The Julia Gillard ‘Muslim Speech’ – The Truth

Julia Gillard, the fiery Australian Prime Minister, is reputed to have given a speech telling Muslims who cannot accept and live by Australian standards to leave the country. It has been shown that she did not in fact give such a speech but that it was fabricated from other sources.

Barry Loudermilk

Barry Loudermilk

In fact it comes from an American Air Force veteran by the name of Barry Loudermilk who, after 9/11,  put his thoughts into a letter which he posted to friends with a copy to the local newspaper, the Bartow Trader. Within a very short time it was passed on to State newspapers, and very soon Barry Loudermilk was inundated with letters from people all over the country who agreed with what he wrote.

The following is the text of his letter dated October 2002:

At a high school in Oklahoma, school officials remove “God Bless America” signs from schools in fear that someone might be offended.
At a Long Island, New York television station, management orders flags removed from the newsroom, and red, white, and blue ribbons removed from the lapels of reporters. Why? Management did not want to appear biased, and felt that our nation’s flag might give the appearance that “they lean one way or another.”
Officials in a California city ban U.S. flags from being displayed on city fire trucks because they didn’t want to offend anyone in the community.
In an “act of tolerance”, the head of the public library at a Florida university ordered all “Proud To Be an American” signs removed so as to not offend international students.

Politically Correct Attacks Against America
I, for one, am quite disturbed by these actions of so-called “American citizens”; and I am tired of this nation worrying about whether or not we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11th, we have experienced a surge of patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled in New York and Washington, DC when the “politically correct” crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. In fact, our country’s population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants; however, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some native-born Americans, need to understand.

If You’re Among the Politically Correct, Here’s What You Need to Know
First of all, it is not our responsibility to continually try not to offend you in any way. This idea of America being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language, and our own lifestyle. This culture, called the “American Way” has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. Our forefathers fought, bled, and died at places such as Bunker Hill, Antietam, San Juan Hill, Iwo Jima, Normandy, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf, for our way of life.

We speak English, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn our language!

And Yes, We Do Trust in God
“In God We Trust” is our national motto. This is not some off-the-wall, Christian, right wing, political slogan. It is our national motto. It is engraved in stone in the House of Representatives in our Capitol, and it is printed on our currency. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation; and this is clearly documented throughout our history. If it is appropriate for our motto to be inscribed in the halls of our highest level of government, then it is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools.

If God Offends You, Here’s What to Do
God is in our pledge, our National Anthem, nearly every patriotic song, and in our founding documents. We honor His birth, death, and resurrection as holidays, and we turn to Him in prayer in times of crisis. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture, and we are proud to have Him.

It’s Our Heritage
We are proud of our heritage and those who have so honorably defended our freedoms. We celebrate Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Flag Day. We have parades, picnics, and barbecues where we proudly wave our flag. As an American, I have the right to wave my flag, sing my national anthem, quote my national motto, and cite my pledge whenever and wherever I choose. If the Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don’t like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

This is Our Culture – If You Don’t Like It You’re Free to Go Elsewhere
The American culture is our way of life, our heritage, and we are proud of it. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don’t care how you did things where you came from. We are Americans. Like it or not, this is our country, our land, and our lifestyle.

Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion about our government, culture, or society, and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, the right to leave!

My thanks to Barry Loudermilk.

If You Don't Like It Here - Leave!

If You Don’t Like It Here – Leave!

Having read this you will recognise many sentences that were supposedly used by Julia Gillard in her ‘speech’ last year, but in actual fact, parts were removed from this letter and put together with the idea of making a speech that she has supposedly given. She did not!

John Howard

John Howard

In 2008 many sentences from the letter were coupled together in a separate piece about ‘Muslims in Australia’ to give the misleading impression of a speech by the previous Prime Minister John Howard.

While the greater majority of western people agree whole-heartedly with the sentiments expressed by the original writer, it is sad that modern politicians do not have the balls to come out and say plainly what everybody is thinking.

German opinions:

I am 100% convinced that with the exception of the “Politically Correct” nut-cases just about every indigenous member of society in Europe, The United States and Canada will agree whole-heartedly with Barry Loudermilk’s letter, and the sooner our politician’s recognize the fact so much the better. At some time in the near future the people will demand to be heard! If you want your country back, go and see your local MP, Congressman or political representative and demand action before it’s too late.

