The School Debate

Theresa May

Theresa May

It amazes me that so many people are up in arms about Theresa May wanting to reintroduce grammar schools. Why, what is wrong with these people? Years ago these schools were the backbone of higher education, excluding university’s of course, and they were there for the more gifted youngsters. They were a beacon for the more intelligent children who eventually got into our university’s.

Corbyn The Fool

Corbyn The Fool

From this system came our brightest scientists, industry entrepreneurs and politicians and many more. Since we no longer have proper grammar schools this has all but disappeared.

Eleven-plus Exam

Eleven-plus Exam

Britain still has 166 grammar schools but they are nothing like they used to be. We need more throughout Britain to give our children a choice in education, and an opportunity to increase their knowledge above that which is taught in secondary modern schools.

I have to say that our education system is currently a total failure, with poor teachers, classroom sizes far too big, and a total lack of discipline, all creating a generation of idiots for the most part. Naturally I do not include all children or teachers in this category. Compared to years ago, few of our children are bright enough to get to university. If we ever stopped foreign students from entering them most would close down for lack of pupils.

In Days Gone By

In Days Gone By

When I compare today’s education system with what it was like when I was a child I have to say that the entire system is a shambles. Teachers of my day knew their subject back to front and inside out. You asked a question and you got an immediate answer, whereas today many teachers must refer to the lesson material before giving an answer.

Street Thugs

Street Thugs

Discipline has gone out the window because the teacher is not allowed to take any action against an unruly pupil, except perhaps to send them out of the class. Long gone are the most effective methods of teaching a child discipline in class, and today, if any action is taken the parents will be hammering on the headmaster’s door complaining like hell. No, I’m afraid child discipline is a thing of the past, which is evident in the child and teenage thugs, thieves and killers we have in our society today. I do not blame the schools entirely for this because many parents do little to bring up their child properly.

We make no difference today between a gifted child and a fool with the current system and that is a shame. Gifted children should be given a good education to make the most of their talents in grammar schools, but they can’t currently have that when sharing a class with dunces, to use an old word.

Grammar Schools In England

Grammar Schools In England

Ever since Tony Blair had exams made easier so that he could show high pass rates  for kids the whole system has gone down the drain. Many teachers are no longer trained properly, have scant knowledge of their chosen subject and in my view are practically worthless.

If teachers were trained properly they would know their chosen subject inside out, and be able to answer any question from pupils without referring to their books. It worked years ago why not now? The answer to that is because the teachers are not trained properly, and often enter schools before they are fully qualified because of a shortage.

Could We See Another Albert Einstein?

Could We See Another Albert Einstein?

If Britain is to move forward in the current high-tech world, we have to start training our children to behave properly, learn properly and be a credit to society, not some lout always looking for a fight.

If the grammar school idea is put into practice, we have to ensure that teachers are properly qualified, and the most gifted children are allowed to attend. The 11-plus exam certainly separates the wheat from the chaff, and this is precisely what we need if this country is to move forward. We need to nurture our more brighter pupils into becoming our future leaders in science, industry and politics.

When Fun Turns Evil

Carnaval Notting HillIt seems people cannot go out and have a little fun these days without someone causing trouble. Last weekend was the Notting Hill Carnival to celebrate the Caribbean Culture in Britain, but as usual, somebody started causing trouble. Whenever there is a celebration or peaceful demonstration in Britain there is always someone who thinks it is an excuse to cause mayhem. What is wrong with these people?

Police Deal With An Incident

Police Deal With An Incident

During the Notting Hill celebrations 454 people were arrested on charges that included drug possession, carrying knives, assault, sexual offences and theft. During the Carnival  a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in Wornington Road on Sunday. His injuries were critical but are now non-life threatening. A 14-year-old boy was arrested. Three other males, aged 15 to 20, were also wounded in knife attacks on the opening day of the festival.

Medics were on hand to administer help to those who were injured or unwell from alcohol or drugs. Medical beds were even deployed at roadsides in some locations. Ambulance and first aid crews treated more than 1,000 people, mostly for alcohol-related injuries, 77 of whom needed to be hospitalized.

Arrest Of A Suspect

Arrest Of A Suspect

Ken Marsh, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, said “A seemingly growing number of people appear intent on hijacking this Carnival and turning it into a Bank Holiday battleground. The Glastonbury music festival had 40 arrests this year. Notting Hill had 10 times that amount. The organisers need to understand that this event cannot carry on regardless. I think many Londoners will wonder whether the significant amount of taxpayers’ money spent policing this event is frankly worth it.”

