Will The Americans Ever Learn?

Posted in Afghanistan, America, Insurgents, Islamic Revolution, Muslim, Obama, President, Taliban, Terrorism, USA with tags , , , , on 22/02/2012 by floroy1942

Once again we have a furor of hatred against the American forces in Afghanistan caused by desecration of the Koran. Once again people have died because American troops failed to heed the warnings of the past.

Bagram Air Base Afghanistan

This time it seems that copies of the Muslim holy book were thrown into the garbage ‘by mistake’ and burned by unthinking idiots at Bagram air base. Naturally the desecration was discovered by Afghan civilians working at the dump and, once again, all hell has broken loose. To date six people have died and scores wounded in protests across the country at this action that can only be classified as crass stupidity. One would have thought the military commanders should have learnt from the previous occasion when riots broke out in response to a similar action by the idiot Pastor Terry Jones of Florida in 2010. But no, they make the same mistake all over again.

Muslim Rage At Bagram

When people in the command structure don’t take notice of Muslim hysteria at the burning or otherwise desecration of the Koran its no wonder the Afghan people hate them so much. The danger of course is they are driving more recruits into the arms of the Taliban by such thoughtless acts. One protester in Kabul told Reuters: “When the Americans insult us to this degree, we will join the insurgents.” You have to ask how many more are of this frame of mind, and its for sure the Taliban will use this in their propaganda war against American forces.

It makes no matter what you do to win the hearts and minds of the people, if you continue to make these serious errors in judgement it all goes down the toilet.

Mass Protest

Wake up America! You may be doing a lot of good in the world, but thoughtless acts such as this are making you the most hated country on earth in the Middle East. You can apologise to the people until hell freezes over but it won’t make a jot of difference to how the Muslim people see you. You have been in the Middle East more than long enough to understand the paranoia of the Muslim mind, especially when it comes to their religion, and yet you continue with such actions. It may have been a mistake, but a bigger one I have yet to see.

The Holy Koran

It seems to me the Pentagon perhaps needs to issue a General Order to all American troops to keep their hands off the Koran in all its forms, for a third mistake of this gravity could be sufficient to turn every man, woman and child in the whole arab world against you. Perhaps it is also time to make an example of a senior commander as a way to impress upon others the seriousness of such a rash act.

Without a doubt, this thoughtless act will remain in the minds of Muslims for a very long time, and there is no guarantee they will ever forget. I for one just hope this thoughtlessness does not cost American lives. Remember the words of Napoleon Bonaparte: “Those who ignore the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them”! Words to live by.

Health and Safety Causes Another Needless Death

Posted in Britain, Conservative Party, England, Human Rights, Insanity, Parliament, Political Correctness, UK with tags , , , on 22/02/2012 by floroy1942

I was profoundly shocked to read today that a British fireman refused to go in a pond three feet deep (90cm) to rescue a drowning man because he was only trained to go into water ankle deep! His excuse; Health and Safety Regulations!

R.I.P Simon Burgess - A Life Needlessly Lost

Simon Burgess aged 41 appeared regularly at the model boating lake in Walpole Park, Gosport, England to feed the swans that gathered there. On the day in question he apparently fell into the water suffering from an epileptic fit. He was seen by a 53 year-old woman who called 999 (the UK emergency number), and when firemen arrived at the scene Mr. Burgess was floating face down in the lake.

After the Recovery

On arrival, they refused to enter the water to rescue the poor man because in accordance with Health and Safety Regulations (HSR), they were not trained to go into water above ankle deep. According to the pathologist, Mr. Burgess could very well have been resuscitated at this point. For the man to be rescued from the three foot deep lake a specialist team was required that had been trained to enter water chest deep. At this point a policeman tried to enter the water to get the man out but was restrained and told it was against the HSR. Needless to say, by the time these idiots had got their act together the poor man was dead. Personally, even though I am 69 years old, I would have gone in and rescued the poor man, and to hell with firemen and their H&S Regulations!

Gosport Fire Station - Hang Your Heads In Shame

When interviewed later, Tony Nicholls, a watch manager at Gosport fire station who was first to arrive stated: “The officers were trained to go into ankle deep water, which is level one, so we waited for level two officers, who can go into chest high water. One of the police officers told me he would like to go in the water and I advised him in the strongest terms not to.” Tim Spencer-Peet, Mr Nicholls’s superior said he fully concurred with the action taken by his men. Now if this isn’t a scandal of the highest order I don’t know what is. I can well imagine that pretty soon firemen will refuse to attend a fire because H&S says they may have a traffic accident whilst underway to the fire!

Back When Firemen Were Real Heroes!

But for now we have to accept that once again, a life is needlessly lost because of the stupidity of the current H&S regulations. It is beyond doubt that we have reached a point where the government needs to get these laws into perspective, and stop all this nonsense before people like the fire brigade become totally out of touch with reality. I am pretty sure that many of the dead heroes from yesteryear must be turning in their grave at the sheer cowardice of today’s emergency services. Many of them died in acts of unsurpassable bravery to help people trapped in burning buildings. All members of the Gosport Fire Brigade should hang their heads in shame!

