Roamin’ Romney

Posted in America, Britain, Europe, Iran, Israel, Nuclear Weapons, President, UK, USA with tags , , , on 31/07/2012 by floroy1942

After Mitt Romney’s antics during his European tour I honestly can’t imagine any sane person voting for him to replace Barak Obama. If the man was trying to signal his diplomatic skills in the field of foreign policy he failed dismally.

The British Press Were Not Amused

He has visited three countries, namely the UK, The State of Israel and Poland, and managed to upset someone every time he opened his mouth. First it was the Olympic Committee in Britain, then the Palestinian’s in Israel, and to top it off he upset the unions in Poland. This man desperately wants to become the next president of the United States and thinks he can do a better job than Barak Obama. Sorry Mitt, you can’t! As an ‘outsider’ I dread to think what harm such a man may do if he became President.

Obama has come under a lot of criticism during his time in office, but it does seem to me that much of it is unfounded. What people tend to forget is that he is a Democrat president with a Republican House of Representatives that consistently stood against him and many of his policies, effectively blocking them. The ObamaCare Health Bill is a prime example.

It would be a bit like Britain having a Conservative prime Minister ruling over a Labour government. The two just don’t mix, and certainly cannot work together for the good of the common people.

It Certainly Seems Like It!

While I am in full agreement with putting an end to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, I shudder to think what will happen if the world had Mitt Romney’s finger on the trigger. He has already made it clear he would back any strike by Israel against the Iranian nuclear installations, but who does he think Iran will direct their anger at? Not just Israel that is for sure, and if America retaliates, before you know it the entire Middle East could be at war with the Western World! Sorry! But I for one don’t want that man’s finger on the trigger!

To me he comes across as far too ‘smooth’, and he tells people what he thinks they want to hear, and one question before I finish; Why won’t he release his tax records? It doesn’t take a genius to guess the reason.

Cutting The Foul Language In Football Is A Start!

Posted in Britain, England, Insanity, Modern World, Teens, UK with tags , , , on 23/07/2012 by floroy1942

A week ago last Friday the Professional Footballers’ Association chairman Clarke Carlisle called for a clampdown on foul and abusive language on the football field, and what a good idea it is. After the revelations of the John Terry saga in the last few weeks it is clear the ‘Great Game’ is in desperate need of a thorough clean-up.

The Terry/ Ferdinand Incident

We have had to accept for far too long abusive players and those that stretch the rules to the maximum. Whatever happened to a skilled ninety minutes of fair and honest play?

The UK football teams now have ten times more foreign players than British, and it shows with the increasing number of racial incidents. Racial abuse, foul language and vicious tackling are all part of the current football scene and are accepted, and in some cases encouraged, by both managers and fans alike.  Sometimes it seems that the more violence on the pitch the better the Neanderthal fans like it, but for those who love the game, the whole situation has gotten way out of hand and needs some urgent action. Clarke Carlisle’s statement is but the tip of the iceberg in my view.

Fair Play – Look Again

What all teams seem to forget, is that football is a sport! But unfortunately it ceased to be that when the money men moved in. Now its nothing more than a multi-million pound business and a way to make money. Along with the money men and the exorbitant salaries came new rules; Win at any cost!!! It has all led to an increase in violence on the pitch and a total lack of respect between players and teams.

Something most footballers either don’t know, or worse, don’t care about is that they are role models for the majority of young fans who look up to them and in some cases it borders on idol worship. Their antics on the field are helping to make our youth the most disrespectful and violent in the history of our country. But it is not only the young ones, everywhere you go you hear both men and women mouthing off with the most foul language you can imagine.

Typical Fans

It has become a facet of everyday life as evidenced by the British tourists who come here to the Costa. Practically every day we sit in a local bar or cafe and are forced to listen to the filth coming from the mouths of English tourists with the ‘F’ word being used ten times in every sentence. Among us are Spaniards, Germans, Norwegians, French and many other nationalities, and you can see by the look on their faces how disgusted they are at this English habit.

