The Benefits For Foreigners Scandal

Posted in Benefits, Britain, Conservative Party, David Cameron, England, Europe, Government Spending, Human Rights, Immigrants, Liberal Party, Nick Clegg, Parliament, UK with tags , , , , on 30/09/2011 by floroy1942

When you think of government benefits like Children’s/Job Seekers Allowance, one would automatically think of looking after your own first, i.e. people who contribute to the system through taxes.

Benefit Britain - Welcome!

Unfortunately this is not always so, for apart from the previous Labour government opening the immigration doors to every Tom, Dick or Harry who wanted to take advantage of Britain’s generous system, we now have to contend with EU Commission meddling. Britain has, it seems, been criticised for not paying benefits to all EU nationals who cross our border!

Britain currently assesses EU nationals under the ‘Right to Reside’ policy which is not applied to British nationals. Obvious really!  According to Ian Duncan Smith, the Work and Pensions Secretary, the new rules being forced on Britain by the Commission would “mean the British taxpayer paying out over £2bn extra a year in benefits to people who have no connection to our country and who have never paid in a penny in tax.” To me this is scandelous!

Ian Duncan Smith

He continued:”As if this week’s decision was not bad enough, we are also fighting increasing demands for the UK to pay benefits to those who have long since moved abroad, and who may never have made more than a token contribution to UK society.” The logic of this would baffle anyone. Why should Britain pay benefits to someone who has left the country? It would seem that the idea of some nutcase in the EU, is anyone can come to Britain for a two week holiday and receive benefits for the rest of their life when they return home!

Employment minister Chris Grayling is quoted as saying: the move could “open our doors to benefit tourism”. To be honest, I think his statement is a few years late, because Labour did that years ago with the immigrants!

Keep Your Noses Out Of Britain!

Another disheartening factor is that Britain is being ‘hung out to dry’ by some ‘holier than thou’ individuals in the EU when Britain already has the largest benefits bill of any EU country! Try going to Romania, Hungary, Italy or Spain and get the level of benefits available in Britain, or for that matter any benefits! You will be told politely, at first, to remove yourself from the office by some individual with a wide smirk on his face while his companions roar with laughter in the background. Come to England and the first question is “How much do you want?”

In my opinion, the government should tell the EU Commision to ‘go jump in the lake’ (I’m being polite) and ignore the whole stupid idea!

The Children Are Dying

Posted in Atlantic, Britain, Children, England, Environment, Forests, Health, Human Rights, Oceans, Somaila, Spain, UK, UN, United Nations, USA with tags , , , , , , , , , on 26/09/2011 by floroy1942

Children are dying daily, and almost no-one notices. It is a sad fact that very little Press coverage is given to the human suffering in Africa, where hundreds of people are dying of hunger and disease.

It is not unusual for such occurences to be pushed from the front page of the newspapers by the attention-grabbing headlines about Libya, the Palestinian situation, and the economic crisis. These stories attract readers, while the problems in Africa have been going on for decades. The sad truth is, the story is just not newsworthy.

It does not detract however from the huge suffering encountered in so many African nations. While small children, and grown-ups, are dying by the hundreds every day on this strife-torn continent, the rest of the world looks on and says; “Oh Dear! What a shame! What’s happening in Libya?”

A Dying Child

Aid, such as basic foods and medicine, have for decades been pumped into various African States by well-meaning governments and aid organizations, but it doesn’t help very much. It has reached the stage where the populace live from hand-to-mouth, relying totally on the aid groups. With this attitude, there is little justification for the respective governments to take long-term measures to fix the problem once and for all time.

What Happens To Aid In Africa

Part of the problem is without doubt the massive corruption and theft of not only money, but aid goods also.

Given As Aid – But Sidetracked To The Local Market

Many corrupt politicians and officials have made themselves rich by siphoning off money from donations. It is an everyday sight in many North African towns to see sacks of aid grain for sale openly in the markets.

There is not much by way of a ‘self-help’ programme that will get water to the areas of drought and famine. Water is always scarce in Africa, but there must be ways of getting this precious commodity to the parched areas of the country.

