Why Don’t Muslims Condemn The Terrorists?

Posted in Afghanistan, Al Quada, America, Arab, Islamic Revolution, Muslim, Religion, Taliban, Terrorism, United Nations with tags , , , on 25/06/2012 by floroy1942

All across the arab world insurgents are killing fellow Muslims in audacious attacks and bombings almost on a daily basis, and since the trouble began, more than ten thousand Muslim people have lost their lives in Iraq alone. Families have been devastated, communities ripped apart in countries ranging from Algeria and Afghanistan to Indonesia. I don’t know about you, but to date I haven’t heard a single word of condemnation of these terrorist acts from a single Muslim from whatever country.

Muslim groups and clerics across the globe remain silent, and even individuals suffering at the hands of these murderers refuse to come out and say “It must end!” Many learned clerics will tell you that to kill a fellow Muslim, and indeed the whole idea of insurgency, is against the teaching of the Prophet Mohammed because Islam is a religion of peace. Yet groups like al Quada and the Taliban have been creating mayhem across the world for decades and only the Taliban seem to have a specific goal in mind. It is clear they wish to be in control of Afghanistan once again, but al Quada?

Originally they wanted to attack the infidels in the west, particularly the United States which they did on 9/11, but after their later attacks on London and Madrid all their atrocities have been against fellow Muslims in one country or another. Currently it is pretty certain they are involved in the Syrian uprising and are stoking the flames as hard as they can, whether this is to gain some political influence in the country, or they just see it as an excuse to go on killing is anyone’s guess. Whatever the reason, I wonder why the arab people still continue to support these killers.

It may not always be active support, although they get enough of that, but just the fact they accept losing a wife, husband or child to an al Quada or Taliban bomb and say and do nothing is amazing. I am sure that should such occurrences take place in our part of the world the people would be up in arms and the perpetrators would have no-where to hide. Not only that, but the law would come down hard on such people and the police would go to any lengths to apprehend the suspect/s. There is little doubt that western people would never tolerate indiscriminate killing on such a scale as is seen in arab countries. The Norwegian Andrei Brevik saga and many of the shootings in the USA are a good case in point.

I have tried to understand what it is that makes Muslims world-wide accept these random acts of terror in which so many of their own are killed, but to be honest I cannot find the answer.

Could it be the fear factor? Is it possible that Muslims the world over are too frightened to condemn the activities of radical insurgents for fear of reprisals? I find this hard to believe considering that 23% of the world population is Muslim, which equates to over 1.6 billion people. With such large numbers the insurgents would not stand a chance.

As A Muslim Do You Condone This?

Perhaps it’s a religious thing, with all Muslims believing that non-Muslims are a sub species and should be eradicated, the favourite message of the radicals. No, that too is unlikely as most seem content to live side-by-side with Christians, Buddhists, Hindu’s and the like. The only exception that could carry any weight is perhaps Judaism, for the hatred between Israel and the arab world goes back centuries.

Maybe it is an arab tribal thing, Sunni’s against Shiites and vice versa? This is much more likely for it is well known that many arab countries are ruled by one side while the other forms a large majority in the country. We have seen trouble in Bahrain where the Shiite majority has risen up against the ruling Sunni regime, and the opposite has happened in other countries.

This does not fully explain the troubles in Iraq however, for while some terrorist attacks fall without doubt into the ‘tribal war’ bracket, others are purported to be against the foreign occupiers of the land, i.e. the Coalition Forces, and particularly the United States. Within Iraq the lines between the two are certainly blurred, for whatever target the insurgents choose, they always seem to kill far more of their own than the ‘occupiers’.

Terror Escalation In Afghanistan

Afghanistan is another different scenario, and is much more straight-forward. Here it is the intention of the Taliban to once more rule the country with the iron fist, as they did from 1996 to 2001. They were ousted by a UN invasion force in 2001 during the ‘War on Terror’, for giving safe haven to the terrorist group al Quada and its leader bin Laden. Since that time a ceaseless struggle has continued between Coalition Forces and the Taliban for control of the country.