Of course most of it began when Hollywood started including foul language in films some years ago, and like football, it has gotten completely out of hand.

It’s All Down To You And Your Kind Mr. Furguson!

So as a start, I would love to see team managers cracking down on abusive and foul language, racial abuse and vicious tackling on the pitch because it is a dark road that leads to nowhere. If money is more important than the ‘Great Game’ then we might as well give all the players an AK47, and the last man standing is the winner. Thankfully, there are a few countries where football is still the sport it was intended to be and we should all use them as a role model to reshape the British game.

Time For The Rich To Pay Taxes!

Posted in America, Britain, England, Equality, Modern World, UK, USA with tags , , , , , , on 22/07/2012 by floroy1942

Many parts of the world are suffering the biggest financial turmoil for many decades and yet there are tens of thousands of individuals across the globe who pay but a tiny fraction of the taxes they should. Of course, by that I mean the super rich! A band of selfish, greedy, self-important, conniving, shady, lying, cheating…. Oh Dear! Did I go too far??? I am sure many of the super rich will be quite upset at these words, but thank god for free speech and the right to express your opinions in a democratic world.

And These Are Just The European OnesNow to the nitty gritty! Why do I write such things about the super rich? The reason is a major study has taken place, much to the dis-satisfaction of those who are the subject of it, into tax-free havens and the huge amounts of money that are squirreled away in secret bank accounts on many of these secretive off-shore hide-aways.

It may astound you to know that the wealth hidden away at the end of 2010 is equal to the size of the US and Japanese economies combined i.e. $21 TRILLION! That is 21 times 1,000 billion dollars. This far reaching investigation is the work of James Henry, a former chief economist at the consultancy McKinsey, and was carried out at the request of the Tax Justice Network.

There can be little doubt that should you have lots of money it is easy to hide it away in many of the tax havens like Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg and Monaco and the off-shore havens like The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and the Virgin Islands. The more money you have, so the more your ability to employ the right people to move it around and avoid paying taxes.

…Except About His Tax Returns!

Being an average individual with a high moral code and set of standards, I find it distasteful to say the least that those among us with the most money get away with not paying taxes on their income while the rest of us ordinary folk get bled dry to pay for their excesses. I know for sure that I could not live with myself knowing that my tax contribution would put an end to ordinary people being thrown out of their homes for not being able to pay the mortgage while I sat in my castle counting my ill-gotten gains. It is without doubt one of the greatest injustices in the world today. I can well understand why Mitt Romney doesn’t want the world to know how much tax he has paid in recent years! It’s probably a fraction of what he should have paid.

You have to look at it this way, if all these privileged people paid the taxes they are supposed to, the current financial crisis would be over in  minutes. People would be back in work, homes would be secure and everyone would know their is some justice in the world.

So I have to ask, why cannot the governments of the world come together at the United Nations and put an end to this disgrace by shutting down all these tax-free havens? If there was nowhere for these people to hide their vast fortunes they would have no choice but to start paying taxes. If they did, the tax rates everywhere could be brought down to a realistic level for all, including the rich.

It is unfair on society that the majority must pay the lion’s share of taxes so the rich can make more money! Most of these people have more than they could spend in two lifetimes, and yet they are so greedy and heartless, they stand idly by and watch as hardworking people are thrown out of their homes, quietly rubbing their hands with glee at their massed wealth.

Bill & Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett

As most readers of this blog will know, I like to be fair, and in doing so, I have to mention that some super rich people do use their money for good causes. Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft is one such person, who with his wife Melinda, formed the world’s largest transparent private foundation i.e. the Gates Foundation. It is dedicated to globally enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and in America, to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology. The billionaire Warren Buffet works with Bill and Melinda Gates, and there are other rich people who do charity work with their wealth, it’s just a shame there are not enough like them, for there are countless others who hide their money away and do everything they can to avoid the tax man. I have nothing against people getting rich, but I do balk at the idea of them doing it at the expense of everyone else.

