, Politics, Terrorism with tags , , , , on 07/01/2017 by floroy1942

Its the beginning of a new year, and if you think about it you have to wonder where the world is headed. 2016 was not a good year for many people across the globe, although we in the West have not suffered quite so much. Other parts of the world have seen a great deal of suffering with wars, terrorism, hunger and catastrophic bad weather. So what makes you think that 2017 will be any better.

Malaga City

Malaga City

Already western nations have seen the worst weather in decades, with floods, heavy snowfall and drought that have taken their toll on the people. Only a couple of months ago in Spain where I live, we saw massive flooding on the Costa Del Sol that is totally unheard of. Many areas of Europe and America have seen catastrophic drought and flooding, but in other parts of the world they have suffered even more.

One of the major topics during 2016 has of course been terrorist activity in many lands, including Europe. The sad thing is, it is a long way from being over. Almost every day there is a new outbreak of violence in country after country, the latest being Ivory Coast.

Beijing Smog

Beijing Smog

Another major problem is pollution in many areas of the world. You only have to look at the news and see the pollution in cities like Beijing in China among others, and it has recently been reported that the pollution in London is already over the limit, and we are only seven days into the new year. So you must ask, where is the world headed?

Unless humanity starts taking some firm measures to stop these things from happening it will end in complete chaos for mankind. It seems that no-one is taking any firm measures to combat these problems, not the United Nations or governments across the world.

On the question of terrorism and Islamic State the whole world should unite and put these people out of business, next they should do something about combating the pollution that is choking the world. Unless the governments of the world come together and do something about these problems there is no future for mankind on the planet.

ISIS Killing Children

ISIS Killing Children

If the nations of the world do make a united effort to put an end to the Muslim uprising, and all the other terrorist organizations, the world could return to peace. If they would agree on laws for example limiting one car to every family we could rapidly reduce the number of vehicles on the road from the more than a billion vehicles that are causing all this pollution. They should also make a concerted effort to help the poorer nations by giving them food to save those dying of hunger and helping poorer nations to care for their people.

The world is currently divided into rich nations and poor nations, but no-one is doing anything to even out the balance. Power is the cornerstone of modern living, and many people will do whatever it takes to maintain their postion in the world. They do not spare a single thought for the poorer nations, or the poor people of even their own country. Today its all about me, me, me!

All I can say is that if things do not change rapidly, mankind will will disappear into history within a few decades.

The Calais Farce

Posted in Benefits, Britain, David Cameron, England, Environment, European Union, Extradition, Immigrants, News, UK with tags , , , , on 05/09/2014 by floroy1942

It was reported a few days ago that a large number of illegals tried to storm their way onto a Britain bound cross-channel ferry in Calais northern France. Natacha Bouchart, Mayor of Calais even had the nerve to suggest that Britain must help to pay the €10m needed to control these people. She even threatened to shut down the port among other things if the town didn’t receive financial help from Britain.

Natacha Bouchart, Mayor of Calais

Natacha Bouchart, Mayor of Calais

Bouchart criticised British immigration policy as creating an “Eldorado” that immigrants wanted to reach via France. I certainly have to agree with the Eldorado bit, and we can thank Tony Blair and the previous Labour government for that.

According to the local police there are now between 1,200 and 1,300 migrants in Calais, mostly from east Africa. There have been a number of confrontations around the port in August.

But her demands seem a little odd to me, for if they are on French soil then surely it is a French problem.

Migrant Riot In Calais

Migrant Riot In Calais

For years the French government has done little to dissuade immigrants moving across France for they are only a temporary hindrance. The reason is they all want to get to Britain and sample the free handouts they receive once here.

When the port of Calais is overrun with these people it has nothing whatsoever to do with Britain, it is a French problem. In effect, the French are making the immigration problem worse by not taking enough of the right action, just because these people are transients.

Caught Hiding In A Truck

Caught Hiding In A Truck

It is true that this is a problem for the Calais authorities, but sending around 7,000 back to where they came from is not enough, for they should be sending them all back where they started, then the flow will stop because these people will realize they are not getting to Britain via Calais.

