Time For Reform In Our Prisons

I read with interest about the prison riot in HMP Birmingham England yesterday, and I was shocked that such a thing could still happen in our prisons. I have always thought that the British prison system is far too soft on those who commit crimes, especially murder and rape.

All The Comforts Of Home

All The Comforts Of Home

These days a killer will be sentenced to ten years and be released in three or four. Surely that is not a just sentence for someone who has murdered an innocent person. Not only that, but prisoners these days live in  better conditions than most of our poorer people. With a TV, Radio, disc player and many other luxuries in their cells, plus snooker tables and chess sets, all paid for by the taxpayer.  There can be little doubt that the ‘Do-Gooders’ in our society have turned prison into a holiday camp. Long gone are the days when you were locked in a cell with just the bare minimum like a bed, wash bowl and toilet. They are more like hotel rooms these days.

The riot in Birmingham lasted twelve hours and a significant amount of damage was done. Again, the taxpayer may well foot the bill for repairs. The trouble has been quoted as being the worst since the Strangeways jail riot in 1990. UK prisons chief Michael Spurr said there were “serious problems” in jails that would not be solved immediately. Justice Secretary Liz Truss said  the rioters would “face the full force of the law.” Now what did she mean by that? An extra three months added to their sentence? I cannot see much coming out of her statement to the Press.

The rioting was said to have involved up to 600 inmates with some severe damage to parts of the prison. Currently it is said that the company that runs the prison, G4S, will be made to foot the bill for repairs although I doubt that. A G4S spokesman said,  “Our teams have worked tirelessly throughout the night to assess the damage caused, start the process of clearing up and capture any evidence that could be used by West Midlands Police for any subsequent prosecutions.”

Mike Spurr

Mike Spurr

This is the third prison violence episode in six weeks following trouble at Lewes and Bedford, and the authorities are worried that it could spread to other prisons in the country. Michael Spurr, who is chief executive of the National Offender Management Service Agency, said overcrowding, reduced staffing and drugs had put pressure on prisons.

In my view the authorities should draft in many more wardens to keep control, and ensure that the prisons are so constructed that it will be impossible for inmates to gather in large numbers. When such an occurrence takes place there should be sufficient wardens to quell the violence, using water cannons and tear gas if necessary. Prisoners need to have all their ‘goodies’ taken away so that they really know the meaning of punishment.

An Easy Time In Prison

An Easy Time In Prison

To allow a murderer or child rapist out of prison within three or four years should be done away with and they should serve a very long time in prison under a harsh regime. Today, killers etc. think nothing of it if they are caught, because they know they will be out in just a few years, and on top of that, have an easy time in prison.

There can be little doubt that the Justice System in Britain has gone soft on criminals, and for that we are all paying the price.

Should Britain Leave The European Union?

How Things Have Changed

How Things Have Changed

Much has been said and written on this topic, but eventually everyone must make up their own minds when the subject is put to a vote in 2017. To be honest, I cannot think of a reason for waiting until that date, for it could just as well be done next year, but there again, I am not a politician (thank goodness).

There have been many arguments passed back and forth supporting both sides of the vote, and it is clear that David Cameron is in favour of staying in.

Thanks TONY!

Thanks TONY!

I too can imagine us staying in but on two conditions, (1) that we get rid of the yoke of the Human Rights Charter, and (2) that we decide who we let into the country and not Brussels. Given agreement on these two issues I think it would be beneficial for the country to stay in the E.U.

However, is that likely to happen? Not on yer life! So this means the only other choice left to us is to leave. For far too long the bureaucrats in Brussels have told us what we can and cannot do, and it has to stop.

Yea Right!

Yea Right!

Our Justice system, that has been exemplary for many centuries has become a farce, with murderers among others getting ridiculously short sentences, and we have seen the rise of the ‘Goody-Goody Brigade’ in Britain thanks to the Human Rights Charter, who think for example that even killers have more rights than the victim or the bereaved family. Hell, we cannot even deport immigrant career criminals for crying out loud!