Initially, all attacks by the Taliban were against Coalition Forces, but over the last eighteen months or so there has been a subtle change in tactics, and now more than ever the targets are innocent civilians. What they hope to gain by killing their own people in such numbers is unfathomable, but the surprising thing is, no-one complains!

The same is true in Pakistan, a country that seems incapable of making up its mind which side its on. The Pakistan military made a half-hearted attempt to oust the Taliban and al Quada from its border areas, then tried to make peace with them, but now there are regular indiscriminate bombing in the cities where innocent civilians are blown to pieces.

More Taliban Victims

Despite all the Muslim casualties from all over the world, I have never heard a word of condemnation for this mindless, indiscriminate killing by Muslim radical groups, and that puzzles me. All moderate Muslim groups, religious figures and Heads of State remain silent and the killing goes on unchecked.

I hope that somewhere out there a Muslim is reading this and can perhaps clarify this strange situation for me, because I have to admit, it leaves me baffled ,and I know I am not the only one for much of western civilization is asking the same question.

Stand Up For Your Country!

Posted in Benefits, Britain, David Cameron, England, Free Speech, Government, Immigration, Parliament, UK with tags , on 22/06/2012 by floroy1942

I received this in the e-mail today and considered it important enough to post here. With all the changes that have been made over the past two decades, it is clear that a current of discontent is beginning as the people of the United Kingdom finally wake up to the menace from within.

Ever since Tony Blair and his band of crooks destroyed what is left of the British culture and traditions by means well known to everybody, David Cameron has as yet failed to address any of these concerns. People are becoming more disillusioned with the erosion of British culture, traditions and pride as we, and in particular, the politicians hand more and more power over to the immigrant population.

For example, the social services bill for immigrants is draining away precious resources that are required for those born and bred Brits who cannot survive. Why should an old lady choose between food or keeping warm in the winter?

I send on this message in the hope it will once again raise the patriotic spirit that made our country great in years past. It’s time to stand up and be counted, so put a Union Jack outside your house and let the world see you are proud to be British!

Show the Flag – Be Proud Again

“I am the government’s Worst Nightmare.  I am a White,  Tax-Paying, God fearing British man.  I am a hard working Brit and I work long hours to earn a living.

I  believe in God and the freedom of religion, but I don’t push it on others.  I believe in British products and buy them whenever I can.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and not to some governmental functionary, to share with others who don’t work!

I think owning a home doesn’t make you a  capitalist; it makes you a smart Brit.  I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything.  Get over it.  Join in with the majority!

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, you should do it in English.  I believe there should be no other language option.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to.
I am proudly ‘Queen and Country’ – my heroes are fellow Brits like Freddie Flintoff and Winston Churchill and there are others.

I don’t hate the rich. What I hate is the way they always manage to avoid paying proper taxes.

I don’t pity the  poor, I just hate the way they are always moaning that they are hard done by!!

I know wrestling is fake and I don’t waste my time watching or arguing about it.

I believe if you don’t like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country!

This is ENGLAND…..We like it the way it is and even  more so the way it was…so stop trying to change it to look like some other socialist country!   If you were born or legally migrated here and don’t like it… you are free to move to any Socialist  country that will have you.  I believe it is time to really clean house, starting with the House of Commons, the seat of our biggest problems.

I want to know  where the “Do Gooders” get their money from, and why are they always part of the problem and not the solution?
Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I also think the cops have the right to pull you over if you’re breaking the law, regardless of what race, colour or creed you are.

And, no, I don’t mind having my face shown on my driving licence.  I think it’s good….

I dislike those people trying to guilt me into making ‘donations’ to their cause….Get a job and support yourself and your family!

I believe ‘illegal’ is illegal no matter what the lawyers think!

I believe the Union Jack flag should be allowed to be flown anywhere in the United Kingdom !

If this makes me a BAD Brit, then yes, I’m a BAD Brit – and actually happy about that.  If you are a BAD Brit too, please forward this to everyone you know….