European Oil Pipelines

We lay pipelines for thousands of miles to carry oil to those that need it, but to lay the equivalent for water seems quite impossible. Why? We have laid oil pipelines from  Russia to Western Europe with a distance in excess of 2,000kms, and yet Lake Turkana is only 700kms from central Southern Sudan, and Lake Victoria is just over 1,000kms! Surely, it must be possible to have pipelines carrying water from the great African lakes and rivers, or even desalinated water from the sea, to make these barren lands fertile once more. Once the ground is fit for purpose, it is necessary to plants huge areas of trees.

I can hear the question ‘why’ already.

Rain Forests Of The World

Think for a moment where the most rain falls annually on our planet. If you check your maps, you will find it is mostly in heavily forested areas such as the Amazon, African and Far East rain forests, which is why they are called ‘Rain Forests’. Trees have the ability to change weather patterns like nothing else on the planet. A century ago there were many trees in northern Africa, and the climate was more stable than it is now.

Britain has seen dramatic changes in weather patterns in the last fifty years, ever since huge swathes of woodland were removed to make room for crop growing. Even Romania on the other side of Europe suffers in the same way.

The Green Wall – An Environmental Group Plan

It is inescapable that much of the African problem has been caused by the people themselves. Their only source of fuel in these poor areas is wood, and over the last century, trees have slowly disappeared from the landscape, and now there is not a single one left. This is one of the reasons why the Sahara Desert is continually growing in size by an estimated 30 miles per year. It doesn’t sound much until you see how it has grown since the middle of the last century. Trees bind the soil together and prevent erosion, and in the long term, eventually ensure sufficient rainfall.

If the soil can be made fertile enough to support such growth again, turning back the clock and revitalising the near desert areas of Africa will, in many years time, bring back the rain.

I know it sounds simple, and I can hear many people scoffing at the idea from here, but take one example.

Senseless Destruction Of The Amazonian Forest

The Amazon Rain Forest was once the mightiest forest on the planet, until greedy men started chopping it down. Now, huge swathes of this important forest no longer exist, and what do we have? This year the area suffered its first drought! Drought in the Amazon Rain Forest is unheard of!

As a subsequence of this malicious attack, we have now made a major change to the weather patterns in the Atlantic, which in turn have affected the weather in the Caribbean, the USA and even Europe.

I Would Never Be A Sailor! An Atlantic Storm

It is impossible to say that the destruction of the rain forests is the only reason for these weather phenomenon, for the warming of the oceans has also played a part, but I think this is more the reason for the increase in hurricane and typhoon activity.

Rain Forest Cleared For A Palm Plantation

This whole scenario has been duplicated to a similar degree in Africa and the Far East. In places like Indonesia and Borneo, whole tracts of rain forest are being destroyed to make way for palm trees. So why you might ask, do they want to plant so many palm trees? Palm oil is used for the production of biofuels that are supposed to help save the planet! Now there’s an irony!

So now you may understand my drawing the conclusion that forests have a significant effect on the weather!

Of course, part of the problem is cost. The countries that need it are not in a position to finance such a venture, but then why should the rich nations of our planet, or the IMF, not foot the bill? Of course it will be expensive, and require huge investment by the rich nations, but is this not preferable to the African Continent continually draining money from the world economy for the next thousand years? For there is little doubt, the problem is only going to get worse!

Money Wasted On Aid?

I would hate to estimate how much money has been donated by individuals, charities and governments over the last forty years or so to help the poor of Africa, but you can imagine it must run into trillions of dollars. Would that money not have been better spent on a long-term solution, or are these same people willing to spend another trillion dollars in the future?

While poor, the people of Africa could sustain themselves if their land was fertile enough to produce the food they need. It is in this area that aid would be most useful.

Unless we can motivate the African people, and countries can come together to make their lands fertile again, they will never be able to get out of the abyss they currently find themselves trapped in.

The Return Of The Neanderthal – Kid ‘Cage Fights’!