On the other side of things they dictate to us how many immigrants we must let into the country until our benefits system, hospitals and housing are swamped. Meanwhile, our people are not getting the help they need because of this.

They Already Are!

They Already Are!

I certainly do not envy Cameron when it comes time to making the decision for it will be hard, but he must listen to the voice of the people, and it depends on how much they think of the choices open to us and what decisions they make.

Business in the U.K. is divided on the option of going it alone without the E.U., but from reports it is clear that many are changing their minds.

Argument And Counter-Argument

Argument And Counter-Argument

It was reported yesterday that over 1,000 businesses, and donors to the Conservative Party, now back leaving Europe. This comes on top of many high-profile M.P’s also backing the move. It is said that Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith and Chris Grayling, leader of the House of Commons, are most likely to quit rather than support continued membership.

In the beginning the idea of a unified Europe was a good idea, but like all good ideas, it has been taken to extremes where today you cannot even breathe without the E.U. agreeing. It has become too bureaucratic and too powerful for its own good.

Immigration Figures

Immigration Figures

The big question is, if Britain does decide to leave will other nations follow and we see the end of the European Union? That is without doubt a possibility.

Taking immigration as just one example, more and more countries are becoming dissatisfied with the E.U. stance on this subject. Not only Britain, but also Hungary, Macedonia, Italy, Greece and many other smaller nations are being pressured into taking more and more refugees, and the simple truth is, they don’t want to because they can’t!

Where They Come From

Where They Come From

Britain has been told by the E.U. in Brussels that it cannot block the entry of people from other E.U. nations, like Poland among others, who want to come here to work, including Romanian Gypsies. Currently we have over a million Polish working in Britain, and our streets are filled with gypsies begging on our streets. Our countryside is being overrun by ‘travellers’ who move onto any area of open ground, beg and steal from the local inhabitants and leave the land looking like a rubbish tip.

Polish Integrate And Work

Polish Integrate And Work

I applaud the fact that the Polish people come here to work for a living instead off living of our benefits, but the money they make here goes straight back to their families in Poland. And what about all the British people who cannot find a job because the country is overrun by foreign nationals. As for the gypsies, they are a curse wherever they go, but do not confuse them with the real Romanian people who are caring and hard-working.

Something Has To Change!

Something Has To Change!

If as a nation we are forced to accept tens of thousands more immigrants annually the whole structure of the country will collapse. Our unemployment figures are way too high and cannot be sustained, and the money poured into social welfare is rising steadily until it too will be unsustainable.

No-one Will Want To Leave Despite Government Action

No-one Will Want To Leave Despite Government Action

I find it totally unacceptable that immigrants who are granted asylum here are also given British passports, making them British citizens. When the wars in the Middle East and Africa are eventually quelled, none of these people will want to go back home and we will be stuck with them. The government should be issuing temporary visas to these people, not passports that allow them to stay indefinitely. Some immigrants interviewed during a TV report were asked if they would go back home once the trouble was ended, all replied with an emphatic NO!

Open Your EyesAll this will eventually mean the end of the United Kingdom as a Christian country, but can the politicians see it? Can they hell! I am just glad I will not be around to see the demise of this once great country.

At some time in the future this all has to stop, but it certainly won’t so long as we remain part of the E.U. under the current rules.

THIS Is Punishment? You Must Be Joking!

Posted in Britain, Conservative Party, England, European Union, Human Rights, Justice, News, Political Correctness, Prison, Riot with tags , , , , on 30/03/2015 by floroy1942

If you commit a crime you go to prison right? Prison is supposed to be a punishment for the criminal to ensure that he changes his ways and becomes a better citizen, right? Well, if you thought that you would be very wrong!

A news item released today has once again revealed that prisoners in our jails have a better life than you or I, and there is no such thing as punishment for crimes committed in this ‘enlightened’ age! The whole episode makes a mockery of British Justice.