Top Fashion Designer Lets Loose on British Dress Sense

Posted in America, Britain, England, Europe, Modern World, Teens, UK, USA with tags , , , , , on 21/02/2012 by floroy1942

Vivienne Westwood, one of Britain’s top dress designers, has left little doubt on her opinion of British dress sense, or rather lack of it! Commenting on the current sense of style of people in Britain she was quite open in saying “people have never looked so ugly”. In all honesty, I have to admit she is right, and its not just a recent phenomenon.

Wind – A Young Man’s Best Ally

At my age, I have been able to watch the changes in fashion over the past fifty years, and I must admit to feeling somewhat disenchanted over the last two decades. I have seen the wonderful madness of the miniskirt which set the pulse racing of many young males, and I have seen jeans become the number one fashion item. From there we entered the T shirt era which eventually degenerated into the period of the football shirt and track suit trousers, usually, but not specifically among males.

When I do any comparison between the fifties, sixties and today, it becomes rapidly clear that we as a nation are falling far short of the required dress sense. At one time, jeans and a T shirt were what you wore when relaxing at home or working in the garden, but today people wear such attire when they go out shopping, to dinner, the cinema or abroad on holiday. Even when people dress for the occasion, the fashions are so ‘off-the-wall’ as to be ridiculous.

Yeuk!

Many young girls today need to show as much of their belly as possible, i.e. from boob holder all the way down to their fanny, and when you couple that with quite often, a protruding belly, it looks ridiculous. The fatter they are the more they want to show. Teenagers seem to think its ‘cool’ to have the waistline of their jeans or trousers hanging just above their genital area, with the crotch of the jeans hanging down around the knees. It looks stupid!

The following is grotesque but you see it everywhere!

How Does He Keep Them Up?

Many young men dress as though they are about to start a shift  at the coal mine in T shirt and baggy jeans. I saw a young man in his early twenties the other day who looked as if he’d been dragged through a rubbish tip. There was so much flared jean material at his ankles his feet were totally invisible, and he had long tassels hanging from a series of pockets on the legs. He was accompanied by a girl in impossibly tight jeans with a miniscule top and fat belly. Definite pantomime material.

Some teenagers take it to the limit!

The main gripe of Vivienne Westwood was the current trend for ‘throw-away’ clothes that seem to infest the ‘designer’ shops like a plague. She blamed for our lack of taste “the rise of cheap “disposable” clothes that curb individuality” and added “that the only well dressed women are usually in their 70s, because they know how to choose investment pieces”. In today’s economic climate, is it not better to buy something you can wear many times, rather than the not so cheap option of one wear items.

Cheap and Nasty

Most people today find it necessary to wear designer clothes as if its a badge of acceptance. From what I have seen when out shopping with my wife, most of the clothes for sale in these outlets are trash. They are flashy in the extreme and don’t last five minutes before something goes wrong with them, and as for washing and re-wearing, forget it. One wash and you might as well line the dog basket with them. In my opinion these designer shops are the biggest ripoff on the high street, after the cosmetic shops that is!

When many of our ‘delicate’ young teenage girls go out to a disco they wear dresses etc from the designer shops and to be honest, they look ‘tarty’. Many of the popular fashion items for young girls these days look identical to the flashy, and often skimpy, items favoured by tarts so many years ago.

The Jeans Trend

Even the style of a simple garment like jeans has changed over the years. When they first became popular, people discovered the practicality of hard-wearing trousers and  wore blue jeans that looked new, but soon that was not good enough for the young. They had to have them looking like that had been discarded by a quarry worker after ten years of continuous service.

They Look Like Something the Rubbish Collector Turned His Nose Up At!

Blue jeans were no good any more, they had to have bare patches and be cut open at a variety of places. Pretty soon it got to the stage where the only way jeans manufacturers could sell their product, was to put every pair under the grindstone and slash them with razors. To put it another way, fashion dictated that jeans had to look like they had been worn by a cowboy from the 1880’s for sixty years.

Bangladesh Sweatshop

In the words of Miss Westwood “the demise of fashion comes from the rise of a new generation of shoppers who look to fast-fashion superstores selling on-trend clothes at cheap prices”. In other words, cheap trash from designer outlets, although I have to say, I don’t find anything cheap about these stores as most of their goods are grossly over-priced when you consider the quality. The only ‘cheap’ part of the equation comes from their manufacture, because they are all made in sweatshops in places like China, Thailand and Bangladesh, where they are churned out by the thousand at absolute minimum cost and then shipped to Europe and American to be sold at outrageous prices.

No red-blooded man (even me) would object to a pretty young teenager showing off a little more than normal!

Typical ‘Well-Dressed’ Brit

From my own point of view, my wife wanted me to buy some new trousers at some designer outlet, I forget which, and I must admit they looked good in the shop. The first time I wore them, it turned out the material was a magnet for every bit of fluff and dust in the atmosphere and after half an hour looked like I had walked through the factory of a cotton manufacturer (airborne cotton dust). Needless to say, I never wore them again. That was over a €120 wasted!