Posted in Britain, Child Abuse, Children, England, Insanity, Modern World, Parenting, Teen Violence, Teens, UK, USA with tags , , , , , on 23/09/2011 by floroy1942

I was to say the least, disgusted at the news that two children, one eight, and one nine, took part in a so-called Cage Fight in Preston Lancashire, England. The fight took place in front of a baying crowd of some 200 members of the Greenlands Labour Club on 10th September.

The Two Boys Fighting In A Cage

A video of the event was posted on-line, which led to many complaints, and shock among people who saw it. The police were notified, but have said today they could take no action because no laws had been broken. According to the latest reports, the local council will be looking into the matter, to decide if any of the licensing laws pertaining to the club had been abused.

The father of one of the boys said in an interview that he thought there was nothing wrong with it, and his son wanted to do it. When asked how he felt about it, the child answered; “it was exciting” and “it was fun”! The whole idea has been defended by those involved “because it got rid of aggression in young boys”. I have to ask what they think such an experience will do to their development, especially if it becomes a regular thing? It is intended by the organizers to hold another such event in about a months time.

No Protection

Many institutions, like The British Medical Association commented on the fact that neither boy wore any protective clothing like head protectors. Even the British Cage Fighting Association said it was totally against children participating in such a “sport”.

Video of boys fighting:

A Battered And Bruised Cage Fighter

To be honest, I fail to see how cage fighting in any form can be called a sport! It is, to say the least, barbaric, cruel, and totally out of keeping with today’s ‘civilized’ world. I just cannot see the attraction of watching two grown men, let alone children, beat the hell out of each other in a cage. The fight between the two children was toned down, according to the organizers, for no punching or kicking was allowed. When two men get in the cage however, anything goes!

Cobra/Mongoose Fight To The Death

We put fighting dogs and cockerels in a small space and make them fight, and in places like India they put a cobra and mongoose together, which are of course natural enemies, but surely we should not do the same with human beings, especially children as young as eight! But what disturbs me almost as much, is the blood lust of those watching cage fights. According to reports, these same bloodthirsty individuals were getting just as excited at the spectacle of two children fighting, one of whom ended up in tears!

http:

I am sorry, but it not the kind of spectacle I would expect to see today. We are supposed to have left this kind of activity behind in the Colosseum of Ancient Rome.

Crunch Day For The Dale Farm Travellers

Posted in Benefits, Britain, Children, England, Environment, Europe, Human Rights, Justice, Parenting, Primary Education, Theft, UK with tags , , , , , on 18/09/2011 by floroy1942

Monday will be ‘crunch’ day for the illegal Irish travellers living at Dale Farm in Basildon. I have no doubt this evening will see a whole host of news people gathering at the site, waiting for the moment when the bailiffs from Basildon Council arrive with the eviction order.

Original Irish Travellers

Once the car carrying the men is spotted, all news crews will work themselves up into a frenzy and the ‘flash bulbs’ will be popping like crazy. The members of the bleeding hearts brigade will begin their chants of “Fascists” and “Racist” at the tops of their collective voices, not that the whole episode has anything to do with them. They just like an opportunity to shout insults at government and council workers going about their lawful duty, and of course, get their pictures in the papers.

Traveller? Try towing that place behind your truck!

This whole scenario is about a group of some 400 travellers who have taken over a piece of land that does not belong to them, and although they call themselves ‘travellers’, many have lived there for 10 years. The local council has been trying to evict them for a long time, but to no avail. Now it’s ‘crunch time’.

Ethnic Cleansing?

In my opinion, they are a blot on the landscape, because they seem to think they can pull over anywhere and set up home, and don’t give a damn about who owns the land. None of them pay taxes like normal people, because they are travellers, they seem to think they are exempt. Mostly, they survive by doing odd jobs in the neighbourhoods where they settle, but many still claim benefits!  With some groups, the crime rate suddenly goes up when they move in. For those who doubt the crime aspect, one of the leaders, Richard Sheridan, has twice been convicted of smuggling cigarettes and evading £9 million in customs duty.