We want our country back!   My Country….. and your country

I hope this offends all illegal aliens.

My great, great grandfather watched as his friends died in the Boer War.  My grandfather watched and bled as his friends died in World Wars 1&2.  I knew friends who died for our country in The Falklands, Sierra Leone , Bosnia , & Desert Storm.  Our sons and daughters watched & bled as their friends died in Afghanistan and Iraq .
None of them died for the Afghanistan and Iraq Flag.  Every Briton died for the British flag.

At one high school, foreign students raised a Middle East flag on a school flag pole.  British students took it down. Guess who was expelled…the students who took it down…..this is outrageous – makes my blood boil.

West London high school students were sent home, because they wore T-shirts with the Union Jack flag printed on them.

What is going on??   What wet, insipid, nappy wearing idiots do we have in authority??   Enough is enough.

This message needs to be viewed by every Brit; and every Briton needs to stand up for Britain. We’ve bent over to appease the Brit-haters long enough. Time to take a stand.

I’m standing up because of the millions who died fighting in wars for this country, and for the British flag.

And shame on anyone who tries to make this a racist message.  IT IS NOT !

Britons, stop giving away Your RIGHTS !

This statement DOES NOT mean I’m against immigration !

YOU ARE WELCOME HERE, IN MY COUNTRY, welcome to come legally:

1. Get a sponsor  !
2. Learn the LANGUAGE, as immigrants have in the past!
3. Live by OUR rules !   Dress as we Britons Do
4. Get a job !
5. Pay YOUR Taxes !
6. No Social Security until you have earned it and paid for it !
7. Find a place to lay your head !

If you don’t want to forward this for fear of offending someone, then YOU’RE PART OF THE PROBLEM  !

We’ve gone so far the other way… bent over backwards not to offend anyone.

If you do not Pass this on, may your fingers cramp !

My thanks to the unknown author.

What’s The Point Of The Rio+20 Environment Conference?

Posted in America, Britain, Environment, Forests, Oceans, Pacific, Plastic Rubbish, UN, United Nations with tags , , , , on 22/06/2012 by floroy1942

Why are so many world leaders gathering in Rio de Janeiro if they knew beforehand that it will accomplish nothing? The run-up to the conference has been splashed across the news for the past week, and any fool who imagined something useful would come out of it will be disappointed. I, like most other people, thought it a waste of time and that nothing would be achieved. We are not wrong!

Jaw Flapping and Empty Promises

When leaders get together in this fashion to discuss something as important as the future of mankind on this planet of ours, all we get is jaw flapping and empty promises.  The United Nations Environmental Programme (UNep) has a team of very gifted scientists who warned prior to the conference that humanity may be heading for a ‘tipping point’ which will become ‘irreversible’. That is to say, we are currently doing so much damage to our environment and the planet’s biodiversity, that we will soon reach a point where the damage cannot be undone.

Despite all the empty promises made by governments during the last twenty years of the conference, improvements have been made on only four issues like green house gases and the ozone layer, while the rest, which include the phasing out of fossil fuel subsidies, preservation measures for the world’s oceans and seas, safeguarding the world-wide fresh water supplies and over-population are still awaiting any concrete proposals after twenty years.

Brazilian President

It is without doubt ironic that this years conference is being held in Rio, situated in a country that is doing more than any other to contribute to the devastating storms, floods and drought being experienced in the western hemisphere by decimating the Brazilian rain forest.

The Amazon, the largest rain forest on the planet, is steadily being burnt and hacked away, and at the current rate will be a shadow of its former self in just a decade or two. The world’s oceans are rapidly becoming a cesspool of discarded plastic and rubbish, and the fish stocks are being decimated without being given time to recover. Fairly soon water shortages in many countries will become so acute, as to cause mass migration to areas more capable of sustaining human life. This in itself will cause major upheaval across the world.

