A New Year Is Coming

Our World

Tonight we celebrate the beginning of a new year, but what will it bring us? I don’t think there will be much change in the world as the wars will continue, and demonstrations will be as prevalent as this year. People are dissatisfied with their governments and the rules they are making so we will see demonstrations all across the world.

Governments will not change their plans to satisfy the people they rule, and there are many people in all countries who will not accept this. We are sure to find trouble in the new year as the demonstrations and wars continue unabated.

The whole world is a mess except in a few countries where the people put up with the plans the governments make. The war against ISIL and other rebel groups is far from over and the war will continue, but for how long? Some Muslims want to rule the world and it will not stop unless they wiped out.

The United Nations has done nothing to fight terrorism since the Korean War, and they should get involved by sending troops to wipe out these terror groups. It is the only way the world will get to be peaceful again. The trouble is they sit on there fat asses and do nothing. I had hoped that the new leader of the United Nations would at least do something against these terrorists, but he has done nothing.

What with the atmospheric pollution and the wars all over the globe, we are heading for major wars between nations and the end of mankind on this planet.

We have to do something about it or we will see total destruction of our home planet. Countries have to come together and sort out their differences before the whole world goes mad.

Unfortunately this is not likely to happen as there are too many differences between countries. There have been attempts at making peace in the past but these have all come to nothing, for there is still fighting between countries. Demonstrations have sprung up in the last twenty years or so because people are dissatisfied with the way the governments rule their countries. A prime example is Venezuela that is ruled by President Maduro. In this country he rules with an iron fist, and there are constant demonstrations against him. Its the same in other countries.

Another thing we that could cause the end of humanity on this planet is the pollution levels in our atmosphere. There are well over a million cars and lorries on our roads and each of these are causing the pollution to get worse. When will it end?

2

Pretty soon all of humanity will be going around wearing masks when they venture outside, just as in some Chinese and Middle East cities. The pollution levels are rising yearly with all the cars and lorries on our roads. We have to something about it!

It is expected that electric cars will replace petrol and diesel engines by 2040, but that may be too late. By then the pollution will have risen to such a state that the air will be full of poisonous gases, and people will get cancer and not be able to live a long life. The current generation does not think about the fate of our children and what they will face in the future. We have to start thinking about the future of humanity on this planet, and what the future of our children will be.

Land Clearing And Pollution

Posted in Brazil, Britain, Children, Environment, European Union, Health, Human Rights, Modern World, News, Pacific with tags , , , , on 12/12/2017 by floroy1942

All across the world trees are being cut down at a fantastic rate and it will never end. In the Amazon, and all across the world, the forests are being decimated as mankind ignores the fact that we rely on trees for oxygen to breathe. The oceans of the world also give us the essential oxygen, but they are so polluted that we can no longer rely on them.

Huge swathes of the Amazon have disappeared due to farmers wanting more land for their cattle, and to grow crops. In the Far East large areas of forest have disappeared completely for the purpose of getting more farming land. If this continues we will be starved of oxygen within decades.

We are polluting the atmosphere with more than a billion vehicles on our roads and and they increase year by year, and soon we will have no clean air left the breathe. When you look at the traffic jams around the world you see that most cars have only the driver and no-one else. Very few have more than one occupant. Perhaps we should introduce pick-up points where drivers can travel with someone else instead of all taking their own cars to work. It was tried many years ago but failed.

Electric vehicles are slowly being introduced, but will take tens of years to fulfil before we see all petrol and diesel vehicles disappear from our roads. But what of the supply of electricity? With millions of electric vehicles on our roads we will be hard pushed for power stations to supply enough energy, and what of the domestic supplies that are required to power our homes and gadgets. This will be another big problem for mankind.

We humans are slowly but surely destroying our world, but nobody seems to care except the scientists. They tell us we are heading for big trouble in our world but no-one takes any notice. We all go on with our daily lives and do not care what our children and their children will face in the coming years. Without a doubt they will face hard times as the pollution gets worse and worse.

We have to think of our children and what sort of life they will inherit, for if we do not, they will suffer greatly. Mankind must wake up to the dangers we are putting our lives into, and prevent the end of the world.

Is The World Going Mad!

