So The EU Wants To Limit My Speed

Posted in Britain, England, Europe, Germany, Insanity, Modern World, Police, Politics, Spain, UK with tags , , , , on 03/09/2013 by floroy1942

It has just been announced that the EU is planning to have all cars in Europe fitted with automatic speed limiters that will come into effect every time you pass a speed limit sign. Well for my money they can kiss my backside! While some may believe that it could cut down on accidents I very much doubt it. The reason I think that is because in my view most are caused by driver crass stupidity, alcohol, drugs, or mobile phones.

How The System Works

How The System Works

It is said the system will involve camera’s being mounted on every car to read the available speed limit signs, and a black box somewhere in the car which will beam it on to a satellite from which the command will come back to apply the brakes. It seems the system will have three options, Firstly it will give an audible warning, secondly it will slow the car down but give the driver the option of turning the device off, or it will be mandatory.  I think the ‘mandatory’ bit is certainly fraught with danger, audible warnings will often be disregarded and if you can switch it off what’s the point of having it in the first place. Doesn’t make sense to me! What about when a lorry or van is parked on the side of the road obscuring the speed limit sign from the camera? Oops – we haven’t thought of that!

Whooosh And Its Gone

Whooosh And Its Gone

Can you even begin to imagine what this ‘law’ would do to the stocks and shares of Ferrari, Lamborghini and other super fast car manufacturers? I simple cannot imagine a Ferrari being restricted to a maximum of 70mph which is the top speed limit in the UK reserved for motorways. The only country in Europe where you would be able to ‘let-rip’ would be Germany, because I can never see them accepting something as crass as this.

The EU plan is for every new car to be fitted with the device and they plan, apparently, to make it law that all cars already on the road must have it fitted. As a car owner I wonder who is going to pay for this contraption (there is no other word for it) to be fitted to my car? Me? Not bloody likely!

Having lived on the Costa del Sol in Spain for a several years now I can attest to the stupidity of some drivers, in fact I have frequently said most of them here should not be allowed to control a kiddie’s three-wheel bike, let alone a car. On four separate occasions at a particular set of traffic lights on a junction in Marbella I have almost been rammed in the side by idiots who think red lights don’t apply to them. You see it on the roads here every day.

Marbella A7 - One In The Middle Lane One In The Outside Lane And Not Another Car In Sight

Marbella A7 – One In The Middle Lane One In The Outside Lane And Not Another Car In Sight

They love the outside lane on two lane carriageways and the middle lane on three-lane motorways. Very often there is no traffic at all on the inside lane, and everyday you see people overtaking a line of cars on the inside and then forcing their way into the next lane when they come up behind a slow lorry or car.

Coming back from Malaga airport recently on the main three-lane motorway, I saw a black Porsche weaving from one lane to the next at high speed, overtaking in any lane that had a gap. I have no idea if he got to his destination, but if he did God was certainly working overtime to keep him alive.

I am aware this sort of behaviour is mostly in the south, for many drivers in the north of Spain are a little better, but when you drive in many countries of Europe as I have done, there are bad, and stupid, drivers in every country. Watching their antics makes you wonder how they ever got their licence.

Just About Right For Some Drivers

Just About Right For Some Drivers

The case for alcohol and drugs causing accidents is well known and  I will not go into it here. But how about the mobile phone? Millions of people answer their mobile while driving, and almost as many are guilty of doing such silly things as texting while driving. All very stupid, for there is no way you can have your brain and  eyes on the road when you are fiddling with the phone trying to type out a text message. It just cannot be done, for the phone requires 100% of your attention. This is often when accidents happen.

Some Statistics - Note The 77%

Some Statistics – Note The 77%

With mobiles in mind, I have said before that the only way to cut out this hazard is for there to be a very short-range jammer fitted on all cars that will prevent the receiving and making of calls while the engine is running. It can be a signal that shuts down the phone completely until the engine is once more switched off. Some will argue, well what about the passengers? Well, to answer that, what if the device was fitted into the steering wheel boss and the beam only covered the drivers position? Signal strength, range and spread can be tailored these days with any radio type device. But that is just an idea, and it will not get the stupid people off the road.