It concerns a ‘drug lord’ who was sentenced to five years but is living the high life in prison with all the comforts of home, and many you would love to have. Jason Crocker, 36 was caught by the police selling drugs, and these are photographs of his cell that he took himself and posted on Facebook:

How on earth are prisoners living in the lap of luxury supposed to feel remorse for their actions and become reformed citizens? How on earth is living like this supposed to be a punishment?

The following are some of the public’s reactions to this article:

“How can this be allowed to happen? Surely the person(s) responsible for making these misery mongers lives comfortable in prison should disciplined and dismissed! It makes my blood boil… ”

“What the hell is the prison service up to? That governor should be sacked on the spot and someone with the balls to impose a proper regime installed. Everything in that cell that is non-regulation should be confiscated immediately as a starter.”

“What is the world coming to. this guy seems to be having a better life than me and I’ve never done a thing wrong in my life. its time the government stamped down on this and made prison what its supposed to be and that’s punishment not a life of Riley.”

“I can’t afford a games cube! I’ve never been in prison but it sounds wonderful!! Are we really allowing this to go on at the tax payers expense? He was a dirty drug dealer, destroying people’s lives for goodness knows how long & should not have anything other than a toilet in his cell. There is no deterrent in prison sentences. Make them work, bring back the harshest regime!”

I have to agree with all the sentiments above, but thanks to the Human Rights Laws from Brussels, and the ‘Goody-Goody Brigade’ here at home, we have reached a stage where there is no longer an incentive for criminals to ‘go straight’ when released.

If they get caught they receive a paltry sentence, even for murder, and then live a life of luxury behind bars at the Tax Payers expense. The only thing they miss is their freedom of movement. This is just not right, and it’s time we had a government willing and able to do something about it.

Send in the Riot Squad or Army and remove all the niceties from every cell and replace it with the standard bed and toilet, then lets see how they reform.

Prison guards should stop being ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ and be very strict, allowing only that which is necessary for living without all the comforts of home. Any guard who is caught allowing ‘contraband’ into the prison receives an automatic six months sentence and is fired from his job.

The Results Of A Prison Riot

The Results Of A Prison Riot

You can be sure there will be prison riots, but the moment trouble breaks out the Riot Squad or Army go in and sort it out. A few soldiers armed with batons and fire-hoses should be able to sort that out.

Prison Riot Squad

Prison Riot Squad

There can be little doubt that we need more prison guards who can watch the movements of prisoners at all times and quell trouble the moment it starts. A system of isolating a trouble spot in the prison is vital to stop it spreading to other wings. The answer to all prison riots is isolation and a quick response to prevent it spreading. Another essential is allowing only small groups of prisoners to move about the prison.

Work is another essential that is missing today, for it is far better to have prisoners working eight hours a day than lounging around playing snooker or watching TV. It is way past time that they made a contribution to society during their incarceration instead of living the kind of life many of us can only dream about.

Prisons Under Strain?

Posted in England, Human Rights, Justice, MP's, Parliament, Prison, Theft, UK with tags , , , , on 22/02/2010 by floroy1942

Who should be surprised the British Prison system is nearing collapse? The government feeds us statistics each year saying there is an annual drop in crime rates, but they do not tell the whole truth.

Modern Prison Cell

A little research shows the prison population in Britain has risen from around 19,000 to a staggering 65,000 in 1998. Since 1998, the government will have us believe things are getting better because fewer criminals are going to jail, but that is also untrue. What has in fact happened, as most people know, is that criminals are now being given non-custodial sentences because the prisons are over-full. More and more even violent criminals are being given the so-called Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBO’s) and /or Community Service Orders (CSO) simply because there is no room for them in the prisons.

Experience has shown that the ASBO/CSO system does not work because it is totally ignored by those who receive it, and no-one can be bothered to do anything about it. The Probation Service seems powerless to enforce Community Service Orders placed on felons and they just go back to their old ways.