Another problem such conferences fail to discuss is the steadily climbing over-population in the world. China is the only country that has imposed limits on how many children a married couple may have in order to stem the booming population growth, and that was enacted in 1978.

Population Growth

India is another nation with an unsustainable population growth, but is doing nothing to address the problem. Within a couple of decades we will surely see many other countries enforcing a similar rule to that of China, for population growth is expanding like a runaway train, and pretty soon the Earth will simply not be able to sustain that level of life.

Biodiversity is also being hit hard, and soon we will begin to see the effects of our carelessness as more and more species of plants, insects and animals disappear for ever.

But can we expect governments to address these problems comprehensively, not on your life! As an example let me use the oil producing countries and the oil industry. They refuse to even hear about removing the subsidies on fossil fuels – why? Because the former will sell less oil and the latter will make less profit!

The World’s Plastic Islands

Knowing full well about the country-sized gyres that have become floating islands of discarded plastic in all our oceans, does any government look to ban a simple thing like the plastic bag – No? Why? – Because it is being blocked by the plastic industry.

The Brazilian government has the power to stop illegal loggers and farmers devastating the forest with their activities, but do they do it – no! Why? – Because there’s money in it.

Biodiversity Loss

Why don’t the fishing nations crack down on illegal fishing and declare far more areas of our oceans protected in order to allow the fish stocks to recover? Why are the Japanese still allowed to ignore the ban on hunting whales with the laughable excuse that ‘its for research’?

We all need to put some serious thought into these problems and force governments to take positive action to save the planet, for if the scientists are correct, we have a very small window of opportunity to act before its too late.

Why A Spanish Banking Crisis?

Posted in Europe, Government, Insanity, Modern World, Spain with tags , , , , on 18/06/2012 by floroy1942

More than enough people have been asking why and how the Spanish banks got in to such a state that they needed another bailout. Well, I can tell you from personal experience that one of the reasons is massive inefficiency.

My wife and I had cause to go to the S……… bank in Marbella to send money to a friend in Romania, and I was appalled at the sheer inefficiency of the service. If you wish to send money outside the country to someone who does not have a bank account of their own, you can only do it from certain banks, and then only if you have an account with them. In our town the only one that would do it without us having an account is the one ‘mentioned’.

We regularly send money to Romania, but to do it I have to show my passport and give them the special code of the place where the money is to be sent, one of the most popular being a Western Union office. A couple of years ago my details were entered into the banks computer and we made the transfer. Last year I had to renew my passport, but instead of just being able to update my information I found they had deleted it all. So with the new passport I had to start from scratch, meaning we had the approval process of one month to go through again. More time wasted. This finally worked for a short time, but when we went back last month they couldn’t find me in their computer again.

We were told that once they had sorted out the problem they would give me a call and we could make the transfer. Guess what? After a month we still didn’t get a call (surprise! surprise!). So off we trotted to the bank again to find out what the hell was going on. After waiting a considerable time, we got to talk to the lady who took another fifteen minutes to find my data, check my documents again and finally fill in the transfer form.

By this time a queue of at least twenty-five people had built up behind us at the cash desk, but we were told we would have to wait in line. If the service had been even adequate, she could have taken the money and we would have been out of there. Instead we spent another thirty-five minutes waiting in the cashier line. There were three positions but only two were manned and the cashiers themselves seemed to know only two speeds, dead slow and stop!  Finally a young man opened up the third desk and things moved to just above a snail’s pace.

To cut this short, it was a very frustrating hour and fifteen minutes waiting around at the whim of a bank that doesn’t have a clue on what the word efficiency means. The money clutched in my hot sweaty little hand waiting to be sent was my money, and on top of that I had the €3 admin fee in my hand as well, so if I am taking my money into the bank, paying their expenses for doing the transfer, why am I given so much hassle???  With most banks, why can I only do if I have an account with them?

I am sure that most people will not believe this but it is a verifiable fact that Spain has 109 different banks, only 9 of which are inter/national. This means that there are 100 regional and spanish city banks. The UK for example has only 9 banks, while France has 24, and these figures include regional banks that come under the main banking groups.