There can be little doubt that the two major accident causes still remain stupidity and alcohol. So far as stupidity goes the only answer there may be to have an automatic device that will lobotomise the driver if he does something silly, but that will take at least 75% of drivers off the road and we can’t have that, but come to think of it, wouldn’t it be heaven, and the planet would love us too. To combat the drunks maybe we need to fit all cars with a breathalyzer in the steering wheel too and the car won’t start until you pass the test.

Motorway

Motorway

Either way I do not see the EU proposal as doing anything useful except maybe causing more accidents in situations where a sudden burst of speed can get you out of trouble. I agree with the commentators who have said that the EU has become a ‘nanny’ state, and I for one am sick of them trying to impose on everyone these idiotic ideas that have not been thought out properly. The only transport system that will totally remove the problem of accidents will be robotic cars where you can relax reading the paper while the car takes you to your destination automatically. Until then EU:- Shove it!

Reaction To The Scandalous Syria Debate

Demonstrators On The Streets Of Britain

Demonstrators On The Streets Of Britain

In the beginning I was skeptical about us taking any action in Syria (See last post), but have rapidly become convinced that it is the only way to stop the proliferation of chemical attacks on civilians by the Assad regime, and give a warning to other dictators across the world who may wish to use them.

Having become convinced, and as an educated Brit, I have to hang my head in shame at the attitude of the Labour Party and the general public to the crisis in Syria. All the talk is of David Cameron getting beaten by Ed Miliband in the Commons debate this last week because Miliband changed his mind on the day of the debate, after first agreeing that action should be contemplated. At no time previously did Cameron say we were going to ‘march into war’ against the Assad regime, only that we should be prepared to back the Americans in a targeted missile strike against specific government forces military installations.

This Is The Joker Labour Want Us To Vote For In The Next Election

This Is The Joker Labour Want Us To Vote For In The Next Election

However, clever political manoeuvring by Miliband, who was afraid of his own party and losing electorate backing, made a jump to the other side and scuppered the whole plan. His whole stance has been to curry favour with the electorate, and silence his many critics within his own party. But there again, I suppose we should expect nothing less from this spineless, slimy, individual who leads a political party that successfully brought the country to its knees, shafted the people, and sabotaged its traditions and way of life.

I have spent considerable time reading comments on the various stories as they appeared on Yahoo, and the one thing that surprised me more than anything is that the greater majority of the writers don’t care what is happening there and just want to ‘pull up the drawbridge’. It’s not our problem” – “We should stay out of it” – “Why should our boys be killed in a foreign country?” There are almost 2000 comments on these articles and more then 90% of them are against involvement.

Cruise Missile Submarine Launch

Cruise Missile Submarine Launch

This is despite the fact that at no time was it planned for troops to be involved as the response would be made by cruise missiles from the Americans aimed at strategic military bases of the Assad forces. In short, there would be no ‘boots on the ground’ to use an American expression. But still hundreds are bleating about ‘Our boys getting killed over there’!

It is so easy to look at TV images and newspaper photographs of people suffering and not want to get involved, but all the pictures in the world will not accurately describe the suffering. If I had my way I would ship a few thousand of these dissenters, including Miliband and his acolytes, over to Syria and let then see first hand the results of a chemical weapons attack, and what it does to the human body. I would have them see first-hand the pain and suffering of the ordinary Syrian people in this civil war, and I guarantee you 90% of them would be throwing up at the sight of it and would change their minds in a heartbeat.

The Results Of Sarin Gas Use

The Results Of Sarin Gas Use

Chemical weapons are the most heinous of weapons and assault the innocent as well as military forces, but they were deliberately unleashed on civilians who had nothing to do with the fighting, many of them children I might add. It is a horrible way to die, the terror of which can scarcely be imagined, and there is nothing you can do to stop it unless you have a gas mask, and civilians don’t. The release of this weapon was a calculated and extremely callous act which must be answered – by someone.