Care For The Environment? Traveller Rubbish Tip

As for the environment, forget it! They seem to think they can turn any piece of land they take for their own into a rubbish tip, and when its full to overflowing, move on.

Yes You Will!

These people have tried every legal loophole against their eviction, at tax payers expense I might add, and it has all been for nothing, as each successive hearing has upheld the order. One woman is still hoping for a breakthrough using a medical problem as an excuse. They have also tried the ‘education of our children’ excuse because some 107 are enrolled at the local primary school. The school authorities say that most of them don’t turn up for school anyway. It is no wonder the majority of travellers are illiterate!

The council have ‘bent over backwards’ to solve the problem with these people, even offering them houses near the children’s school, all to no avail.

Expensive Homes In Ireland?

Nope! I think the eviction should go ahead, and they should be told politely to ‘sling their collective hook’ as it were. If they wish to settle down like normal folk, then let them live by normal standards and pay taxes like the rest of us!  Investigations have uncovered the fact that some of these people actually own large houses in Ireland. So the question is, why are they squatting illegally in England?

These people should be made aware that the ‘age of the traveller’ is long gone, and while a nomadic lifestyle may sound ‘idyllic’, it is these days anything but! Settle down people, pay taxes, and give your children the chance of a proper education. Your time is over!

Giant Balloon to Combat Climate Change?

Posted in Britain, England, Environment, Europe, Germany, Health, Modern World, UK, USA with tags , , , , , , , , , on 15/09/2011 by floroy1942

I was amazed to read a report on a project called, the “Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering” or SPICE for short, that has scientists going ga ga at the moment (No! I do not mean the attention seeking pop singer).

How It Would Be Done

It would seem their plan is to introduce a helium-filled balloon into the atmosphere, and release particles that would reflect sunlight away from Earth, and thereby reduce global warming. The current feasibility test involves releasing a balloon that will reach a height of 1km with a hose attached. Through this hose, water will be pumped at a rate of 100 litres an hour to test the possibility of doing this at an altitude of 20km, though how they expect to vertically pump anything 20kms remains a mystery. I just hope the team members remember to bring umbrellas with them.

Mount Pinatubo 1991

The test is based on data gathered during the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Phillipines in 1991. As a result of this event, five cubic kilometres of volcanic ash and gas were released into the atmosphere which passed around the globe. The particles in the ash cloud reflected sunlight away from Earth causing a drop of some 0.5C degrees in global temperature for a short while. It is this phenomenon that the scientists wish to recreate.

The project is years away from fruition, if it ever gets off the ground, but some people are already worried by this experiment.

Our Precious Atmosphere

I have always believed that we ‘reap what we sow’, and to mess with nature to this extent could be disastrous. For many years, really since the dawn of the industrial age, we have meddled with our world, pumping ever increasing amounts of deadly cocktails into the atmosphere, caring little for the consequences. Part of the result that we are seeing now is the disastrous changes in world weather patterns. Such events as Hurricane Katrina, the tsunami in Japan, drought in Africa, and the major flooding in Pakistan along with vast areas of the Far East, will most probably become a regular event. All of which are a direct result of our uncaring attitude towards the planet we call home.

There have been many hair-brained schemes cooked up to combat the change in global temperatures, and I think this is one of them. Our only real chance of ‘getting things back to normal’, is to sort out ourselves, and more particularly our ‘life goals’ on this planet. Do we wish for all life on our world to be extinguished at some future date? Do we, the current generation even care? Do we really wish to pass on to our children a battle they cannot possibly win, or are we as a race, prepared to make the necessary sacrifices in our lifetime, to save our world for future generations.

Oh Dear! That does sound dramatic, but let me put just one scenario to you.

A Lot Less Cars?

What if every family in the world were to reduce the number cars they had to just one, as it used to be? How many families in your street have two or more cars? As a ‘guesstimate’ on my part, maybe it could cut the number of vehicles on the world’s roads by half, if not more!!!  This one sacrifice would cut global warming by one helluva lot! The amount of Co2 being pumped into the atmosphere could be cut by trillions of tons!!!