In Spain however, the 109 are independent banks all trying to make money from the Spanish people. Personally I fail to see how such a system has developed, because it seems that apart from the regional banks, cities like Seville, Malaga and San Sebastian all have their own local banks, but it goes down to town level too. To a foreigner it is without doubt a chaotic system especially when you consider that many of the smaller banks do not provide a full banking service at all.

One thing we all need to remember is that the Spanish way of doing things is to say the least, chaotic. The banks in Spain cry about their ‘toxic debts’ and cite that as the reason for the banking crisis. True, there is a massive slump in house purchases and many economic problems over the last three years, but their attitude to solving them is crazy to say the least.

Families who bought property during the ‘good old years’ are being thrown out on the street because they can no longer keep up with their mortgage payments. When this happens the house is repossessed by the banks and is added to the massive number of houses that cannot be sold (currently estimated at 215,000) because no-one can afford them. Surely it makes more sense for these people to stay put and pay off their mortgage at a reduced rate until things get better. In this way at least the banks would have some form of income from their holdings instead of the property standing empty with no-one wanting to buy, and thereby generating no income whatsoever. In our area alone there are places that have been repossessed and are still waiting to be sold after three years.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Spain is sinking deeper and deeper into crisis and how they are going to extract themselves is still a mystery. It will not change until someone in the government decides that the lazy individuals in the country need to get up off their asses and start working efficiently. Government, local council offices and the law all need a swift kick up the backside and some rapid instruction on how to do things in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Otherwise, I see more dark clouds on the horizon. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great country and most of the people are great, but the leadership and know-how needs to come from the top. For decades this has not been happening because most of those in charge are too busy lining their own pockets. Come on Spain – Get off your backside and start marching forward!

First Essential Change To The British Education System?

Posted in Britain, Children, England, English Schools, Europe, Parenting, Primary Education, Teens, UK with tags , on 10/06/2012 by floroy1942

Finally, it appears the government is implementing mandatory foreign languages lessons into the primary school national curriculum in Britain. For many decades the British people have been way behind the rest of Europe in learning languages, and maybe that is because of the “everyone abroad speaks English so why bother” syndrome, or just plain laziness. Either way its a national scandal that the British make little or no effort to learn the languages of our European partners.

For many decades, countries like Germany, Holland, Denmark and many others have taught English as part of the national curriculum, and that is to their credit, so I have been surprised that successive governments in the UK have not followed suit.

Finally On The Right Track

In an age where people can travel all over Europe, or even the world on holiday at least, learning a foreign language or two is essential. For this reason, I for one welcome the change that is being initiated by David Cameron and his government. Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, has said that primary schools could offer lessons in Mandarin, Latin and Greek, as well as French, German and Spanish from September 2014.

While I applaud the basic idea, I am afraid I cannot see the point in teaching Mandarin, Latin or Greek. You will only use Mandarin if you travel to China and one or two other Far Eastern countries, or wish to order a meal in a Chinese restaurant. Latin would only be useful if you enter the medical or science professions. French, German and Spanish are by far the most useful languages for all children to learn. You know the old saying: “Use it or lose it” and that is  very fair statement. The chances of the average UK child using Mandarin and Latin are infinitesimal while Greek may be used on holiday, although outside Greece no-one speaks it. French, German and Spanish are by far the better alternatives.

Another improvement is the testing of children’s spelling, grammar and punctuation, which again is an essential move. With more and more people these days relying on computer ‘spell-checkers’, it becomes rapidly apparent that such a move is necessary.  You only have to read some of the comments sent in by people to internet news pages to realize that the situation is becoming deplorable.

English Primary School

Unfortunately, this last move is being strongly opposed by head teachers who say “The tests are a waste of taxpayer’s money”. Poppycock!!! The general opinion among teachers seems to be that the assessment and testing of children on these subjects is best left to them. Sorry, but the evidence of the past few decades couldn’t indicate more strongly that the entire education system in England and Wales has been failing the young catastrophically. Some of the fault lies with the previous government, but the teachers must bear a large portion of the blame for the falling standards. The evidence speaks for itself when an estimated 4 out of every 5 youngsters these days cannot read or write English properly.