It is very clear from the last two years that the other Arab nations are not prepared to stick their necks out and deal with Assad, so it is left up to those nations still left in the world that have a conscience. As usual this is America, Great Britain, and this time France. However, the British people have made it clear they do not want to ‘go to war’, not understanding that we would not be, the attack is nothing more than a ‘shot across the bows’ for Assad, warning him that the use of weapons of mass destruction will not be tolerated in the world. No-one, I repeat no-one has said a word about ‘going to war’ with Syria, that is all in the mind of these poor misguided creatures who think we should do nothing.

If nothing is done to warn Assad against using these weapons, he will continue to use them because he knows he can, and no-one will stop him. It would be foolish for the world to turn its back on what has happened in Syria over the past two weeks, for then at the first sign of trouble, every dictator in the world will start using them if they think it’s necessary.

Agent Orange - An Unprotected Soldier Sprays Agent Orange On Foliage

Agent Orange – An Unprotected Soldier Sprays Agent Orange On Foliage

Many of the commentators began bleating about the American’s using agent Orange during the Vietnam war in which thousands died. They called it a chemical attack without really knowing that it was defoliant used to strip the trees of their leaves so the Communists could not hide under them. When it was first used nobody had any idea of the terrible effects it had on the human body until it was too late. I have seen photo’s of American soldiers on the ground during a spraying and they all got covered in  it. Is the American government so callous that it would kill its own men too? I doubt it. This to me makes it clear that the product was put into service far too quickly without its full effects being known. It was a mistake, and a big one, but I am sure it was not intentional. But the uninformed idiots that occupy Britain these days, most of whom were not even born then, are calling it a chemical attack, when to all intents the only casualties were the trees. It was only later that its disastrous effects on the human body became apparent.

One disillusioned man was even convinced that the whole Arab Spring, including Syria, is a plot by western governments and their “Oligarchs” to take over all the Middle East countries and so get their hands on the oil. He even went further to say that 9/11 was ‘arranged by these same people to stoke up anti-Arab feeling’. How can any sane person with an iota of common sense think such a thing. Its too bizarre for words.

On a different level, it is no surprise that Putin has spoken out about the proposed action, saying in effect that the whole story is western propaganda and there was no gas attack. This comes as no surprise to me, for the Russians have steadfastly vetoed any plans to stop the needless bloodshed in Syria. The reason behind this is that Russia is making billions from trade with Assad, and more importantly, they wish to protect the only naval seaport they have outside the Black Sea in Tartus, Syria.

Russian Warships In The Harbour

Russian Warships In Tartus Harbour

Careful examination of the northern part of the port using Google Earth reveals the truth of this, including one photograph. Putin does not want Assad to be replaced because the Russians know they will lose this port, which will push their Navy back into the Black Sea with its narrow entrance controlled by Turkey. Reason enough to back Assad to the hilt. This is on top of the billions of dollars they make in trade with Syria, including military hardware. China is the other UN member to use its veto, and while they have no military interest in Syria, they do have billions of dollars in trade with Syria.

Arab League In Session

Arab League In Session

Some have argued that the Arab League should shoulder the load of sorting out the problems in Syria, and I agree 100%. It is an Arab problem and they are best suited to solving it, but I think they are afraid they may incur the wrath of the terrorists groups who are distinctly active in the conflict. I have said in previous posts on the subject that I believe they are deeply involved, as they were in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. Their one goal is to see the whole Arab world, and then the rest of us, as a Muslim State with their barbarous Sharia Law. They will not stop fermenting trouble until they get it.

But that is a side issue because the main thrust of the whole subject is that no-one, I repeat, no-one should be allowed to use chemical weapons with impunity because this will set a precedent for every tin-pot dictator to do as they please.