Of course, it would mean major sacrifice for many people, and the car manufacturer’s would not be happy. In 2006 manufacturers produced 49,886,549 passenger cars. In 2009, even considering the economic slowdown, a total of 51,971,328 were produced in the US, Western Europe and Japan. When you add to that all the vehicles that already clog our roads, it adds up to a massive amount of Co2 being pumped into the atmosphere.

Industrial Emissions

Coupled with the savings in Co2, would come increased health, because we would not be poisoning the air we breathe in towns and cities across the world. Sure, there are other ways of  reducing carbon emissions, like industry, power generation and aircraft, and these areas must also not be forgotten.

All these things combined could save our planet without having to mess with Mother Nature. For we can be sure, no matter what we do, like seeding the atmosphere, she will have the last word

The Perfect Answer To “Human Rights” Nutters!

Posted in Afghanistan, Al Quada, Arab, Britain, Conservative Party, David Cameron, England, Equality, Europe, Extradition, Human Rights, Immigrants, Insurgents, Islamic Revolution, Justice, Liberal Party, Muslim, Taliban, Terrorists, UK, USA with tags , , , on 13/09/2011 by floroy1942

It would seem the crackpots are everywhere today, usually disguised as Human Rights Groups and H.R. Lawyers, and don’t they just love to stick their nasty little fingers into every pie. Criminals are let off because going to jail infringes their human rights, terrorists are molly-coddled instead of being dished out with the same medicine they give to everyone else.

It makes right-minded people sick, and many wonder how to sort them out. In my e-mail today I received the following, and although its probably not true, it would seem like a pretty good way of sorting out these misfits who meddle in everyone elses affairs. Let them complain about prisoners rights, then let’s take the following action:

A lady Canadian libertarian wrote a lot of letters to the Government, complaining about the treatment of captive insurgents (terrorists) being held in Afghanistan’s national correctional system facilities.

She received back the following reply:

National  Defence Headquarters

M Gen George R. Pearkes Bldg,  15 NT

101, Colonel By Drive

Ottawa,ON K1A  0K2

Canada

Dear Concerned Citizen,

Thank you for your recent letter expressing your profound  concern of treatment of the Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorists captured by Canadian Forces – who were subsequently transferred to the Afghanistan Government and are currently being held by Afghan officials in Afghanistan’s National Correctional System facilities. Our administration takes these matters seriously and your opinions were heard loud and clear here in  Ottawa. You will be pleased to learn, thanks to  the concerns of citizens like yourself; we are creating a new department here at the Department of National Defence, to be called ‘Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers’ program, or L.A.R.K. for short.

In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to divert one terrorist and place him in your personal care. Your personal detainee has been selected and is scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence in Toronto next Monday.

Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of complaint. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers. We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommend in your letter. Although Ahmed is a sociopath and extremely violent, we hope that your sensitivity to what you described as his “attitudinal problem ” will help him overcome these character flaws. Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences.

We understand that you plan to offer counselling and home schooling. Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. We advise that you do not ask him to demonstrate these skills at your next yoga group.

He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up, unless (in your opinion) this might offend him.

Ahmed will not wish to interact with you or your daughters (except sexually) since he views females as a subhuman form of property. This is a particularly sensitive subject for him and he has been known to show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the new dress code that he will recommend as more appropriate attire. I’m sure you will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the burka over time. Just remember that it is all part of ‘respecting his culture and religious beliefs’ as described in your letter.

Thanks again for your concern. We truly appreciate it when folks like you keep us informed of the proper way to do our job, and care for our fellow man. You take good care of Ahmed – and remember we’ll be  watching.

Good luck and God Bless You.

Cordially,

Gordon O’Connor  – Minister of National Defense

Perhaps the Ministry of Defence would like to take this idea up! I for one would applaud!

My thanks to the anonymous writer.

Britain Is Too Tolerant By Far!

Posted in Afghanistan, Al Quada, Arab, Britain, Christianity, David Cameron, Demonstration, England, Europe, Extradition, Free Speech, Government, Immigrants, Insurgents, Islamic Revolution, MP's, Muslim, Religion, Sharia Law, Taliban, Terrorists, UK, USA with tags , , , , on 11/09/2011 by floroy1942

Today, a day of world sadness when we remember those who died on September 11 2001, still the Muslim fanatics must have their voices heard.