Trend Among Many Teens

So yes! I can agree with Miss Westwood in every sense of the word. Today, in general, many British people have lost all sense of taste when it comes to dressing. Up to the sixties everyone was well dressed when they went out, even just to do shopping but now, sadly, the most common sight on the high street is a baggy T shirt, a pair of trainer trousers or tatty jeans and the inevitable trainers. Perhaps you won’t believe this, but one evening I actually saw a man in his twenties dressed in a nice suit, shirt and tie obviously headed for a party or on a date, and guess what he had on his feet? Trainers, that’s what! The mind boggles.

People have lost their sense of direction when it comes to looking good, and most of the blame must be laid at the feet of modern dress designers who set the fashion, and retail outlets who continually dump their trash on the main street. For dress sense to change we need a major shift in emphasis, firstly by the designers and then by the high street. Until that day dawns, or people become more discerning in what they buy, things will never get better.

You Are Sharing More Than You Think On Social Networks

Posted in America, Britain, England, Europe, Human Rights, Mobile Phone, Relationships, Teens, UK, USA with tags , , , , , , , on 16/02/2012 by floroy1942

” My dog just crapped on the carpet” or “I woke up with a hangover this morning” are some of the ludicrous messages people share with the world on Facebook or Twitter, and to be honest, who the hell cares! Internet social sites have become a disease in today’s fast-moving world, and few people seem to be immune. But unknown to most, there are dangers in broadcasting to the world your daily life.

It has been revealed that most of these sites harvest your  personal information such as your entire address book, complete with names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses without your knowledge. This seems to me a grievous violation of your civil right to privacy. To put it simply, download e.g. the Facebook or Twitter App on your phone, and the company has access to your private data, much of which it stores without your knowledge and consent.

This invasion of privacy is not confined to any one site, but seems to be a universal practice with most, if not all of them. The main culprit seems to be the “Find Friends’ apps that can be downloaded from phone manufacturers like Apple. This company has been criticised by two US Senators who have written to the company asking why this is allowed, considering it is against Apple’s own rules. Company guidelines state:  “Apps that read or write data outside its designated container area will be rejected.” They add: “Apps cannot transmit data about a user without obtaining the user’s prior permission.” Yea Right!

The excuse used by companies that feature this App say they only use the data to identify friends of the people using the service. Of course, ‘I am sure none of this information gets into the hands of advertising companies who want to send you ads all day long, and most certainly wouldn’t be used for market research’!

Twitter tells users that it “may customize your account with information such as a cellphone number for the delivery of SMS messages or your address book so that we can help you find Twitter users you know” and they inform iPhone users that they will “scan (?) your contacts for people you already know on Twitter”. Right! In today’s high pressure world I find it hard to imagine that is all they do for there is a lot of money to be made selling people’s contact data to advertisers and market research companies.

Are You Sure Its Safe?

Whether they do or not, I for one wouldn’t trust it as far as I can throw a 747. Private data should remain just that, private, and I am all for legislation that will totally outlaw these practices and  make the gathering of personal data illegal without the full prior permission of the user. Ever since the internet came along and greedy individuals found ways to make masses of money from it, our private lives have been in perpetual danger, and no-one is more susceptible to it than the users of Facebook, Twitter, and the like. These social websites have blossomed into multi-billion dollar entities over the past ten years, and there is little sign the pace is slackening.

Childrens Fairy Tales and Political Correctness

Posted in America, Britain, Children, England, Parenting, UK, USA with tags , , , , on 15/02/2012 by floroy1942

I really could not believe what I read today on Yahoo! It seems many of today’s parents do not tell their children traditional fairy stories because some scare them. It seems also that political correctness has struck at the fairy stories we all loved as children.

When questioned by TV channel Watch, one in five of the 2,000 parents questioned on the subject said that in some cases their little darlings were scared when Little Red Riding Hood was read to them because the Big Bad Wolf ate the grandmother. Others said they did not read Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to their children because the term ‘Dwarf’ did not seem appropriate! Some would not read Cinderella because the idea of Cinderella being in the house doing housework all day was ‘outdated’! Goldilocks and the Three Bears was thought to ‘promote stealing’. The stories of Rumpelstiltskin and Rapunzel are considered inappropriate because they feature kidnapping and executions.

It would seem that most parents these days don’t even bother to tell their offspring fairy stories until they reach the age of five. The reason? The kids ask too many awkward questions!

I have to admit that I told my two children fairy stories from the time they were old enough to understand them, and they loved it. In fact I was blackmailed every evening, because they wouldn’t go to sleep without one. After listening to the stories they both quickly fell into a deep untroubled sleep. As you can imagine, it did not take long to go through all the regular tales and so I used to make them up as I went along. Thank goodness I never got asked to repeat a story from the week before!

Wow! Snow White Never Looked THAT Good When I Was A Kid!