None of the worst hit European countries want more immigrants, for most have too many already, but so far as the U.K. is concerned, Calais and the French authorities are aiding and abetting these people by allowing them to stay there. These immigrants are causing a lot of problems for the town , but then it is up to the French government to take the necessary measures. Britain cannot send them back because they are still on French soil.

African Drought

African Drought

I believe this is but the tip of the iceberg, for as climate change tightens its grip on our world, in ten or fifteen years Europe will be flooded with people fleeing the death and starvation in Africa. Not only that, but if the turmoil continues in the Middle East there will be even more refugees to cope with.

I am well aware that most people scoff at the idea of climate change, but the tracts of land in places like Africa that can no longer sustain human life are getting bigger year on year. Then you need to ask yourself, where will all those people go – you got it, the land of milk and honey – Europe.

Europe is only so big, and the land can only sustain a given number of people, once we cross that threshold all hell will break loose. Is this what we want for our children?

The Pensioner Parasites Of Britain

Posted in Benefits, Britain, England, Equality, Health, Human Rights, News, Old Age Pensioner, Spain, UK with tags , , , , on 17/11/2013 by floroy1942

There are times when I am ashamed of my fellow countrymen, and a report out this week has highlighted well-off pensioners who are raking in the money at the expense of their counterparts who are dying of cold every winter in the UK.

cartoonI refer to those pensioners who have enough money to spend the cold winter months in sunny Spain and the South of France, and still insist on claiming their UK heating allowance.

I am sure most, if not all, know that many old folks back home often have to choose between eating and staying warm, and every winter there are those poor souls who die from either the lack of proper nutrition or the cold. Sadly, these greedy individuals are not moved one iota by this fact, and continue to claim their allowance “because they are entitled to it”.

Winter On The Costa - Not An Overcoat To Be Seen

Winter On The Costa – Not An Overcoat To Be Seen

Many thousands spend most of the winter here on the Costa del Sol where the daytime temperature rarely drops below 14 degrees, unlike the UK, for there much of the winter it is almost always below five degrees and very often in the minus, especially at night. It is a sad fact that many UK old folks die alone in their homes in winter because they have not been able to keep warm.

The government did what it could to help by providing the Heating Allowance for pensioners, but unfortunately they did not add proper limits so that only the poor and needy were entitled. According to the government webpage on heating allowance you are entitled if:

  • you were born on or before 5 January 1952 (for winter 2013 to 2014 – this date changes every year)

  • you normally live in the UK throughout the week of 16 to 22 September 2013

You may still be able to get the payment if you live in another European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland and you have a genuine link with the UK.

You usually get a Winter Fuel Payment automatically if you get the State Pension or another social security benefit (not Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction or Child Benefit).

The Benefit Of Heating Allowance

The Benefit Of Heating Allowance

I could claim this allowance because I live in a European country, am over sixty-five and have a genuine link to the UK, but I don’t because my conscience would not allow me too. Why is there a clause in the rules that allows people not living in the UK to receive such an allowance? This rule should be scrapped.

In my opinion, anyone spending the winter outside the UK, and certainly with an apartment or villa in Spain or the South of France, has no need of such payments. But unfortunately, people these days are greedy and think only of themselves and don’t give a hoot for anyone else.

Most people see it as a free handout from the government that they gladly accept and do not care that the really needy old folk die from cold. Perhaps these parasites should be given a guided tour of these poor people and see first hand their living conditions and feel for themselves the cold days and nights.

Cold, Hungry And Alone

Cold, Hungry And Alone

It is also a sad fact these days that many people do not think about taking proper care of the parents who gave them life, and leave them to die alone in the old family home. Some pensioners are lucky if their children visit briefly even once a year, others may get a visit once a month, but in most cases it is more important to have the family holiday in Mallorca  than to ensure the parents have a warm home to live in throughout the winter.

Winter Home On The Costa

Winter Home On The Costa

According to the report, a total of £21 million was handed out to pensioners who spend the winter in the warmer climes of Europe. Of this amount, £9 million went to pensioners basking in the sun in Spain, and another £5.1 million went to those living in France. Pensioners seeing through the winter as far away as Greece received in total £351,000 in heating payments.