During the one minute silence for the victims, held at the moment the first hi-jacked aircraft flew into the World Trade Centre, a group of Islamic militants were outside the US Embassy in London shouting their hatred and burning the US flag. What is more amazing, is that the police moved on a group of European Defence League (EDL) demonstrators to make room for the Muslims.

Burning The Flag

The militants were members of the Muslims Against Crusades (MAC) movement, responsible for many anti-British and anti-American demonstrations. Among their atrocious acts have been burning poppies on Remembrance Day, when this country remembers those who fought and died in two world wars to give them the freedom to do what they do, demonstrating and hurling insults at soldiers returning from Afghanistan, and doing the same in Wooten Basset at the funeral procession of those killed in action in Afghanistan.

Secret Past Of Prince William?

Prior to the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Moss, they voiced their intention to burn effigy’s of Kate outside Westminster Abbey. It didn’t happen, so I can only guess they changed their mind’s, or the police stepped in. It just makes me wonder how far this group wants to go in insulting everything British. The MAC website is full of anti-western propaganda and goes so far as to praise Muslim fighters.

The group was formed from the now banned Islam4UK that perpetrated similar acts in Britain, and Al Muhajiroun that was linked with terrorism.

Give The Bastards The Boot!

So why does the government not stamp down hard on these people and have them deported?

At A Funeral For Our Fallen

They come to live in Britain, probably on benefits, and do nothing but show their hatred for us and all we stand for. It is time Cameron and Co had them all arrested and deported back where they came from. No endless appeals – on the plane and  bye bye! Once far from our shores they can demonstrate as much as they like.

In the following clip are Muslims celebrating the life of Osama bin Laden, and who gets arrested by the police, you guessed it, British people protesting at the protesters. Proof enough that Muslims have more rights than the British population.

Don’t Upset The Muslims

During the time of the previous Labour government, these people were allowed to hold their demonstrations because Gordon Brown and his cronies were well into Muslim appeasement. You know:- “We don’t want to upset the Muslims!”

I sincerely hope we are not going to get more of the same tripe from the present government.

Size Frustration

Posted in Britain, England, Europe, Germany, Insanity, Modern World, Spain, UK, USA with tags , , , , , , , , on 11/09/2011 by floroy1942

Have you ever tried on a pair of trousers or skirt in a shop, and found the darned things don’t fit, even though its your size? A common enough problem for shoppers all over the world. From a recent article, it seems manufacturers in all countries tailor their wares for a set of sizes applicable (or perhaps most flattering) to their population.

Size 34, But My Size Is 32

It seems that e.g; an American size 34 would be the equivalent of a size 30 in France, because the French are naturally slimmer than their American counterparts. Britain and Germany etc. fall somewhere in between. Its the same with shoes, where no two manufacturers seem to agree on a standard size. In the clothes business, there are even major differences between shops on the same High Street. What is a size 32 in Top Shop will be a size 30 in say D&G.

This Towel Is Too Big!

This mis-matching of size is wide spread, and covers anything from shoes to bed sheets, dresses to pillow cases and coats to pillows. Bed sheets are a favourite pet hate of mine, for some have an enormous tuck-in , almost twice the size of the bed, while others have virtually none. I mean, really, a king size bed is a king size bed, is a king size bed, if you get my drift.

I also find it extremely annoying when I buy pillows for example, and have to make do with a pillow case almost twice as wide. Its like the pillow case manufacturers just decided to make a bag thingy but couldn’t think what for, and then someone had the bright idea they may do as a covering for pillows

This One Is Too Small

Try buying a bath towel for instance! In one shop it wouldn’t cover your errhhum!, while another is the size of a bed sheet and hides all your best features! While size differences may be a good thing for some people, it can mean an extremely frustrating problem for the shopper. Personally, I think it’s time for all manufacturers to get together and decide on a world-wide size system for all these important items. It sure would make life easier for the lowly buyers!