Neither of them ever cried or had nightmares from the stories I told, which included Little Red Riding Hood, so I can only assume we are raising weak minded children these days, or the parents are not telling the stories as they should be told. Some of them have been around for over a hundred years and I never heard of them scaring children.

As to the farcical ‘political correct’ approach to fairy stories, the only thing I can say to all those parents is – Get a life and don’t be so childish!

Sean Penn Should Keep His Mouth Shut!

Posted in Britain, David Cameron, England, Human Rights, UK, United Nations, USA with tags , , , , on 14/02/2012 by floroy1942

Don’t you get annoyed when silly personalities wishing to get some free publicity stick their noses into business that doesn’t concern them? The latest to join the ranks is Sean Penn, Hollywood star and big friend of Argentina. He had the nerve to call for David Cameron to enter into negotiations with the Argentina government over the Falklands issue.

"Pull the Trigger Man - Pull the Trigger!"

Following the Argentine Presidents line he called Britain ‘Colonial’ saying: “It’s necessary that these diplomatic talks happen between the United Kingdom and Argentina. I think that the world today is not going to tolerate any kind of ludicrous and archaic commitment to colonialist ideology.” Bloody cheek!!!!!!!!!!

How Chummy!

Always a strong supporter of South American nationalism he posed for a photo with President Kirchner when making his announcement, referring to the Falkland Islands as “The Malvinas of Argentina”. He is reported to be a strong supporter of Hugo Chavez and its anybody’s guess as to why he is so in love with South America. I do not care how many films he has made and how many Oscars he has, he should stick to the thing he knows best, acting!

Falklanders in the UK Border Agency?

It seems he hasn’t spared a single thought for the islanders and their wishes. I wonder what he would say if he actually took the trouble to visit the islands and talk to the people. He seems quite content to forget their human rights. I think he had better not go there now, for he may never leave alive! So far as I’m concerned, he better not come to Britain in the near future either! Personally, I would stop him at the airport and declare him ‘Persona Non Grata!” In fact, why don’t we hire some Islanders and give them a job in Passport Control! Stupid pompous little ass!

Ken (Clark) Has a Go At The ECHR!

Posted in Britain, David Cameron, England, Extradition, Human Rights, Justice, Prison, UK with tags , , , , on 14/02/2012 by floroy1942

An eye-opener for many, but Ken Clark has shown his heart is in the right place by attacking the sheer stupidity of the European Court of Human Rights(ECHR). During a speech to the Austrian Diplomatic Academy in Vienna he said in no uncertain terms that the ECHR was in desperate need of reform. After their ruling on the Abu Qatada case, and that prisoners in our country should have full voting rights, I tend to agree.

He claims that the courts are overloaded, and when you take into consideration that in the first 40 years of its existence it handled a total of 45,000 cases, and in 2010 alone 61,300, I can see what he means.

That's Right Ken - You Tell 'Em

During his speech he said:  ¨It is individual states and their courts which have primary responsibility for implementing the convention and granting effective remedies. At times, I consider that the court has been too ready to substitute its own judgment for that of national courts and parliaments. It was never meant to be a court of appeal for routine domestic judgments. No court could ever hope to offer redress to 800 million people. National courts are in the best position to understand national problems.” In that I have to agree.

In my opinion, there are more than sufficient safeguards within the national justice system to ensure fairness. What gets peoples backs up in this country is the interference from Strasbourg that dictates e.g. Abu Qatada the terrorist can neither be held in custody, nor deported to Jordan. Also, how dare such a body dictate to us that convicted criminals have as much right to vote as law-abiding citizens?

ECHR - Strasbourg

Abu Qatada is not the only one to have escaped deportation on ´Human Rights´grounds, there have been many before him, such as  Mohammed Ibrahim who ran over a young girl (Posted 17/12/2010). On top of that, many criminals have used the infamous Article 8 (Right to family life) defence to escape a jail sentence, in particular I think of burglar Wayne Bishop who I wrote about on the 28th May last year. He escaped a prison sentence because he had five children. He was re-arrested recently on GBH (grievous bodily harm) charges. So much for the loving father whose children cannot live without him.

There have been too many cases where the ECHR has made a mockery of justice in our country, and it has to stop. I for one will be very happy if Ken Clark and David Cameron can introduce legislative changes to the way in which the court operates during Britain´s tenure at the`head of the table´.  If that happens, and we rid ourselves of the ridiculous `Human Rights´ appeals to every sentence handed out by the courts, so much the better.

The Unseen Dangers of the Arab Spring

Posted in Al Quada, Arab, Insurgents, Islamic Revolution, Muslim, Somaila, Terrorism, United Nations with tags , , , , , , on 12/02/2012 by floroy1942

On 17 December 2010 Mohamed Bouazizi, a 26 year old Tunisian street vendor set himself alight in protest at the confiscation of his wares, and the harassment and humiliation that he reported was inflicted on him by a municipal official and her aides. There was no way he could foresee the wave of unrest that followed his action across the arab world.