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment. It is way past time these people started integrating, but the problem is they are Muslims, and their religious laws and way of life forbid it. For sure nothing good will come of this influx of Muslim migrants.

    Hey,

I totally agree with most of what you have written above. A man should always be proud of his country and its achievements. It takes centuries and decades to reach the place where a nation is, hence, a person should show due respect. Nevertheless, I am quite concerned about the over-patriotism you have; saying that the USA fought in the Arab Gulf, Vietnam and Korea to make what so called “the American Way of Life” is ridiculous. We all know why the USA fought in these dirty ponds and what was the main purpose. It was not, and never will be for democracy or freedom. The USA’s political lobbies’ agenda is known to everyone. Your fathers and grandfathers were unfortunately mislead to fight in those countries, which were not theirs, just for the sake of granting more allies and more money for the USA’s treasury. It saddens me to see that there are still unaware men and women in the United States who still think in such manner.
Unfortunately, your “American Way of Life” have created globally more enemies for the US than friends. I hope that one day the American Nation would learn from the Scandinavian one. Scandinavia managed to prosper in the last decades without having to steal other countries fortunes. These countries, especially Sweden – which I am currently residing in, invest in what brings more social harmony and justice to its people.
I originally come from the old city of Damascus, Syria. I have my cultural heritage, which I am very proud of, yet I learnt how to adapt to the new place I chose to be in. I agree with your idea that a man should speak the language of the country he chooses to be in, but guess what?! it is not always an easy task to persevere with. I am lucky that I was taught English, French and Japanese when I was a child, but not all people were that fortunate. Instead of asking people to speak your language, maybe it should be better to alternate your efforts so that you can teach them and help them to learn rather than just asking them to be fluent speakers.
Showing sympathy to the minorities in your country does not underestimate you as a nation. When a captain drags the ship with his sailors he is no longer a boss; he is a leader.

    Thank you!

    • Hi Nawras,
Welcome, and thank you for commentating. I do agree wholeheartedly with your idea that immigrants should abide by the laws of the land they move to and do everything they can to integrate fully into their adopted society, and of course learn the language. I fully realize the difficulties of the last, i.e. language, but I believe all countries could help by following the model set out by Holland, i.e. language courses provided by the government. When I got married I lived in Holland, and my wife who is Romanian, was offered a three month course in the Dutch language by the local council and it helped her enormously.
So far as the rest of your statement goes, The bit about about the “American Way of Life’ is nothing more than a direct quote from Barry Loudermilk and is therefore not my own. Whether people agree with this statement or not is entirely up to them. I wish you luck in your new home of Sweden and from your attitude I am sure you will do well. Happy New Year.
      Best Regards,
      Roy.

    • Hi,
I guess most people, especially Aussie’s, would love for some politician to stand tough on immigration, but sadly in the case of Julia Gillard its not true as the post is accurate, and it all began with a letter from an American pilot. Just goes to show you how things get twisted by the press and on the internet. With all the pathetic ‘do-gooders’ around these days it would be political suicide.

I’m dumbfounded by the way arguments and counter argurments have been put forward – it’s so nice to hear views from a cross section of humanity – all I have to say as an Indian is – we know the pain of being subjugated by Foreign powers – and today we would also like that our country is respected in its own entity – no forcible political or religious pressures – the same laws for every one – and if you’re unhappy with the systems – go where they will pamper you.. and I know you wont go because you can get away with anything here – but not in the so called country or religion you belong.

    • Hi Bharat,
Welcome, and nice of you to comment. I agree it is always better to have a cross-section of opinion on matters of importance, so long as it is peaceful and well-meaning.
So far as India is concerned, I am sure that as a nation it is respected in the world and has come a long way in the past thirty years or so. I do not know a lot about the political or religious pressures in India but I do know it is not as bad as some places. I agree with you that people who are “unhappy with the systems” in a country should move to somewhere where the system is more suitable for them, but sadly, in many cases that would be stepping ‘from the frying pan into the fire’ as they say, for the system in their own country is far less tolerant.
      Best Regards,
      Roy.