Money, like power, has become the number one drug everyone is addicted to, and no matter how much some people have, they always want more. It is definitely time to change the rules so that all men, and women, pay their dues in today’s society. Will it happen? Not on your life because most government’s could not stand without the backing of these powerful people, and they are out to protect themselves at all costs.

OlympicsTo Be Hit By Another Strike

Posted in Britain, England, Immigration, Insurgents, UK with tags , , , on 20/07/2012 by floroy1942

What is the matter with people these days? This week, just ten days away from the grand opening of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the UK Border Agency (UKBA) workers have said they will go on strike the day before the opening. Whatever happened to national pride at a time when the UK will be the focal point of the world?

As a nation have we become so consumed by self-interest that we cannot spare a moment for the reputation of our country across the world?

There have been a number of fiasco’s recently in connection with the games, what with the security company G4S not living up to their contractual commitment meaning troops will have to fill the gap, and the UKBA recently failing in their task by allowing hundreds of thousands of people to enter the country without any proper checks. I should imagine after that particular fiasco, insurgents were surprised at how easy it was to enter the country to prepare whatever they have in store for the games.

The sheer audacity of the UKBA staff deciding to strike for 24 hrs before the games is a slap in the face for every honest and patriotic Brit. Maybe they do have some legitimate grievances like people losing their jobs and privatizing parts of the service in order to cut costs, something I might add that is desperately needed, but to hit the olympics like this is no answer. Our country can expect to see tens of millions of visitors from all across the world and the reputation of the entire country is at stake.

In the past months we have seen overland and underground rail workers, bus drivers and taxi drivers all threatening strike action during the games if their demands are not met for an olympic bonus of between £500 and £1000 just for doing their job! Its holding the country to ransom and who will be next, toilet cleaners and binmen? This whole strike scenario has been shameful, disgusting, and immoral right from the beginning. To me it is a shame that a few of these Labour Union agitators cannot be taken out and hanged in public as a lesson and a warning that British pride and patriotism will not be taken hostage at a time when the reputation of our once (sadly) great nation is at stake!!!

How Long Must The Syrian People Endure Assad?

Posted in Al Quada, America, Arab, Human Rights, Insurgents, Security Council, Terrorism, UN, United Nations with tags , , , on 14/07/2012 by floroy1942

For more than sixteen months the people have been dying on the streets of Syrian towns at the hands of a dictator who does not wish to relinquish power while the world stands by spectating. The crisis is no nearer ending than it was in the beginning, despite the useless but well-meaning intervention of Kofi Annan and his ‘Peace Plan’.

Russian Built Attack Helicopters

The plan, such as it was, never even got off the ground despite Annan’s assurances, for people are still dying daily in mortar, artillery and helicopter attacks such as we have recently seen in Tremseh in which an estimated 200 people died in a single strike. Pretty soon Assad will have no people left over which to govern, but still the world stands idly by because two countries, namely Russia and China, are more intent on protecting their interests in the country.

Apart from losing multi-billion dollar trade agreements with the Assad regime, Russia also stands to lose Tartus, its only Mediterranean port for its naval fleet. China on the other hand also stands to lose multi-billion dollar trade agreements with Syria if Assad should fall. These are reasons enough for them to stonewall any UN action to end the fighting with their veto powers at the UN.

The current veto powers of the UN top five countries (USA, Great Britain, Russia, France and China) goes back to the end of WW2, when the conquering nations agreed at the Dumbarton Oaks (August–October 1944) and Yalta (February 1945) conferences that such a move was necessary in the interests of unanimity and to protect their own interests after the bruising battles of the war.