Mohamed Bouazizi - The Catalyst

It led to the downfall of the Tunisian President, El Abadine Ben Ali, followed later by Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, Muhamar Gaddafi of Libya and President Ali Abdulla Saleh of Yemen. It had far reaching effects on the political scene in many more arab countries where governmental changes were hastened after protests. Protests in Jordan led King Abdullah to sack two governments in an effort to stave off major disruptions in the country.

Syrian Tanks Fire on Homs

Now everyone is concentrating on Syria, where despite condemnation by the Arab League and a lot of talk at the UN, President Assad is trying desperately to put down what amounts to a fully fledged rebellion in the country. Accusations fly thick and fast from the government, saying the problems are being caused by ‘outside elements’, while the protesters shout to the world the daily death toll at the hands of their armed forces.

Today a Syrian general was assassinated outside his home by armed gunmen. The government say these men were an “armed terrorist group”, and it is possible. Not surprisingly, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Naturally this does not detract from the fact that around 7000 civilians have been killed by government forces over the past months.

Assad

What the outcome will be in Syria is anyone’s guess, but it seems the regime’s days are numbered. The question that should now be asked is: Will Assad and his entourage ever be brought before the International Court for crimes against humanity, seeing as his armed forces are killing unarmed civilians with tanks and artillery? His days must surely be numbered, for he even has neighbouring arab states against him now. Once he has been subdued, will that be the end of the arab spring I wonder?

There has been death on the streets of many arab countries outside those already mentioned, like Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Mauritania and Lebanon. In many cases it has been sectarian in nature. There seems to be no love between Sunni and Shi’ite muslims in the arab world and they seem to be increasingly ‘having a go’ at the opposition.

Saudi Protests

In many nations, like Bahrain, which is ruled by the Sunni al Khalifa family, 70-75% of the people are Shia. In Syria we see an Alewite (an offshoot of Sunni) presiding over a population that is 74% Shia. Often in recent times this has led to friction. In Qatif, the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, which is home to a Shia majority, they complained of marginalisation at the hands of the Sunni ruling family.

The situation in Saudi Arabia is the most troubling for it is staunchly pro-western and is of course the world’s largest supplier of oil. Trouble is brewing in the Qatif region in eastern Saudi where one protester was shot by police who said they were shot at by gunmen. An identical event took place earlier in the town of Qatif. Not surprisingly it is small actions like this that inflame people into taking part in large scale protests at the deaths, which can lead to a similar action by the police. Once the fire is lit, it can be hard to put out.

It is without doubt that the entire region was stable until one lowly street vendor decided to set himself alight in protest, now what the future holds for the arab world is anyone’s guess. Egypt and Libya are still in turmoil, which to be honest, looks like continuing throughout the rest of this year. There is also unrest in the other countries mentioned, which could take no more than a small spark to ignite. Meanwhile, we stand on the sidelines waiting to see what happens next.

What Is He Up to Now?

An ‘un-named’ US official has let it be known that there could be al Quada fighters from Iraq in Syria busy at work stoking up tensions. It is suggested they were responsible for two bombing, and were likely involved in the attacks that took place in Aleppo. When you look at it from a distance, this is possible. I only say possible, for logic dictates that if al Quada can bring down what was, until recently, a stable government and cause mayhem, they stand to make great gains while the country is in limbo, trying to find its way to a proper government.

The possibility that this is a new tactic of al Quada is not so far fetched, so let’s kick it around for a moment.

What would happen if this Islamic group managed to get into the government of many of the arab countries? As in other places, it starts with one or two people in high positions who work behind the scenes to pave the way for more members and end up taking over. We have seen exactly this scenario take place within the Tower Hamlets Council of London. Al Quada is now aligned with the rebels in Somalia, and obviously they see the possibility of political gains in the country. Therefore, it is by no means a huge stretch of the imagination to see this happening in Syria and perhaps, at a later date, other arab states.

Who Knows What the Future Holds

This is all conjecture, but what would happen to world peace if such an event were to happen? A very disturbing thought indeed. I dread to think what will happen in the future if such a situation actually occurs. Islamic fundamentalist governments controlling most of the world’s oil? Such an event would be catastrophic, and I am glad I will not be around to say “I told you so”! Governments the world over need to pay more attention to the march of Islam, for if they don’t, we could see catastrophic times ahead, for in the long-term, it is always the people who suffer in these power struggles.

Roy.

14/2/12 Update: With the latest news it seems the ideas set forward in this post may not be so far-fetched after all. Yesterday Ayman al-Zawahri, bin Laden’s deputy and now leader of al Quada came out and urged all Muslims in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey to join the uprising against what he called Mr. Assad’s “pernicious, cancerous regime.” Senior Iraqi officials have commented that a steady flow of men linked to al Quada, as well as arms have been flowing over the border into Syria for four months. Regarding the two car bombs that went off in Aleppo last week, it has been remarked that these attacks bear the trademark of al Quada. So maybe this terrorist group is trying to make political capital out of the Syrian mess.