Milton Keynes head teacher Tony Draper is reported to have said, “It will lead to further narrowing of the curriculum, teaching to the tests and increased misery for our year six students and their families already sick of a diet of practice SATs and drills”.  He continued, “Trust us to assess all our children’s writing this year and every year or we will not cooperate with any future tests”.

The Dreaded SATS Test

From this statement I conclude that the entire teaching method is totally wrong, which is probably why children, and parents end up so confused by it all.

You don’t ‘teach to the test’ for anything, it should be an integral part of learning from day one. Teachers should be checking their pupil’s submissions every day in all aspects, not just the basic issue. Spelling, grammar and punctuation should all be taught from the first moment their pencil touches the paper, not come 6 months or 1 year later. There is a big difference between teaching pupils to ‘get through a test’ and giving them a proper education! When I was in school (hrrumph) years ago, that is how I was taught, e.g. at the end of a sentence you put a full stop, not, don’t bother with that we’ll cover full stops next term!!!

But here we are today, with a nation of semi-literate young adults and children, and no-one is ready to admit that the education system is deeply flawed. Still the teaching profession will not bow down to superior teaching methods that have stood the test of time, and produced some of the world’s brightest brains. If today’s teachers knew even half of what a teacher of my day knew of his subject, education would take a major step forward, but today its more a case of the blind leading the blind! Its a pity more parents don’t see this and demand action!

And Still The Greeks Avoid Taxes!

Posted in Budget Cuts, Europe, Government Spending, Modern World with tags , , , , , , on 08/06/2012 by floroy1942

It would seem some people never learn, for even when they end up to their necks in the mire through their own stupidity and greed, and with their country on the verge of total bankruptcy, they continue to make the same mistakes. I am of course referring to the Greek habit of not paying their taxes, which is the main cause for the massive debt they are now suffering.

In my 23/10/2011 post The Shocking Truth Behind the Greek Debt, I explained why the Greek people ended up in a crisis that has shaken the very foundations of Europe, and yet the latest news is that nothing has changed.

She Tells It As It Is!

It bugs me somewhat to think that the Greek people were very angry at the remark made by IMF head Christine Lagarde when she said the Greeks were avoiding paying taxes. Indignation was rife and she received many angry complaints, but the simple truth is – she spoke the truth!

For decades, very few people in Greek society have paid the level of taxes they should, in fact the rich have not paid any at all, and the latest estimate is that the country will run out of money completely by the end of July!

An Economy Based On Deceit

Government officials are now scrambling for ideas in an effort to collect taxes from people, but some just haven’t got the money, and many businesses are using ‘cash only’ methods in an effort to forestall paying taxes on their income. Despite the recent bailout of 130 billion, the government still faces a shortfall of 1.7 billion because tax revenue and other sources of potential income cannot be collected.  Nikos Maitos, an official in Greece’s financial crimes investigation unit said, “One repercussion of the crisis is that people are harder to find, and when you do find them, they don’t have money.” Harry Theoharis, a senior official in the Greek Finance Ministry is quoted as saying, “You can’t flog a dead horse”.

The government has stated that it is owed a total of €45 billion in back taxes and the outlook is that only a fraction of that will ever be recovered.

Paperwork Chaos

According to reports, the Greek government has begun enforcing a 1995 law that allows tax inspectors access to the bank accounts of suspected tax evaders. The banks however have so far obstructed 5,000 requests for information since 2010, and are delaying the hand-over of other documents by up to 10 months, and then dumping such a huge pile onto the tax department that trying to get the necessary information is next to impossible. So, you see, considering the whole European financial mess started with the banks in  2008, they too have not learnt any lessons in Greece.