Russian Warship

Since that time it has been used on various occasions by the five powers, normally to protect their own interests as is currently the case in Syria with Russia and China. So long as these two powers refuse to sanction moves against Assad, the world is unable to intervene with a UN military force to stop the killing.

Assad continues to blame terrorists for the troubles, and to be fair, there may be a grain of truth in that for it is certain there are elements of al Quada fighting within the country against the regime, because they probably see an opportunity to gain a foothold there from which to continue their nefarious campaign of terrorism.

Doctor Tries To Save An Injured Girl

It is however clear that Assad will not give up his power struggle unless he either wins, or the world powers step in to remove him. So the onus is back on Russia and China to get off the fence and vote for UN action against this man and his government before thousands more die.

In the past few months China has exercised its veto and otherwise remained fairly quiet, while Russia has made overtures to Assad to end the violence but the one quality missing was conviction.

There can be little doubt that something concrete must be done to stop this useless slaughter, and as I see it, the only way is to rid the United Nations of the stigma of the veto which has so often prevented proper action. Once no country has the right to prevent any UN action approved by the majority can the UN take its rightful place in the world as a leader and peacemeaker.

The Trouble With Barclay’s

Posted in America, Britain, England, Government, Modern World, UK, USA with tags , , , , on 03/07/2012 by floroy1942

What does it take these days to get a bank operating within its mandate, and in an honest and efficient way? This week revealed yet another scandal involving Barclay’s bank after the doubtful practices unearthed with many others over the past year. CEO’s have been falling like leaves in an autumn gale this last year and yet they never learn. Now the clock has finally ticked down to zero for Barclay’s, a British bank that has faithfully served the public since 1690, and resulted in a whole flurry of resignations by its top staff.

Chairman Marcus Agius – What Say You Marcus?

First to go was the Chairman Marcus Agius, followed by chief operating officer Jerry del Missier, and now the CEO Bob Diamond is quitting. Its fine to hear that those ultimately responsible are losing their jobs, but is it enough? Firstly, even though they are leaving the bank under a cloud, I am sure they will all collect substantive bonuses running into millions of pounds, and secondly, which one of them will go to jail? Not one I’ll bet!

If we ordinary citizens carried out such a massive fraud, like fixing bank lending rates in an international market, we would be hung, drawn, and quartered and thrown to the dogs! But then again, this crew have money and influence so the chances of any of them ending up in jail are infinitesimal to zero.

CEO Bob Diamond – Hang Your Head In Shame!

It is a prime indication that the current generations are obsessed by money, and even those among us who have more than we could spend in two lifetimes, are gripped by a never-ending drive to make more and more. The banks were institutions where ordinary people like you and I could put our money to be held safe until we need it, but not any more. Like most other things, it has become a money-making machine without an ‘off’ switch.

Since 1763 there have been 39 different banking crisis across the world affecting many major banks, 11 of these have happened since 2002, although if you include the current Spanish bank crisis the total is 12, and all that in just ten years! Of course everyone knows that the banks were bailed out with public money in 2008 and 2009, so why are we still having scandals hitting the banking sector. Do these people never learn!

Jerry del Missier – Explain Your Way Out Of This One!

I have to say, that if I were a Barclay’s customer I would take out every cent I have with them and put it somewhere else. I do not wish to be associated with any bank that is knowingly ‘cooking the books’ and manipulating market interest rates for their own benefit.

One Of The Oldest Structures That Once Housed Barclay’s Bank – 1872

It is past time when governments should step in with very strict controls on all banking practices and carry out regular inspections of the books to make sure they get back to following the straight and narrow. When banks play silly games they are doing it with our money and if it should go badly wrong we are the ones that lose our life savings or pensions, not them. They just collect their massive bonuses and retire. Its enough that the last person on Earth you would trust is a lawyer, but now the banks come a very close second. Enough is enough I say, and send the perpetrators of this latest scandal to jail for a good few years as a lesson to all those other shady individuals who wish to gamble with our money.