The Argentine President is Making Herself Look Ridiculous

Posted in Britain, England, Human Rights, Relationships, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Security Council, UK, United Nations, USA with tags , , , on 09/02/2012 by floroy1942

As just about everyone knows, the Falklands issue has once again hit the headlines in a war of words between the British and Argentine governments. Now however President Christine Kirchner is making herself look ridiculous just to please the electorate at home.

Argentinian President – A Desperate Woman

Referring to the sending of HMS Dauntless to the islands, and the arrival of Prince William on a six-week rotation, in her latest outburst in Buenos Aries she said, “The question of the Malvinas has stopped being just an Argentinean cause. It has become a Latin American cause. It is a global cause”. She continued, “I have instructed our foreign secretary to submit before the UN security council and the UN assembly this militarization, which is a serious risk to to international security”. A global cause? A serious risk to international security? Really Madam, that is surely bordering on paranoia is it not? It is one ship and a search and rescue pilot!

Prince William Doing His Duty – Nothing More

She also complains that the Prince wears the uniform of an RAF pilot and says he should wear plain clothes. Dammit women, he is in the military and our forces have not yet introduced the idea of going to war in civilian clothes (although this may be another way for the MOD to save money. Hmmm!)!

I wonder what she will say if Prince William is involved in the rescue of Argentinean seamen if one of their vessels gets into trouble and is sinking? I have no doubt this would put her in a quandary, and she will be left standing with her mouth open wondering how to handle it. Such an event would sure as hell take the wind out of her sails.

Argentine P.O.W’s 1982

Britain has, quite rightly in my view, maintained an increased military presence on the island ever since the Falklands war of 1982, and who can  blame them for that. Even President Kirchner admits the 1982 invasion of the islands was a move by the then military junta to divert attention away from the problems on the home front. The islands are 7,000 miles away from our shores and the islanders are British and wish to stay that way.

This is an important point, for the simple reason the United Nations Charter on Human Rights states the inalienable right of people to self-determination. In other words, no-one can force the islanders to accept Argentinean rule, and Argentina cannot force themselves upon them.

UN Security Council – Not Likely to Take the Bait

So all in all, I doubt very much that the UN Security Council will give much credence to this macabre joke by Kirchner. The only fly in the ointment is the United States who have already sided with Argentina on the Falklands issue in this latest round, for their own ends of course! It is now well known there is a massive oil field in the waters surrounding the islands, and once exploration is completed and drilling can begin, guess who will be looking for the lion’s share of the drilling contracts. Need I say more?

Should Argentina win this political battle for the Falklands with the backing of Washington, you can bet most, if not all the contracts will go to American companies. Should Britain retain the islands it will be British companies. That is what is behind this current diplomatic spat, and you can rest assured it will not go away until the oil runs out, and then no-one will give a damn about the islands.

John MacBride – Founder of the First Settlement

The history of the Falklands is extremely complicated, but in a nutshell, it was first discovered by Europeans in the 16th century, possibly by Ferdinand Magellan. Between 1592 and 1690 the islands were visited by various British ships, and were in fact named after Anthony Cary, 5th Viscount of Falkland in 1690. France established a colony on the eastern island in 1764 and a British settlement was established on the western island in 1766 by Captain John Macbride, who was unaware of the French. The French eventually agreed to leave and the eastern island was taken over by the Spanish, ruling from Buenos Aries. Under economic pressures brought about by the American War of Independence the British left the islands in 1776, leaving behind a plaque claiming the Islands.

From Buenos Aries, Spain ruled the islands until 1811 but withdrew under pressure of the Napoleonic wars raging in Europe. In 1832 Buenos Aries set up a penal colony on the island. In 1833 Britain sent a sloop under the command of Captain James Onslow to reclaim the islands, which he did, having asked the Spanish officials to leave.

Port Stanley – Island Capital

So you see, at various times since the 15th century, various countries have claimed the islands, and it was more Spain that occupied them rather than Argentina itself, for the country did not exist during this period, but was no more than a Spanish colony. Britain was the only country to maintain an occupancy for any length of time. During the Spanish occupation it was mostly seal hunters that visited the islands. Argentina finally became a country in its own right after the Peninsula War against the Spanish and was recognized by Britain in 1825.

So if you go back and examine the history of the Falklands, it becomes clear that Argentina has actually little or no claim on the islands, despite all the rhetoric to the contrary. No, I believe the driving factor here is the oil. Currently, we may only be scratching the surface of the amount of oil hidden away under the seabed around these disputed islands, and when push comes to shove, that’s what its all about.

Falkland Oil Fields

The British company that is carrying out the search for undersea oil is Rockhopper, and they have already discovered a field estimated to hold 700million barrels of oil which they named ‘Sea Lion’. The company needs an injection of cash to extend the search and work the ‘Sea Lion’ field, and is currently searching for a partner.

James Hackett – CEO of Anadarko

One American company looks like getting in ‘on the ground floor’ – Anadarko, with close ties to the American Ministry of Defence. Two British and four American companies have expressed interest (naturally), but its Andarko that is currently in negotiations with Rockhopper, having had a meeting with them a couple of weeks ago.