According to the official figures, 119,587 pensioners living in the European Economic Area received payments in 2012-2013, a rise of 60 per cent on 2011-2012. These figures do not include those pensioners spending the winter in the UK. A drastic rise when you consider that in 2002 to 2003 only 8,090 people were paid this benefit. This coming winter may well see many more deaths among the old when you consider the major rises in energy prices passed on by the electricity and gas companies to the consumer.

If Attitudes Don't Change This Could Be You!

If Attitudes Don’t Change This Could Be You!

It is a terrible thing to sit in your own home and be unable to keep yourself warm in winter, and even more so to freeze to death. We are supposed to be a civilized people so how can we allow this to happen. Those who can afford to go abroad for the winter should have all payments stopped immediately. The millions that are saved would be enough to give all pensioners in the UK a warm house in which to see through winter without starving themselves to get it. That should be sufficient incentive for any government to change the rules.

Ending Aid To India – About Damn Time!

Posted in Britain, Children, David Cameron, England, Government Spending, UK with tags , , , on 10/11/2012 by floroy1942

I read yesterday with some joy that at last the UK government is to end financial aid to India. In my opinion, this should have happened soon after they began creating a nuclear arsenal and a space programme. I am well aware that children are dying of hunger in the poor areas of the country but pumping in millions of pounds over the last few decades seems to have done little to improve their plight.

The sad thing is, India has received an average of £272m a year from the UK over many years which was originally intended to help those in desperate need, but sad to say, most of it has disappeared in the wrong direction. Corruption is rife in the land, and there is no doubt that many people have become very rich by siphoning off much of the money into their own accounts.

India's Population Growth

India’s Population Growth

To its credit, India has made some progress in feeding the country’s poor but it’s not enough. The population has trebled since 1960 and currently stands at around 1.25b. As the second most populated country in the world after China it’s perhaps time the government started doing something to curb the rampant birthrate, for the current situation is getting them nowhere.

India's Nuclear Weapons

India’s Nuclear Weapons

It is a great shame that the Indian government find it more important to have a nuclear arsenal and a space programme, than use the money to feed their people, give them an education and a reasonable standard of living. From the latest report, India spends £70bn on its social welfare budget, compared with £2.2bn on defence and £780m on space exploration. These figures may seem to be in the right proportion but you have to ask, why does this country need a nuclear deterrent and a space programme? I understand their wanting to protect themselves from Pakistan which also has a nuclear arsenal, but there the same problem exists, people are starving while the government rattles its missiles. As for the space programme, that in my opinion is a waste of space – forgive the pun!

A Starving Child

In these times of hardship in the UK I have to applaud the actions of David Cameron and his Liberal partners in making this decision. The money can far better be used to help the people in dire need in our own country, rather than make a select few in India richer every year.

Aid will not stop completely for India, but the British government has finally decided that they should concentrate more on technical aid and not financial. The heartening fact about that is it is harder to siphon off technical knowledge and machinery than hard cash!

India is fast becoming one of the major powerhouses in the world alongside China, but in my opinion, a land as wealthy as India should look closer to home when deciding how to spend the nation’s wealth.

India’s Poor Starve While Grain Rots By the Roadside

Posted in Children, Environment, Government Spending, Health, Human Rights, United Nations with tags , , , , , , on 13/05/2012 by floroy1942

The Indian government is surely responsible for one of the biggest scandals of modern times. Many of its 1.2 billion people, in particular children under five, are starving to death while food for millions is rotting in open storage areas because the country has run out of storage space.

Left To Rot While People Starve

A new report out today indicates that for nearly a year millions of tons of grain have been left to rot in outdoor storage areas because there is no more proper covered storage space in the country. In just one dump the sacks are piled 15ft high and covering an area the size of a football field.

India’s Disgrace!

India has seen bumper crops for four of the past five years, and production is expected to top 253 million tons this year which means next year will probably see the same thing happening. Meanwhile, millions suffer from mal-nourishment because they have no food, and children under the age of five are dying of hunger.

Personally, I find this a national disgrace in a country that finds it necessary to have nuclear weapons, and has recently put a satellite in orbit while millions of its people starve. It seems that the divide between the have’s and have not’s in India has reached epic proportions and nobody gives a damn!

