A very enlightening ditty that came my way that will remind many of the good old days.
I remember the cheese of my childhood,
And the bread that we cut with a knife,
When the children helped with the housework,
And the men went to work not the wife.
The cheese never needed a fridge,
And the bread was so crusty and hot
The children were seldom unhappy
And the wife was content with her lot.
I remember the milk from the bottle,
With the yummy cream on the top,
Our dinner came hot from the oven,
And not from the fridge in the shop.
The kids were a lot more contented,
They didn’t need money for kicks,
Just a game with their mates in the road,
And sometimes the Saturday flicks.
I remember the shop on the corner,
Where a pen’orth of sweets was sold
Do you think I’m a bit too nostalgic?
Or is it…I’m just getting old?
I remember the ‘loo’ was the lav
And the bogey man came in the night,
It wasn’t the least bit funny
Going “out back” with no light.
The interesting items we perused
From the newspapers cut into squares,
And hung on a peg in the loo,
It took little to keep us amused.
The clothes were boiled in the copper
With plenty of rich foamy suds
But the ironing seemed never ending
As Mum pressed everyone’s ‘duds’.
I remember the slap on my backside,
And the taste of soap if I swore
Anorexia and diets weren’t heard of
And we hadn’t much choice what we wore.
Do you think that bruised our ego?
Or our initiative was destroyed?
We ate what was put on the table
And I think life was better enjoyed.
Hi, and welcome!
I can hardly believe this blog is now more than five years old, for it seems like only yesterday when I took my first hesitant steps. A lot has happened in that time, and I must say it has been a great pleasure to write about, and discuss with visitors all the momentous happenings around the world.
Whether you are a frequent visitor, or someone who just dropped by, I hope you will come back, for you are always welcome.
Now that I am a 'Gentleman of Leisure' I have time to indulge in my hobby of writing short stories. I do it for my own pleasure and not for accolades. Although I recently had offers to publish some of them, I found the cost of publication far too much and unfortunately had to decline.

We see all over the world fighting going on and it will not stop. When I was young the world was at peace, except for the Russians and they did not do anything except make threats. The world was a peace in the sixties, but today the world has moved on and war is everywhere. […]
The whole world is going crazy and it is the people that are to blame. When will we become sane in this world and look after each other. There are millions of people who are starving to death and the countries do nothing about it. In Africa there are thousands of people who are dying […]
Everywhere except Europe is in a mess! Once the world was a peaceful place, and today it is a controversy of war and demonstrations. There are battles going over the whole world and we must put a stop to it. In South America there are demonstrations in most countries and they are not giving up. […]
Why are so many people bent on killing other people? In England the situation is getting worse as more murders are carried out. Why? Years ago Britain lived in peace and there were hardly any murders, and those that were caught were hanged. We have to get back to this. Most of the murderers are […]
Wars are happening all through Africa, Syria and the Far East and it is mostly to do with terrorists. How are going to stop them? The United Nations should step in and end it all so that the world can return to peace. But they do nothing about it except discuss the terrorists. During the […]
Immigrants Who Demonstrate Europe is being flooded with migrants over the past few years, and it doesn’t stop. There are many migrants that are looking for a job in Europe, but many are […]
All over the world the temperatures are getting hotter, and the there seems no end to it. In Europe the weather is climbing, and it will rise in August. When winter comes there will be cold and snow everywhere and the we will be up to our eyeballs in snow. The weather is changing and […]
This world is getting worse by the minute, and we see whole countries in turmoil. The people are protesting against the government for their rights. Such is the world today, country after country riot against the government, but they do not care about the people. They pass laws that have nothing to do with the people […]
Its getting hotter and hotter this year and it won’t end until winter comes, and who knows what the winter will bring. In the Middle East its well over forty degrees, and we can expect close to forty degrees in Europe this August. All over the world it is getting hotter and the weather is […]
What is happening with Brexit? We are groping towards a showdown with the European Union and we do not seem to be getting any closer. Theresa May should be putting a hard fist down on Brexit but she is not doing that. We have to call an E.U. Council meeting and discuss the plans for […]
The whole world is in turmoil at the moment, and it has been that for years. When is the world going to be at peace? It does not seem likely for the future unless we go to war in which the whole world will be destroyed. When the war is over then there will be […]