The carnival, founded in 1966 by West Indian immigrants following the Notting Hill race riots of 1958, frequently has involved clashes with police. Many local businesses have closed during the event since 1977, when police stormed the carnival amid looting of shops. The 2008 festivities ended in a street riot. Last year, police arrested 407 people, a record for an event where knifing’s committed by youth gangs have become a troubling trend.

In my view these same troublemakers are responsible for hi-jacking very many public events and demonstrations. I believe they are out to deliberately cause trouble, and use such gatherings as an excuse ‘to have a go’ at people and the police every time there is a gathering. This sort of thing is a cancer in Britain and it is spreading.

The Press On The G20 Riots

The Press On The G20 Riots

The country has had so many of these incidents over the past ten years, like the G20 riots in June 2010. There is without doubt a minority of youth in Britain who are looking for any excuse to cause trouble because it makes them feel good. Burning cars and buildings, attacking the police, and not forgetting looting shops.

G20 Destruction

G20 Destruction

Part of the problem is that the police always get blamed for ‘heavy handedness’  when they try to stop these attacks. It has been proven that police are provoked and when they hit back they are recorded on video camera’s or phones which is then distributed on the internet. During the G20 riots this happened in several cases, in particular with a teenage girl who deliberately baited a policeman until he smacked her across the face. She continued to bait him and eventually he hit her with his truncheon on the leg. The video went viral and the officer was suspended, all through no fault of his own.

Good Parent?

Good Parent?

Its for sure that things will never change now in Britain and the problem may get steadily worse For it is a fact that many children from poorer families in the U.K. are allowed to do as they please by their parents, because they cannot be bothered to control them and bring them up properly.

I am not saying that Britain is the only place where such things happen, but it does occur there far more than in other countries. You only have to look at the riots that took place during the last European Football Challenge to see how it is spreading.

Football In The Street

Football In The Street

It is very different from when I was a child, when people had respect for each other and children were brought up properly. We have entered an age where ‘anything goes’ and you can do what the hell you like. If you get caught, so what, you will probably only get a warning from the judge not to do it again and you will be free to carry on.

This is not what life is supposed to be about.

What The Hell Is Wrong With British Teens These Days

Knife Fight

Knife Fight

I read today of yet another knife attack in a crowded shopping centre in West London. Thankfully the victims wounds are not life threatening, but what does it say about the youth today? Hardly a day goes by that we do not hear on the news of someone either getting killed or attacked with a knife. Its a far cry from the days when I was young, for this type of thing never happened, but today people seem to consider it ‘normal’.

I blame the lack of proper upbringing of kids these days, where discipline has literally been thrown out the window. No longer are children brought up to respect others and have a good time without getting violent. Tempers flare at the drop of a hat and the end result is always the same.

Part of the problem of course is that they never get proper punishment because the ‘Do-Gooders’ rule the country. People like the European Human Rights Council, the Politically Correct Brigade and many others who seem to think that we should not punish criminals too hard. In today’s world murder has become a part of life and is perfectly acceptable.

These days, if you commit murder you can expect to be sentenced for up to ten years in prison, but are released in three or four years. The prisons are like holiday camps and the time served for murder is an insult to the victims and their family. What is more important, it does nothing to persuade someone to change their ways.

The Victim Of A Knife Fight

The Victim Of A Knife Fight

Old people stabbed to death for just a few measly pounds, teachers stabbed to death in their classroom, teens stabbed as the result of a silly argument – where will it all end? In a few years time everyone will need to carry an automatic rifle or a hand gun just to protect themselves and we will be like America. It seems we are headed for total anarchy in the coming years.

Now that we are getting out from under the jackboot of the European Union I sincerely hope that Theresa May will bring back a proper system of justice like we used to have. In my youth murders were seldom committed because the killer knew he would be hung if found guilty.

I know many people will not agree with this, but if we are to stop this rampant murdering of innocents and vicious attacks on our streets, then we need to bring back the death penalty. This one act would see the number of murders in a year drop through the floor, for each individual would know what awaits them if they kill someone.

Life of Luxury In Prison.

Life of Luxury In Prison.

I know of the arguments that our prisons are full to overflowing, but we can partially solve that be deporting all immigrants who commit severe crimes in the U.K. and we should build more prisons and to hell with the cost. Also, our prisons should be a place of punishment, not a holiday camp where they lounge around all day watching TV or playing computer games in their cells. Sentences should fit the crime and not restricted to three or four years for murder.