As Usual It’s All About Money

The government says they have no more space to store the bumper crops because all the warehousing facilities are full, but to me this is not an excuse. This grain could be given, or even sold to the poor at subsidised prices, but this is not done ‘for fiscal reasons’. In other words, distributing the excess grain to the starving means there is no profit in it. Food Minister K.V. Thomas was quoted as saying last thursday that the government was taking “all necessary steps” to increase its storage capacities. This will of course take time, and in the meanwhile people are starving!

Opposition parties and even some members of the government are criticising the situation as a scandal, and so they should. “It is unfortunate that while people are dying of hunger, food grain is rotting in the open. We are confronting a serious food crisis, and the government is indifferent to this colossal waste,” said Sharad Yadav, a key opposition leader.

Indian Prime Minister

The government had been warned of the lack of storage space by the Food Corporation of India, the state-run agency responsible for purchasing grain, but nothing has been done. According to sources, the government was reluctant to allow an increase in grain exports for fear of political protests at a time when the country had been suffering double-digit inflation of food prices for most of the last year, and economists say selling the grain at subsidised prices would expand the fiscal deficit.

Activists have a different view. Biraj Patnaik, an adviser to India’s Supreme Court on food policy issues said: “The rotting of food grain is tantamount to criminal neglect in a country which has one of the highest rates of child malnutrition globally and the largest proportion of hungry people”. He went further by saying, “the government’s refusal to distribute the grain to the poor, holding it back to rot ‘purely on fiscal grounds, is particularly distressing.’. In the meantime, villagers near the rotting stockpiles are scavenging what they can save from the huge mountains of rotten grain.

Saving What They Can

There are people all over the third world who are dying needlessly from lack of food, so instead of letting so much staple food like wheat rot why can’t the government donate it to the UNHCR for example, for I am sure they would find a good use for it and quite probably save many lives.

It is indeed a sad indictment of our times when a government would rather see food rot than distribute it to the starving in their own country because such an action would not generate a profit. God help us all!

Could We Be Heading For Another Great Depression?

Posted in America, Britain, Environment, Europe, UK, USA with tags , , , , , , on 06/04/2012 by floroy1942

Everyone is suffering from the economic crisis and money is tight as people economize wherever they can, but the worst thing is, in countries like Greece, Spain and many others, the end still seems a very long way off. Because so many people have suffered in the current crisis, it will be very unwelcome news to hear that we could be heading for a total meltdown of the world’s financial systems in twenty years time.

Our Exploding Population

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) predict that we could be heading for a global economic collapse by 2030. They give as reasons for this the exploding world population and our ravenous appetite for natural resources. When you think about it seriously, it does seem likely. Estimates of population growth for 2011 show that 135 million people were born and 57 million died, leaving a population increase of 78 million in a single year. Annually this adds up to a major addition to the number of people the Earth must sustain. Since 1800 the world population has grown by a factor of 700% and it should be obvious to everyone that this cannot continue.

The First and the Last For This Family

As you would expect, countries like China and India top the league for growth, and have already reached the stage where they cannot successfully support such numbers. This is leading to huge areas of desperate hunger and poor living standards among its citizens. India has not taken any measures to reduce population growth, but the problems in China were becoming so acute the government had to impose a restriction of one child per family in 1978. This policy is estimated to have stemmed the population growth by between 250 and 300 million births in the country up to the year 2000 and 400 million from 2000 to 2011.

There can be little doubt, that barring a global war or devastating disease decimating the human population at sometime in the future, we cannot under any circumstances continue in this fashion. The time will come when there are just too many people for the Earth to sustain. It seems inevitable that starving millions will begin migrating ‘en masse’ to the richer countries in search of the necessities of life, whether we want them to or not. You can see the prelude to this in the refugee camps in Africa where the starving are supported by western aid organizations.  Food will become an expensive commodity as the population numbers increase, and global food shortages will no doubt become the norm.

How Long Can We Sustain This

As you can expect, the growing of food will become harder as we work the soil to death in an effort to feed everyone, and this will add a further complication. Today, farmer’s already have to use tons of fertilizer for the soil to support our current food production. Even now the soil is dying because of over-production, for it no longer contains the natural elements that promote healthy plant growth. On top of all this there are signs of what may be coming in the form of drought. This year there are concerns about the lack of water in Spain and even Great Britain among others. So what does that tell us of the future? One thing is for sure, it’s not good news!