  9. Edward Pinder Says:

Hi, I am Brithish and I would say I am against patriotism (Except for sport). When I look at the atroscities in the name of my country over past centuries I find it difficult. If I felt ‘proud’ for the positive things my country has done then I feel I would also be subject to fair critiscism or even aggression from for example the Scots or Irish which the Brits have supressed in the past along with many other nations. As I do not feel in any way responsible for the things that happened before my birth I do not want this. I think patriotism is used as means for a nation to control its people, a benefit to the nation but not the rights of the individual. Some of the brainwashing in America, like singing the national anthem school is comparable to some of the propoganda used by the hitler youth. I am confused to what good it does at all. If I see people from two different countries arguing I do not care who is from my own, I want to support the person who I believe is morally right. If people commit acts of ‘terror’ they are breaking the law and they should be tryed as common criminals not Muslims or Afgans. Perhaps there is an argument for a weaker country which is seriously in threat from invading nations, patriotism could rally the people of the country together for a stronger defence of their land from outer aggression. However, I do not think this is needed in such a powerful country as America with no serious threat of such invasion. In an educated society with intelligent rational free people invading another country to capture ‘terrorists’ should be done in the name of fairness, with an open discussion, it should have nothing to do with it being an attack on the sacred land of America. Thanks I would be interested to know your thoughts.

    • Hi Edward,
Thank you for your comment. I am well aware there is little patriotism in Britain today, unless you are a football fan, which seems to be the only time this emotion is evident. However, on this subject I must say that without patriotism in 1939, Britain would be a subjugated nation, and along with the rest of Europe, you would be living under the heel of the Nazi’s right now.
You are right that in the colonial days Britain did things they should not have, but so did every other empire in history. Look at the Spaniards and Portuguese who destroyed entire civilizations in South America.
We are currently dealing with an insidious attack on our lifestyle here in the fight against terrorist groups like al Quada, who attacked without provocation New York, London and Madrid among others. They are therefore criminals who broke the law and should be brought to justice. The scourge of terrorism is striking countries all across the world as they try to gain some form of control. Country by country they want the whole world to be Islam – (Islam will rule the world) Look at Mali, Somalia, Sudan, Syria. In my opinion, they should be tracked down and either killed or brought to justice.
The Iraq war rid the country of a ruthless dictator who used chemical weapons on his own people, and the war in Afghanistan was fought to rid the country of a terror organization that proudly gave al Quada a base from which to operate world-wide. Perhaps the fact that this organization shot a young fourteen-year-old girl in the head for wanting an education is justified? Fanatics like this must be stopped for the sake of world peace, and not all nations are capable of stopping them.
America is a patriotic nation and that is their choice, I only find it sad there is not more of it in Britain. Maybe, in ten or twenty years time, it will rise again as Muslims try to take over the country from the inside. Ever since Blair and his gang of crooks invited so many to enter we have seen various attempts at changing the British way of life. Many towns and boroughs have been virtually taken over by Muslims, e.g. Tower Hamlets London, where they scorn our laws and have attempted to bring in Sharia Law. This is taking place not only in Britain, but many European countries where they are defying the laws and attempting to subjugate people to their way of life. Why is it that if you demonstrate against Muslims you will be arrested, but Muslims can demonstrate against us whenever and wherever they feel like it?
Unless patriotism is revived in Britain we could become an Islamic nation in twenty or thirty years. Would you like to see your wife in a burka, and live under Sharia Law???? It may sound overstated, but it is a distinct possibility unless we solve the problem by being more patriotic and standing up for our rights in our country. I hope I have given you food for thought.
      Best Regards,
      Roy.

Gave up reading at Scots being supressed. We were never supressed, I’m Scottish and my ancestors fought for Britain at Culloden, as did most Scots. Don’t confuse Jacobites with Scots, that war meant no more divine rule by a monarch! And read about the Irish poor law!

      • Hi Calum,
Good to hear from you. I agree there are many Scots who feel as you do, but please remember that the piece you refer to was a comment from a fellow reader and not mine. In my reply I did state that many other civilizations have done far worse than Britain in any foreign country. I am against people who drag up a country’s history for their own ends, or for political reasons, for I believe that history should stay what it is, history. Many people love to drag the UK through the mire because of its ‘history’, but were they worse than say the Spaniards and Portuguese in South America, or the Americans against the Indian population? Not a bit of it, for the Spaniards and Portuguese between them totally eradicated entire civilizations of South America without a qualm, and look what the Americans did to the American Indian. In the past to conquer was to subjugate, but that is no longer relevant.
We have learned a lot as a race over the intervening years, for today, I see no sign that the American’s, British and other countries involved in Iraq and Afghanistan have subjugated the people after they won the battle against tyranny. Each of us have their own opinion and we should be open to hear that of others, regardless.
        Best Regards,
        Roy.