To add to the country’s woes, the rich are moving their capital out of the country as fast as they can, for they too are ducking paying tax on the largest proportion of their wealth, which is a bit sick considering before the current crisis they never paid any at all!

The Underground ‘Honesty’ Barrier

Among the people there is anger that salaries have been cut by as much as 50% due to the austerity measures, but if you read my last post on the subject, you will realise that the salaries earned before the crisis were out of all proportion with the rest of the world. Cleaners employed by the Greek Rail Company earning €60,000 a year, and on top of that, no-one buys a subway ticket in Athens because there are no controls, meaning millions travel for free every month.

Any country run on these lines is doomed to irrevocable failure, and from all accounts, the crunch is going to come soon. The sad thing is, when it does come it will likely drag the rest of the continent down with it, and eventually we will all suffer. Whether the Euro will survive this is without doubt questionable. Greed will eventually be the undoing of man!

Time For A New Chapter In American Presidential Elections?

Posted in Afghanistan, America, Britain, Elections, England, Government, Obama with tags , , , on 02/06/2012 by floroy1942

It seems the American political system is desperately in need of a major overhaul, judging from all the presidential elections I have witnessed over the years. As someone who loosely follows these campaigns for the White House hot seat, I have to say that from my perspective I am tired of the mud-slinging that all candidates have indulged in over the past few years. If a candidate cannot be chosen on his merits then the rest is all wind.

As a voter I would be more interested in what policies the candidates have for the country, and not what skeletons they have hidden in the closet. But that is all that seems to count these days, what with Romney and Obama digging into the past of the other and trying to find something dirty.

This sort of tactic has been employed to greater or lesser degree since the election of Ronald Reagan at least, and if I were an American citizen I would be totally fed up with it by now. Certainly in the last two elections the tempo seems to have ‘hotted up’ as to be white hot.

When a Presidential candidate comes to my town I would like to hear what he is going to do to help solve the problems that abound in today’s society, both domestic and foreign, not that the other guy gave millions to some now defunct solar company. I don’t want to hear that so and so was a bully in school or cast doubt on the legitimacy of the current President as a an American citizen.

What is the matter with people that they can’t get enough of this mud-slinging, for it seems to me that the one who wins is he who has they least amount of mud clinging to them on the final day. That is not the way to choose a leader for the next four years or even the next four hours. I know its an important office, but why does a campaign have to take a whole year. I would be tired of the constant campaigning if I were an American. Three months seems to me like a long time.

Whoever becomes the next President will have tough decisions to make, perhaps on a daily basis. He will control one of the world’s foremost armed forces and be required to make the correct assessment of situations that can have world-wide implications. Hell, he can even start a nuclear holocaust that could put the continued existence of mankind in doubt.

As an American, would you want someone with questionable ethics or courage with their finger on the button? I sure as well wouldn’t!

So as an adult, I find it somewhat childish to go in for this petty name-calling and dirt-digging that plays such a big part in campaigns today. It has gotten out of all proportion and its time candidates paid more attention to laying out their policies for easing the suffering that everyone (except the rich) are going through in these troubled times.

To me, it seems people should want to know what a future President will do about getting health care for every American citizen, and generating  jobs for those that do not have them. High on the agenda should also be sorting out the countries deficit, solving the problems in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine, and bringing pressure to bear on countries like Brazil and Indonesia to save the rain forests. To be honest, I would think this last should be high on the agenda considering the massive increase in tornado’s and hurricanes in America over the last ten years.

In all honesty I have to say that the same attitude is creeping into British politics of late, and it is a trend that does not bode well for our country.

When will politicians learn that they need to ‘come clean’ during their election campaigns and stop telling lies and sowing deceit just to get elected. For it is an ever increasing trend that they will tell the electorate what they want to hear to get elected, but as soon as they are, all the promises are like dust in the wind. It is time they realized that they are entrusted with leading their country forward and solving problems that crop up along the way, not to sit in their ivory tower and view the world through rose-tinted glasses while they line their pockets at the people’s expense.