A Man With A Conscience And A Big Problem

A Man With A Conscience And A Big Problem

The latest news indicates that Barak Obama will now go to Congress to sanction the planned actions against Assad. The result of this may be anticipated by some, but the outcome is by no means certain.

UN Inspector On The Ground

UN Inspector On The Ground

Many, including Labour, are saying we should wait for the outcome of the UN investigation before deciding on action. Many are convinced that it is all a rebel plot to deceive us. What most people fail to realize is that the rebels do not have any aircraft or pilots, and more importantly, no chemical weapons as these are all in the hands of Assad forces. So I fail to see how they could launch such an attack. I am willing to admit that I may be wrong, but as things stand at the moment that is the only conclusion that can be drawn.

The one thing that is clear is that the UN inspectors will make no attempt to provide information on this issue, for their mandate has been purely to establish if chemical weapons were used and nothing more. So even when they bring out their report, which will be delayed by several weeks, it will not change the situation one iota. It will still be a judgement call by western nations.

Areas Of Recent Gas Attacks

Areas Of Recent Gas Attacks

Do not forget that this last attack was by no means the first as there have been many preceding it in other areas. To me it looks like Assad was ‘testing the waters’ with these earlier attacks just to see what the international reaction would be. He got away with them without a big fuss and so decided to go in for the big one. I am sure that if the international community do not react strongly to this latest outrage he will do it again and again.

Much has been said about the West aiding the rebels, but that also is untrue. Any strike by the coalition would not be giving significant aid to them because there would be very few targets attacked. It has never been the intention to ‘rain down’ missiles all over Syria, but merely to take out a small number of selected sites to show Assad that he cannot get away with using WMD on his own people.

A Victim - What If This Was Your Child?

A Victim – What If This Was Your Child?

Commentators have also blamed the rebels for the tragic napalm attack on a school that took place last week after the gas attack. Many children and adults were literally incinerated alive in this attack and many more received up to 90% burns over their bodies. Pictures of the victims abounded on the internet, but still people blamed the rebels, despite them having no means of delivery.

Napalm Cannister

Napalm cannister

Unlike phosphorous, napalm cannot be fired from guns but must be dropped by aircraft. This is because by their very nature, napalm weapons must have very thin walls so as to burst on impact and spread their contents as far as possible, and to try and fire them from an artillery piece would mean they explode in the barrel. For this reason they have to be dropped by aircraft, which the rebels don’t have. From the many comments on this story it is clear that the general public is making up its mind in total ignorance of any knowledge on the subject.

Sadly, this is a dangerous precedent, for it means there will be no censure of Assad outside of useless rhetoric, which he will take as a ‘licence to kill’ and continue the slaughter of innocents. Most people seem to be content to leave it all to the UN, but as we have learned over the years, the UN is a ‘toothless tiger’ that has betrayed its original ideals for the last 70 years. Winston Churchill will be spinning in his grave at the sorry mess it has become.

Stop Press: The Express newspaper is currently carrying a headline that says: Senior Syrian military chiefs tell captain: fire chemicals or be shot. While I am sure many of the disbelievers  among the public decry this as government propaganda, I doubt it. According to a high ranking RAF officer:  “The commander of the artillery battery told the regional commander that he would not comply and there was a heated exchange. He was told in direct language that unless the order was carried out, he would be shot. A total of 27 chemical artillery shells were then fired at the suburb in a 14-minute period.”

The conversation was monitored and recorded by British officers based at the remote mountain-top RAF Troodos Signals Intelligence listening post in Cyprus and within minutes details of the conversation had been relayed to GCHQ, Whitehall and the Pentagon according to the Express. I have been to Cyprus with the RAF and I can assure readers that such a monitoring station exists.

This is just another nail in the coffin of Assad for Miliband and all the millions of doubters that are crying for us to stay out of it. The evidence is piling up and there are thousands of such pieces of information that have been gathered on the subject. Pretty soon Miliband, the Labour Party, as well as all the doubters will have a mass of egg on their faces.