If nothing is done to seriously stop this escalation in crime everyone will live in fear for their lives in the future. The government must take some positive action to stop the rampant crime rate currently afflicting our nation. I am but a lone voice in this insane world, but it would be nice if someone in authority took notice of what I have said.

Why Is Everyone So Violent Today?

Posted in America, Britain, Child Discipline, England, European Union, Football, Justice, News, Parenting, Teen Violence with tags , , , , on 11/07/2016 by floroy1942

Apart from previous wars, the general public have never been as excessively violent as they are today. I wonder why? What is it that drives people at, for example, football matches to become so angry that we see running street battles and fans attacking each other or the police in the stadium? Something has changed in the psyche of many people today that I just fail to understand.

Fan Violence

Fan Violence

When I was young fans always respected each other, and just because their side lost didn’t mean that they would turn to violence against those who supported the winners. And yet today we hardly see a football match that doesn’t turn to fighting among fans, especially at international matches.

We have seen violent demonstrations in America where the blacks are having a go at the police because they feel that they are hard done by, and yes, I fully realize that there have been three killings of Black people in dubious circumstances in recent days. But instead of having a peaceful demonstration there is always someone who wants to turn it into a violent confrontation with the police.

We have seen the same thing in France, Germany and other European countries for a variety of reasons ranging from football to political differences. Today in Britain street violence, especially between teenagers particularly on a Friday and Saturday night in many towns and cities across the U.K., has risen out of all proportion, Why?

In my view it is because most parents do not have any control over their offspring anymore. When I was growing up my mother was always at home and always there when I needed her, but that is not true today. Most parents see their children for maybe two or three hours a day because they are both working. As a consequence, there is nobody at home to make sure the children are brought up properly, and by that I mean, being respectful of others and being honest. This makes them ‘loose cannons’ whenever they have to interact with others.

Young Murderer Kills Teacher

Young Murderer Kills Teacher

In Britain in particular we have children and teenagers who will murder an old person for the few pounds they have in their pocket, and you can’t deny this for it has happened time and again. In a previous post I relayed the news item that a young man had stolen the wallet from an accident victim who lay badly injured and then walked away and left him on the street. In my youth that would never have happened, for the person concerned would have done everything to help and not just stolen the money and walked away. Oh how times have changed!

To me it seems that we have entered an age where many people put themselves first and to hell with everyone else. Of course I do not mean those of us who still care and behave properly. Naturally I am not saying that everyone is like this, and not everyone would get into a fight because their team lost, but the numbers are growing with our youth and young people. In maybe ten years time I can see a period where complete anarchy reigns across many countries in the world, for it takes very little to get some people’s blood boiling and they take to violence.

Riots In Venezuela 2014

Riots In Venezuela 2014

The history of riots tells us that things have got much worse in the twentieth Century than they ever were before. For example, from 1900 until 1920 there were thirty riots across the entire world. From 2001 to 2010 there were 113 riots across the world, and from 2011 until now we have seen 288. It is good to remember that these are riots by the people and not just incidents at football stadiums, for many got killed during these confrontations.

Life Of Luxery

Life Of Luxury

Part of the problem is that the legal system in many countries is failing. I can only talk about Britain for that is my country, but the justice system is very weak in Britain because of the continued interference of the European Human Rights Council. It has weakened our laws to the extent that a stay in jail for a couple of years for murder is like staying at a holiday camp.

This is partly the reason why many do not fear going to jail for acts of murder, rape or just sheer brutality. In most cases those involved in street fights or at football matches couldn’t give a damn, for they know they will most likely be told in court not to misbehave anymore and are let off with a warning.

Whichever way you look at it, and whatever country you reside in, general violence is becoming more of a daily thing and it makes me wonder where it will all end.

What The Hell Is Wrong With British Youth Today?

Taunting Other Nations Fans And The Police

Taunting Other Nations Fans And The Police

We now have the start of the Euro 2016 football championships, and even before the first match is played there is trouble on the streets of Marseilles. As you would expect, English fans are in the thick of it.

Our International Football Image

Our International Football Image

On the morning of the first match, long before it was about to begin, English fans were in the bars getting ‘tanked up’. No wonder that even before the match began they were fighting on the streets with the police firing off tear gas grenades.

No matter that some will say “We didn’t start it”, if someone else gets aggressive just walk away!

At this point I do have to say that not all fans are like this, but that does not detract from the fact that there are too many who love to cause trouble.