Chief Negotiator of the Islands Penguins Setting Compensation Limits for Oil Contamination

Apparently this has enraged President Kirchner, who sees a golden opportunity of using American muscle to get her own way with the oil contracts as bait, slip through her fingers. It seems from this standpoint, that the best way out of the crisis for Britain may well be to allow some American companies in, in which case Argentina will be completely shut out. Whoever wins the contracts, I hope the islanders get their fair share of the loot. As to the penquins, I doubt they will care very much (so long as we don’t get any oil spills). Like many others, I will await the outcome.

Why Is Britain Forced To Release Abu Qatada?

Posted in Afghanistan, Al Quada, Britain, England, Extradition, Human Rights, Islamic Revolution, Justice, UK, USA with tags , , , on 08/02/2012 by floroy1942

Abu Qatada is once more in the news because the British government has been told it can no longer keep this radical cleric incarcerated. He is a known terrorist with two convictions in his native Jordan for terrorists acts, but Britain can neither deport him nor keep him locked up. Justice is supposed to be blind and impartial, but sadly, in this day and age that is not true. Now it favours the criminal and the terrorist.

Merchant of Hate – Abu Qatada

He has been implicated in acts of terror by others, and has openly incited impressionable young Muslims to terror attacks against Jews, Americans and British. A Spanish Judge went so far as to name him as Bin Laden’s right-hand man in Europe, but it seems the law is unable to touch him. He is accused by the Home Office of being “a significant international terrorist” and the spiritual guide of Mohamed Atta, one of the al Qaeda terrorists who piloted a jet into the World Trade Centre on 11 September 2001.

Due to his links with the al-Tawhid movement, its leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and his Iraq-based terrorist group, he has the blood of Kenneth Bigley, and two Americans Jack Hensley and Eugene Armstrong, on his hands. They were beheaded by this group over the period September/October 2004.

Video of Kennth Bigley released by his kidnappers:

Kenneth Bigley Seconds Before He Was Beheaded

The Home Office also points out that he has raised money to send young British Muslims to Afghanistan for training as terrorists, and has “provided advice which gives religious legitimacy to those who wish to further the aims of extreme Islamism and to engage in terrorist attacks, including suicide bombings. A number of individuals arrested or detained in connection with terrorism have acknowledged his influence upon them.” He is accused of giving guidance and advice to several other terror groups, including Rachid Ramda, the former leader of the GIA in the UK, who was arrested for his involvement in the 1995 Paris Metro bombings. All of this still does not seem sufficient for Britain to keep him locked up.

Qatada is to be released on bail within days after the Special Immigration Appeals Commission was forced to heed the ruling from Strasbourg. It was also Strasbourg that halted his deportation to Jordan because he claimed the evidence against him was obtained by torture. In  1999 he was sentenced in his absence to life imprisonment with hard labour for conspiracy to commit terror attacks, and in 2000 he was sentenced to a further 15 years’ hard labour for conspiring in the “millennium plot” to attack western and Israeli targets in Jordan on New Year’s Eve. Qatada is quoted as saying “he feared he would be tortured if he returned to Jordan because the Amman government objected to his Islamist political activities and his ideological leadership of an Islamist reform group that looked to install in Jordan an Islamic government, controlled by Islamic law, and to depose the monarchy”.

Terrorist Training Camp Afghanistan

The evidence against this man is overwhelming both at home and abroad, but it seems the British justice system can find nothing to charge him with in the UK. It’s amazing! He will be released under strict bail conditions and be confined to his house for twenty-two hours a day, however, if the Home Secretary cannot show within three months that progress is being made in negotiations with Jordan regarding his extradition, all these restrictions will have to be lifted. This means he will be free to continue spouting his hatred for us, the Jews and the Americans. He will be free to incite hatred and send young Muslims off to the training camps in Afghanistan.

Personally, I would put him on a ship and take him out to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and then throw him overboard. Then we will see how much Allah loves him.

Without doubt, it is time this vermin was gotten rid of permanently, in any way possible!

Roy.

14 February – Update: Well, this animal has been released from jail, and at last some headway is being made in talks with the Jordanian government. They say they passed a law last October preventing the use of evidence obtained by  torture, so with luck, Qatada may well be on a plane to Jordan some time soon. Hopefully the Jordanians will take him out of circulation for good and people can sleep peacefully in their beds once again.

Advertisement Airbrushing Should Be Illegal

Posted in Britain, England, Europe, Health, Teens, UK, USA with tags , , , on 07/02/2012 by floroy1942

The controversy over airbrushing of advertisement posters has once again surfaced after one by L’Oreal was banned because of excessive airbrushing on the face of the model Rachel Weisz. The advertising companies have gone overboard with this technique ever since the arrival of Adobes’s Photoshop a couple of years ago.

How Can Such A Fraud Be Allowed?

We have gotten used to seeing adverts featuring models with a perfect unblemished skin promoting creams and lotions that will supposedly give you the same look, and many women, and in particular younger ones, think they can achieve the same look using them. I have to tell you now, its all a big con! Anyone who thinks smearing a certain cream on your face will remove wrinkles and blemishes are living in cloud cuckoo land.