203_co2-graph-021116For years now the the world has been getting worse, and this year the scientists have told us that the carbon dioxide contamination of the atmosphere is at its highest level in history. Of course no-one believes this and they go on polluting the world with their cars and factories.

If mankind is to survive on this planet some drastic measures will have to be taken. You might think that all this is bullshit, for we as individuals  are surviving quite well, but you have to think that the rate of cancer is rising rapidly among us humans, and its all due to the pollution levels in our atmosphere.

energy-coal-power-plant-smokestacks-with-tailingsWe are polluting the air and the seas as never before with our modern culture, and it has to stop otherwise we will cease to exist on this planet.

You have to think what will our planet be like in fifty or sixty years in the future? Will we still be here? By that time everybody may be going around wearing gas masks as they venture outside and the world population will dwindle to a few hundred thousand.

There are plans to ban all diesel and petrol vehicles in twenty years time, but will that save us all. There can be little doubt that urgent action is required if we are to survive on this Earth.

Even now there are millions of people in Africa who are dying from disease and starvation, and pretty soon there will be none left. The world is overpopulated to a great extent and we have to do something to stop this. For years China allowed only one child per family, but that ended a couple of years ago. Perhaps we should make this a world-wide law to cut down on the overpopulation.

We are destroying the world’s forests that provide us with oxygen and contaminating the seas as never before. Unless something is done to stop this I can see the end of mankind of this planet. We also have to drastically cut down the number of vehicles on our roads for they are poisoning the atmosphere to the extent of which has never been seen in our history.

Already people in cities in China go around around wearing masks that shield them from the vehicle pollution, and as it gets worse it will spread all across the world.

Nobody takes notice of the scientists predictions, and they go about their own lives as if it is all bullshit. But as time progresses they will see that they spoke the truth and it will hit us hard.

gw-images-extreme-weather-cars-covered-in-snowThere is no doubt that the population of the world must do something if we are to survive on the planet. Already the summer temperatures in very many countries have been much higher than in the past. Even in winter the snowfall is massive in some parts of the world, and temperatures are well below what they were in the 1950’s. We have so many hurricanes and typhoons that we have never seen before. Look at the damage that was caused in America by the five or six hurricanes that struck the coast. Huge floods devastated many of the American counties in the south, and it will take millions of dollars to repair this.

gw-impacts-hurricane-ike-damage-gilchrist-txAll the Caribbean Islands have had most of there houses destroyed and the people have no-where to live. This again will take millions of dollars to repair. But what of next year? Will the same thing happen next year and in the future all because of climate change. It saddens me to see so many people suffer when such a thing happens.

There can be little doubt that as we continue to poison our atmosphere, this type of thing will happen year on year and the weather will get worse. It’s OK to shrug it off and say nothing will happen to us, but the fact of the matter is, it will!

Mankind has to make some difficult decisions regarding how we live, for if not, we will see the end of humans on this planet at some time in the future.

It’s alright to say, but we will find other planets to live on, but how will we get to them, and what will life be like on these far off planets? No-one knows what life will be like on these planets for they are a great unknown. Will man be able to survive on them or will they die?

kepler-discoveryIf we do find another planet to live on how many will go there. It is for sure that the greater majority will be left behind to die on Earth. Just a small portion of human beings will travel to another planet, for there will be no way we can transport them all.

I am glad I am old and will never see much more of the future for mankind, for I think it will be very difficult.

Electric Cars – Not A Good Idea

Electric cars are coming to the forefront of the future, and what is to become of them? They seem to be a good idea in reducing the air pollution around the world, but is it a good idea? How on earth are we supposed to provide sufficient electricity for them.

We are already overloading our power stations with all the electronic gadgets we have, so how are we supposed to provide electricity for cars by the millions. We will need to build thousands of new power stations around the world to provide the necessary power. And what of the charging stations for these cars? They would need to be built by the million so people can get where they are going.

volkswagen-group-opts-for-charging-network-intercharge-chubject

To me this is not the answer, for a catastrophic building programme will need to be initialised to provide all the power that is required by these machines. This will cost billions for every country if it is initiated. Mind you, we could have charging systems in our own home, but imagine what that would cost in electricity bills.

I agree that such cars would cut down the pollution of the world’s atmosphere, and we could in maybe a hundred years get the atmosphere down to what it used to be and save our world from extinction.