The Basics of Life Today

The second major point raised by the MIT researchers was our rampant consumption of the world’s natural resources. Our never-ending greed for more and more energy will eventually lead to disaster, but the sad thing is, no-one seems interested so long as it doesn’t affect them personally. We remain indifferent to the fact that there will come a time when, for example, the oil runs out. Our present way of life  is sustained by this precious commodity for it literally fuels our lives, so what do we do when the last well runs dry? One thing is certain, as stocks finally dwindle wars will be fought over the last drops, for remove the oil from our way of life and we are back in the Middle Ages! Just imagine life without it; no more cars, trucks, boats or ships, no more plastic, no more computers or man-made fibres for clothing and a million other things.

Tornado

Another major factor is global warming, for if current weather trends continue large areas of the globe will become uninhabitable, and again we will see mass migration to areas that are not ravaged by savage storms, hurricanes, cold, heat or floods. When large areas of the world are uninhabitable it will also mean large tracts of land that cannot be used for the growth of food, and so we come back full circle.

We Are ALL Greedy

Mankind has unfortunately reached a stage where we, as individuals, have become so self-centred and greedy that we have forgotten how fragile we are. Our very existence on this planet is solely dependent on how we treat our environment and the Earth’s resources, but sadly, it will take a disaster of earth-shattering proportions to wake us up to the fact. Most people will read this post and not give it a second thought because they think it will not affect them, but what of your children? Throughout the universe we are perhaps a young race, but we must make drastic changes to the way we live if we are ever to become an ancient one!

Billionaires Versus Poverty

Posted in Children, Health, Modern World with tags , , , , , , , on 12/03/2011 by floroy1942

The Forbes list of billionaires has just been released, and I cannot help but wonder if any of these people have a conscience. The list of billionaires country by country is getting longer every year, and the amount of wealth these few people have amassed is also growing at an alarming rate.

Carlos Slim-The World's Richest Man

Today, the world’s richest man is mexican telecom giant Carlos Slim with an estimated wealth of $74bn, an increase of 20.5% over the last year. Second place goes to Microsoft’s Bill Gates with $56bn with Warren Buffet of the Berkshire Hathaway Group coming in third with $50bn. I find it most distasteful that so much money can go to a single person when there are so many people starving in the world.

Let’s face it, for Carlos Slim, or any of them, to spend all their billions sensibly they would have to live at least two maybe three lifetimes and still would not use it all up. So if you have that much money, is it morally correct to amass such a fortune and do nothing with it but use it to get more?

Mexico Slum Area

Mexico too has a great many poor and deprived citizens, but if Mr. Slim would give $60 or $70bn it would go a long way in alleviating these problems, and he would still have more money than  he could spend in his lifetime. Certainly enough for the huge villas and a Ferrari for every day of the week.

I can only assume these people have only one real goal in life, and that is to make more money. The united wealth of the 790 confessed billionaires in the world ($2.6 trillion) could solve nearly all the hunger, sickness and poverty on earth, if they had more of a conscience. I could not be happy knowing that I had so much money and could not spend a great deal of it helping those who cannot help themselves, like the starving in Africa.

I fully realize that a billion dollars is not what it used to be, and it doesn’t buy as much, but $50-60-70bn. That’s a mountain of money in any currency.

Poverty In India

For example, India has millions of people living below the poverty line and yet, this country currently tops the world rankings for the number of billionaires at 23 with a combined wealth of $99bn. In all good conscience, I could not live with myself if I did nothing to spread my over-abundance of wealth with the needy.

Bill Gates-A Rich Philanthropist

From what I know, Bill Gates is the only one who is publicly making use of his money by helping those in dire need, a fact that moved him from 1st to 2nd place in the world rankings, and got him the James C Morgan Global Humanitarian Award in 2006. Since he retired as head of Microsoft he has used his accumulated wealth to provide technology that will help lift people out of poverty and I applaud him for it.

I have to wonder why more of these mega-rich people do not do the same. Its a shame more of them don’t have a feeling of guilt when they count their money. I know I would!