The Battle Begins

The Battle Begins

After the match was over trouble started again with fighting, flares being thrown and general mayhem on the streets. From reports it would seem that Russian and German fans were just as much to blame for the chaos.

But say what you like about who is to blame, many English fans can’t wait to get drunk and fight with someone. Even in our home towns and cities, if you walk around the centre between eleven and one o’clock in the morning you will find drunken youths fighting outside a disco or bar. This alcohol addiction by our youth has grown out of all proportion. Naturally, as soon as they get enough inside them some want to fight.

Drunken Teen

Drunken Teen

Even here in Spain, if you go to Puerto Banus near Marbella in late evening you are sure to find a crowd of very rowdy, swearing English youth insulting passers-by. Very often there are fights too in bars and disco’s as well as on the street.

Say what you like, but the English are not very well liked by many visitors and Spanish during the holidays.

When there is a gang of English sat at a table in a bar or restaurant making a lot of noise as they swear with every other word, the looks of disapproval on the faces of other foreign visitors and Spanish sat nearby is plain to see. I know for I have witnessed it myself.

We Need National Service

We Need National Service

But the big problem is how to stop this drinking and aggressive attitude? Well, one way would be to bring back National Service. Let these idiots be put through an Army training camp where they are pushed literally to the limit with drills, and hikes carrying 30lbs on their back.

Push-ups

Push-ups

Let them go through this and they will learn how to behave themselves for the Army will not accept anyone who does not ‘toe the line’. They will be pushed to the limits of their endurance both physically and mentally, and I am sure they will not be so ready to get into fights after heavy drinking.

Hard Training

Hard Training

Not only that, but the Army can teach them a trade that will carry them through the rest of their lives, and they will not be swelling the Dole queues – leave that to the immigrants!

This Will Teach Them Right From Wrong!

This Will Teach Them Right From Wrong!

With the sad state of our education system and a lack of proper upbringing, the situation in Britain will only get worse as time goes by.

Our prisons are already full to overflowing and criminals are getting shorter and shorter sentences because the system is overloaded. This is not the answer, there has to be another way. In my view that is National Service which will teach them responsibility, respect and a trade.

Religion Is Dying In Britain

Posted in America, Britain, Christianity, England, Justice, News, Parenting, Prison, Teen Violence, Theft with tags , , , , on 24/05/2016 by floroy1942

ChurchIt seems that Britain is to become a non-religious country in a few short decades. A report out today indicates that the number of people who consider themselves to have no religion is increasing at a steady rate.

In 2014 a survey showed that 48.5% claimed they had no religion compared to 43.8% who said they had. The 43.8% included Anglicans, Catholics and other denominations. So it would seem that religion is dying in the U.K.

Mind you, I am not surprised considering the state of today’s middle-aged people and in particular the youth. In general, few people in the country today think of anything but ‘self’, which is sad. Yes I know there are those who care for others, but today they are becoming a minority.

Life-long friends like we had when I was young are a thing of the past, for today friends come and go like the wind.

Yet Another Murder - How Many This Month?

Yet Another Murder – How Many This Month?

Never in the history of our country has there been such brutality among the people, and I say this because of the number of brutal murders, rape and robberies that happen today. Hell’s bells, you can’t even have a slight accident today without the driver of the car you touched getting out and beating you up. Just think about it and you will know I am right, at least the old people will.

At one time the greatest majority of people were held in check by their religion and would not think of committing robberies or murder, but today they think nothing of it. “Oh what do I care. I will only get a couple of years in prison if I am caught.”

When they kill an old-age pensioner for a few pounds they have no remorse at all, or when they seriously injure someone in a street brawl on a Saturday night.

When all today’s old-age pensioners are dead, religion will die in Britain along with them. We will see all our churches closed down and more than likely turned into mosques. Now there’s a thought! All our church clergy and bishops will be lining up at the dole office for their weekly handout.

You might be forgiven for thinking that religion has no place in today’s world, but you would be wrong. Religion has for centuries given people a set of standards to live by, being kind to others, helping others, and caring about those who are less fortunate than themselves. I am not saying that everyone lived by these rules, but the greater majority did.

Prison Today - Like A Holiday

Prison Today – Like A Holiday

When I was young there were very few murders in the country and the killers were hung for their crimes. Now-a-days they get off with a few short years in a prison that is like a holiday camp with all the mod-cons. I much preferred the old system that put the fear of God into any would-be killer.

It is a sad situation, but is something we have to accept for the future.

Where Did We Go Wrong?