Without a doubt, petrol, and especially diesel cars have been polluting the atmosphere like never before in our history. Cities and towns around the world have so much pollution from these vehicles that the general public are suffering. We have to do something about it, but I am afraid the electric car is not the solution. To have everyone driving around in an electric car, van or lorry would cripple the economy of every nation on earth.

The real solution would be to modify our current engines so they don’t contaminate the atmosphere. I think more work needs to be done to make our current engines less polluting. Doing away with diesel cars would be a big step forward, and by modifying our petrol engines so they don’t pollute the atmosphere would also be a big step forward.

France Leads The Way By Turning Out The Lights

Posted in America, Britain, Environment, Modern World, UK, USA with tags , , , , on 02/02/2013 by floroy1942
Shanghai At Night

Shanghai At Night

According to reports, France has taken a major step towards saving the planet without even realizing it. The French government have apparently just passed a law that forces shops and office blocks to turn out their lights at night, quoting “light pollution” and “electricity savings”.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas

The law states that all of these buildings must turn off all lights within one hour of the last person leaving, or by 01.00hrs every night and the projected savings in electricity are staggering. It has been calculated that this one measure will save sufficient energy to power 750,000 homes for an entire year! The actual figure is two terawatt/hours of electricity a year. When you consider the implications of this, it is an enormous saving of power at a time when demand is growing at an ever-increasing rate year on year.

World Energy Consumption On The Rise

World Energy Consumption On The Rise

As we have more and more gadgets in the house requiring this precious resource, plus of course the introduction of electric cars, the energy demands of today’s society will grow to such an extent that the power companies will be unable to fill demand in the future. This in effect, will necessitate a mass building programme of extra power stations which will need more of the Earth’s resources to feed them.

London

London

When you look at the night skyline of  all the major cities in the world they are a mass of light from glaring advertisements to whole skyscrapers lit from top to bottom. If you think about it, this is wasting power on an unprecedented scale the like of which is incomparable. We are using coal, natural gas and nuclear power to satisfy our increasing needs, and this is before millions of people ‘go green’ and buy an electric car to ‘save the planet’.

Power Guzzler!

Power Guzzler!

There are many people who are against nuclear power, but what they do not realize is that as demand increases we will need many more power stations to keep up with demand. If they are all gas or coal powered we will hasten the day when the whole planet will have the problem currently inflicted upon the people of Beijing, China. A poisoned atmosphere!

Sydney Australia

Sydney Australia

For this reason it is wise for us all to look at ways to reduce our power consumption, and the step that France has taken is the right way to go. It only remains to be seen how soon all countries follow this lead and impose the same law. When you think about it, I am sure you will see that it makes sense.

What Will We Do Without the Humble Bee?

Posted in America, Britain, Europe with tags , , , , , , , , on 10/04/2012 by floroy1942

Did you know that the honey bee is being poisoned out of existence? Have you any idea what could happen to the food chain if they cease to exist? Questions we need to ask ourselves, because they are disappearing fast, and science has finally found the cause.

Bees Are Essential

For a considerable time the number of bees in nature have been in decline and many people began to wonder why. They are extremely important to nature, and to us, because of what they do. Most people know that bees are responsible for passing pollen from one plant to another and therefore ‘pollinating’ them. That is to say they add the missing ingredient that enables a plant to reproduce, much like male sperm fertilizes a woman’s egg allowing us humans to reproduce. Without this action, many areas of our plant-life, including many basic food crops like wheat etc. will not be able to reproduce and thus die out.

As you would expect there are other means of pollination available for plants such as the wind, birds, other insects and animals, but none do it half as well as the humble bee. Pollination is also a selective process whereby pollen from an apple tree for example will not fertilize an orange tree and vice versa. This is also true of the many beautiful flowers we grow in our gardens and parks, but imagine the scene without the bee.

Spreading More Poison

At last science has come up with the answer after much exhaustive study, and surprise, surprise, they say the culprit is certain pesticides sprayed by farmers on crops to kill harmful insects. In several studies the scientists have laid the blame squarely on pesticides that contain neonicotinoid which attacks the nervous system of insects, eventually killing them. It makes up part of very many insecticide compounds available to farmers in today’s market.