When they are jailed, criminals are given ridiculously short sentences, and even then, let out early to make room for newer inmates. When someone commits murder they receive a ‘life’ sentence, but what is that, just seven years, and more often than not they are let out after four or five years. We hear daily from the courts that so-and-so has received a sentence of twenty-five years, but everyone knows this person will be back on the streets in three to five years.

A recent example of that was the young Edlington twins (see Blog UK Child Sadists Sentenced – 22  January) who tortured two young boys for ninety minutes. They were sentenced to be detained ‘Indefinitely’ serving a minimum of five years. It has since emerged these two sadists will be released within three years with a new identity. What has ‘indefinitely’ got to do with ‘minimum five years’? If the Judge understood the English language he should know ‘indefinitely’ means without end or for an unspecified period!

At the trial, the younger of the two (10 years old) was described as a potential psychopath by a prominent psychologist, and they want to let him out after three years? Who will take responsibility when the little tow-rag kills someone after his release? It sure as hell won’t be the idiots responsible for his early release.

The number of criminals who re-offend after release from prison is soaring, proving once again “its business as usual” for these people. The prison system is so lax that even being incarcerated does not stop their criminal activities for they continue their activities from their cell. Gang-Lords are still in charge of what goes on ‘on the outside’ knowing they will be free within a short time.

The people to blame for the slow destruction of Britain’s Penal System are without doubt the bleeding heart Politically Correct (PC) and Human Rights (HR) Groups who infest our land with their lunacy. I have been saying for years that it is time to kick out the barmy idiots that are currently running the system and turn it back into what it once was, a penal system to be feared.

Just ask any ‘old lag’ from the forties and fifties what it was like in prison in those days and they will tell you, more likely with a tremor in their voice.

In those days prison was a thing to be feared and no-one wanted to go back ‘inside’. The mere thought of going back into prison caused most criminals to think twice about re-embarking on a life of crime once they got out. Their day consisted of twelve hour shifts of hard work, a meal, and then into the cell for the night. There were no gym’s, pool tables, libraries, cinema’s, TV ‘s in the cells with all the comforts of home. It was a strict regime, and woe betide anyone who overstepped the mark. More to the point, the prison was run by the Governor and his Warders, not the prisoners like it is today.

1950’s Cell

But what is happening today? Well, I can tell you. A letter just released by the Lord Carlile of Berriew, President of the Howard League for Prison Reform goes in completely the opposite direction. The letter states; “Instead of more legislative hyperactivity in the field of criminal justice, instead of ramping up ever-higher our costly use of imprisonment, the Commission argued forcibly for a principal of moderation, and not excess, to hold sway”.

The Commission recommended (1) “A significant reduction in the prison population and the closure of establishments” (2) “Investment in the localities that currently produce prisoners to reduce crime” and (3) “The replacement of short prison sentences with community based responses”.

I have never heard a bigger load of twaddle in my entire life!

What this in effect means, is that we are now supposed to give criminals even less ‘punishment’ than they now receive, and not even remove them from our streets. It would seem these people want to reduce the prison overpopulation by releasing huge numbers of prisoners and closing down many prisons! I really find it impossible to grasp that a Lord of Our Land and his cohorts could come to such a recommendation in these crime ridden times. What planet do these people live on???? I have to say however, it is typical of the way the ‘people in charge’ think of crime these days. I wonder what these people would think if they were on the receiving end of a vicious thug who burgled their home or killed one of their loved ones?

Lord Carlile was big enough to admit that “people have lost faith in the system” and “do not feel safer” but does not seem to understand that his Commissions plans would make things ten times worse. They do not seem to grasp the idea that to reduce the criminal statistics and the prison population, we need to go back about 60 years and return prisons once more to a place of punishment instead of five star hotels.

I truly despaire at the stupidity of some people.

Roy.