Posted in Britain, Child Discipline, England, English Schools, Immigration, Justice, News, Parenting, Prison, Teen Violence with tags , , , , on 29/10/2015 by floroy1942

Having survived 72 years on this planet I have to ask where we went wrong in the past to bring the country to the state it’s in now. I scan the news daily, and never a day goes by where I don’t read that someone somewhere has been murdered, robbed or raped, and I fail to see what has happened to the British people.

Today I read that a schoolboy had been stabbed to death by another pupil at a school in Scotland, and almost every day is the same. Pupils even stab teachers in school because for some reason they get angry.

Old people robbed while they lay desperately hurt after being struck by a hit-and-run driver. No attempt made to help them, just take their money and leave them on the street. Very often, youngsters break into an old person’s house, knife them and steal their money and valuables because they are an easy target.

Saturday Night Brawl

Saturday Night Brawl

Go into town on a saturday night and you will be lucky in many places if you don’t see young girls lying comatose on the pavement after a night of drugs and heavy drinking, and you will more than likely see a bunch of drunken youths fighting viciously outside a disco or club. More often than not they are also high on drugs.

Road rage is another symptom of modern times in that people do stupid things on the road and the offended driver gets out of his car in a vicious rage and attacks the other driver physically. It happens all across the country and it never seems to end. Why?

What has got into people these days that makes them so aggressive at what they consider the slightest of insults. Pretty soon you won’t even dare to say “Good morning” to anyone for fear they may take it the wrong way and attack you.

I know this is not a general situation for everybody, but the number of Press reports of murder and assault have gone through the roof these last ten years and there has to be a reason for it.

There are I think three reasons for the current wave of violence on our streets, one is the parents, another is the complete farce that our system of justice  has become, and finally, the breakdown of our education system.

Is This The Correct Way To Bring Up A Child?

Is This The Correct Way To Bring Up A Child?

Firstly it is a total failure of the last generation of parents to teach their offspring respect, honesty and integrity. Most are happy to have their children ‘out from under their feet’ and don’t give a damn about how they behave or what they do while away from home. All too often the child says, “I want….” and before you know it they are given it. No effort has been made to teach children the three basic values, and now we have to live with the consequences.

When I look back at my own childhood I remember getting a clip around the ear for some minor infraction, or my dad’s slipper across my backside or the cane at school for something more serious. It made me realize in time that there are rules to the way you live and I was made to abide by them. The three basic values were instilled in me and I have lived by them to this day.

All that disappeared years ago, and partly because of the ‘Goody Goody Brigade’ who convinced certain important people that to discipline a child had to be done by purely talking to them. You were not allowed to hit a child for any reason. Where did these people came from?

Parents quickly began to live by these rules, and soon children lost the one thing that allowed them to learn how they should behave and live their lives, i.e. discipline. Many of today’s youth, especially in the poorer parts of town, are nothing more than thugs going around in gangs, some no more than ten years old. They do as they please, attack innocent people just for fun, rob shops for the thrill, and the sad thing is they get away with it. Even if they are caught by the Police they are more often than not let off with a caution not to do it again, which they naturally ignore.

Ricky Preddie On His Release After Serving Just 4 Years For Killing Damilola Taylor

Ricky Preddie On His Release After Serving Just 4 Years For Killing Damilola Taylor

Our modern justice system also has a lot to answer for because they no longer give meaningful sentences to those who break the law, and this is proven by killers getting light sentences and not even having to serve their full term. Gone are the days when you were locked up for twenty or thirty years for killing someone, now they get sentenced to ten years but are out in three. It’s no wonder the system has failed in preventing such crimes.

Furthermore, our education system has failed an entire generation of young people, many of whom are leaving school without the ability to read or write properly, and as for adding two and two – forget it.

What is even more frightening is that Muslim immigrants have so much power in the country that they are slowly destroying what is left of our education system with their demands for classes in arabic because they have not taken the trouble to integrate and learn the language of their adopted country.

Muslim Family With 12 Children

Muslim Family With 12 Children

Today I read that the population of Britain will increase from its current 62.5 million to over 74 million within the next 12 years. And why? Two reasons, mainly the massive immigration into our country that is still going on, and to a very much smaller extent, the increased life expectancy of our old folks.

As many know by now, most British families restrict themselves to two children, but at the same time, Muslim families will have five, six or even more children. In a few years this will make them a very large portion of the population, and you can imagine what will happen then.

I am just glad I will not be around to see it!

Roy.