Tests as long ago as 1990 raised questions about this product due to its ability to survive in plant-life for many years. At that time there was also concern about its impact on the bee population, for it was believed by some to account for worker bees’ neglecting to provide food for eggs and larvae, and for a breakdown of the bees’ navigational abilities, leading to what has now become generally known as Colony Collapse Disorder or CCD.

Another Pollinator

Because they were only ‘concerns’ back then nothing was done about preventing their use and now they are used everywhere. In the United States alone some 143 million acres are sprayed with this product and who knows how many in Europe. In Slovenia its use was banned in 2003 due to ever increasing cases of CCD. Perhaps it is time for the rest of the world to do the same before it is too late!

However that is not as simple as it seems, because governments will have to fight the big corporations like Bayer and others who manufacture the stuff. Already they have started a campaign against the scientific findings by sowing seeds of doubt on the results in an effort to delay legislation as long as possible.

Do We Have To Say Goodbye To Such Beauty?

Any government that takes on these big multinational corporations will find it a hard fight for the companies affected have huge amounts of capital invested in their products. They don’t give a damn about the bee, or the effects of its population decline on food production, because all they can think of is profit! But they should realize that in the long term, they will be just as affected as the rest of us, but what the hell, that’s a long way into the future!

Going Green – The Way Back

Posted in Atlantic, Britain, England, Environment, Europe, Illegal Dumping, Insanity, Modern World, Oceans, Old Age Pensioner, Pacific, Plastic, Plastic Rubbish, Senior Citizen, UK, USA with tags , , , , on 25/07/2011 by floroy1942

It is a fact that many people think the older generations did nothing to look after the planet on which we live because we were not ‘eco’ friendly. I am here to tell those people how wrong they are. I received a very interesting e-mail from my brother over the weekend all about being ‘green’.

It is a fact that we seniors did not have separate waste bins for plastic, glass etc and we did not run our cars on biofuels, but did that make us less ‘eco’ friendly? I think not as the following will amply demonstrate.

In the line at the store, the cashier told an older woman that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment.

The Weekly Shopping

The woman apologized to him and explained, “We didn’t have the green thing back in my day.”
The clerk responded, “That’s our problem today.  Your generation did not care enough to save our environment.”

She was right — our generation didn’t have the green thing in its day.

The Glass Milk Bottle-Reusable

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over.  So they really were recycled.

But we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

Stairs - Remember Them?

We walked up stairs, because we didn’t have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.

But she was right. We didn’t have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby’s diapers because we didn’t have the throw-away kind.  We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts — wind and solar power really did dry the clothes.  Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.

But that old lady is right; we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

Just One Per Home

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house — not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana.

In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn’t have electric machines to do everything for us.

Why Not Old Newspaper?

When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.
Back then, we didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power.  We exercised by working so we didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.

But she’s right; we didn’t have the green thing back then.

Free Water For Anyone Thirsty And No Plastic

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water.
We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.

But we didn’t have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service.

The Modern Mixer - Is It Really Essential?

We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances.  And we didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

But isn’t it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn’t have the green thing back then? ”

(My sincere thanks to the anonymous writer of this piece)

So you see, things were in many ways much better then than they are now. Consequently, I don’t think members of today’s generation have the right to say us old folks are to blame for today’s eco-problems, because actually, they have done it to themselves.

Admittedly, it was not because we thought about the environment as such, but more the fact that we just did not have all the things people have today. Technology has taken huge strides since the 40’s and 50’s, and we have to look there, and at ourselves, for the problems with our environment today. Many of the technological advances that have been made serve only to make us more lazy and increase the level of unemployment, so is that a good thing, do we really need these things?

Our Planets Floating Garbage Islands

There are many we could well do without, like escalators and powered grass mowers just to use two examples from the above piece. We could perhaps reduce the amount of plastic each of us uses in our daily lives, like supermarket carrier bags, plastic cups and bottles. After all, what is wrong with paper bags and glass bottles  that can be reused?

So you see, the current generation is more to blame for the state of our world than the old folks. Next time you buy an electric apparatus take a moment to think; Do I really need this?

It would seem the only way forward for us to be totally in tune with our world, is to take a few steps back and live like we used to.