Before and After

Before you buy one of these creams you should ask yourself, if they are so good, why don’t we see before and after treatment photo’s of these models? Why are the people featured in the posters all young with very few blemishes, all of which are airbrushed out? Why do we see women below the age of thirty or thirty-five featured in anti-wrinkle adverts. It would seem to me that if the manufacturers have any faith in their product at all, they should be featuring women over forty and giving us some before and after photo’s.

How it’s done:

Britney Spears – What A Travesty

The list of models who have been airbrushed is so long as to include almost everyone in the business. Not only have facial blemishes been removed, but also such things as cellulite. Models have been made to look much slimmer than they are in real life, photo’s of Britney Spears are a fine example.

Airbrushing Makes Everything Possible.

What annoys me most is that no-one seems interested in doing something about it. Government advertising watchdogs remain silent while women everywhere are bamboozled into thinking they could have such looks. Naturally enough most women realise that the whole thing is fake, but that doesn’t stop them, and the few that believe the hype, from  wanting the products in the vain hope it will work. Consequently the companies get rich based on a complete lie for none of these products are cheap, they cost the earth. It is time a stop was put this mass marketing fraud and the cosmetic trade got back to some form of normalcy.

Government to Look at the ‘Whiplash’ Insurance Scam

Posted in Britain, England, Government, Justice, Theft, Traffic, UK with tags , , , , on 07/02/2012 by floroy1942

One of the biggest cons in Britain today is that of ‘whiplash’, i.e. injury to the neck after a bump in the car. A large number of swindlers see it as a neat way of earning some extra cash at little expense, and this is reflected in the spiralling cost of motor insurance in the country.

Wow! My Neck! That’ll Cost You An Arm And A Leg

You are driving along quite sedately when suddenly the car in front for no apparent reason slams on the brakes and you hit him. If that happens to you, you have probably fallen foul of a con-man. He will get out of the car complaining of a severe pain in his neck and when you look at the damage to the car its superficial. Unfortunately there is little you can do, and you quickly realise your insurance is going to have to pay out, meaning next year your no-claims bonus is out the window.

The problem with whiplash is that its very difficult to substantiate, especially if the ‘victim’ knows the right moment to let out a moan when seen by a doctor. The medical fraternity are loath to ignore the complaint for fear of being sued themselves.

‘Let Us Help You’ and We Make Money Too!

What makes the whole thing worse is that we have what are commonly referred to as ‘ambulance chasers’. These are unscrupulous lawyers who make a practice of following ambulances after an accident and then sweet-talking the injured person into hiring them to make a claim for compensation. These people are despicable parasites who should not be allowed to practice law under any circumstances. It amazes me that the Ministry of Justice has so far taken no action to prevent them from operating. Statistics have shown there are more than 1,500 claims for whiplash injury per day in the UK. Consequently the insurance companies have passed on this cost to the insured. Britain has often been called the whiplash capital of Europe, and with good reason.

Justine Greening

Now at last Transport Secretary Justine Greening, Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, Justice Secretary Ken Clarke, Home Secretary Theresa May and Business Secretary Vince Cable have said they intend to do something about it. Ms Greening said: “There is no getting away from it: the cost of car insurance is bearing increasingly little relationship to the real world where motorists act more responsibly than ever and accidents really do happen less often. With this in mind, it would be reasonable to expect premiums to come down or at least hold steady. But the cost of cover continues on a relentless climb. Sadly, Britain is now the whiplash capital of Europe, with more than 1,500 claims a day”. Quite right Madam!

In a recent interview Nick Starling, director of general insurance at the Association of British Insurers, said: “Honest motorists have rightly had enough of paying for ambulance chasing lawyers, claims management companies and fraudsters who milk the compensation merry-go-round through higher premiums”.

Careless Man on a Ladder

Britain has developed over the past few years into a compensation culture where everyone is out to get paid for the slightest accident. Trip on a pavement and they’re off to a lawyer to see how much money they can get for something that is often their own fault through blatant carelessness. If someone is working at a height and leans too far to the side causing the ladder to fall they are searching for a lawyer to get compensation from the ladder company or their employer. They don’t have to go too far to find one.

I am well aware there are genuine cases of injury caused by faulty machinery or lack of proper safety measures, and I do not wish to include these people in this, but for every genuine case there are perhaps ten at least who do not deserve their ill-gotten gains.

Claim, Claim, Claim

Lawyers in general have discovered there is much money to be made in filing compensation claims against whoever, and they rarely lose. One of the reasons why they find it extremely lucrative to follow an ambulance after an accident and collar the victim. Most people don’t find it hard to give in to the glib talk from these people if they think there may be money in it for them. British TV is smothered in adverts by law firms offering a “No win – No fee” service. After all, so far as the client is concerned if they lose the case it costs them nothing anyway. As soon as anyone is even slightly injured these cockroaches come out of the woodwork.

I wish the government luck and hope they can stamp out this vile trade because its only driving factor is greed and the honest motorist is paying price.