A Bungled Education System

Posted in Britain, Budget Cuts, Children, Conservative Party, David Cameron, England, English Schools, Government, Insanity, Liberal Party, MP's, Nick Clegg, Primary Education, Primary Schools, Teens, UK, USA with tags , , , , , on 10/09/2011 by floroy1942

Lancashire Hot Pot is a type of stew in which ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ goes in the pan, and this is probably the closest we will get to describing the British educational system at the moment.

Education is one of the cornerstone’s of any modern culture, and if you mess that up, you ruin not only people’s lives, but the future of the nation. So what has gone wrong in Britain?

Well, in a nutshell – politicians! If there is a way to mess up a perfectly good working system, politicians will find it!

Yea! Right!

Up to the beginning of the 60’s, we had a system of education that worked, and gave us many of the leading scientists, entrepreneurs and academics in the world. No one could touch us for sheer brilliance, not even the United States, who lured away most of our top scientists with promises of extravagant salaries (known as The Brain Drain).

In 1965,  Anthony Crosland, Secretary of State for Education for the then Labour government, introduced comprehensive schools. This was the catalyst for the de-fragmentation of UK education. From that moment on, we saw increased diversification into faith schools, technical schools, academies etc. etc. etc.

Each successive government since then has added its own few ingredients to the stew, and now today, we have a system of complete confusion, and on the verge of total collapse.

I Expected Better

I had hoped Cameron and Co. would have done something to fix the problem after 13 years of Labour meddling, but unfortunately, they have only succeeded in making the problem much worse by introducing ‘free’ schools, adding yet another variation to an already confused system. The kids don’t know where they belong, the parents don’t know which school is best for their child,  and the education staff are in complete disarray.

The evidence for this is everywhere you look. A youth that is semi-literate and unemployable, and teachers who don’t know what time of day it is! None of the ‘old style’subjects are taught properly anymore: history, geography, religious education, physical training, chemistry, and in many cases, physics.

A modern school: Teacher: “Right class! History is about the past, geography is where places are on the map, religion is about Jesus and all that stuff. – Karen, please pick up your pen dear! – Right, you can put it down now. – That was about all exercise which we call physical training. Next is chemistry, all about chemicals, and the last one is physics which concerns – errrr! Can anyone tell me what physics has to do with? – Jeremy? – Physical things? – Well I guess that is close enough. Right class, dismissed.”

Trying Hard But Getting Nowhere!

Sorry, just couldn’t resist it! It is indeed a sad indictment, when the education system of a country is so bad, that most of the pupils leaving it read and write like eight-year-olds. Sure, the figures look good when you see a 97% pass rate for GCSE, but when you consider that a twelve-year-old from 1955 could quite possibly have sailed through it, it doesn’t really mean much, especially in today’s hi-tech world.

Maybe we will have to wait for the next government (which will probably be Labour again so don’t hold your breath) for the UK education system to be kicked back into shape. But to be honest, I very much doubt if that will happen.

I reproduce a breakdown of the UK schools from the Independant newspaper which will probably surprise you:

Schools Graphic

3,446: There are 3,446 state secondary schools in England. The vast majority (about 2,950) are comprehensive in name. There are still 164 selective grammar schools in the country and the rest are either secondary modern schools or “high” schools (effectively secondary modern schools that choose to use a different name to describe themselves).

1,300: Within that 3,446 figure, there are 1,300 academies. The difference between these and those that remain maintained by the local authority is that they have the same freedoms as independent schools to set their own curriculum, hire non-qualified teachers and run their own affairs. There are, to complicate it further, two types of academies. There are those set up under the previous Labour government which have sponsors (education charities, private providers, independent schools and universities). There are 319 sponsored academies. Under the Coalition, existing state schools – firstly those described as “outstanding” by Ofsted – were allowed to transfer to academy status. There are 981 transferred academies.

10: A further complication is that virtually every state secondary school is a specialist school, specialising in one area or another of the curriculum. (There are at least 10 types of specialist schools including languages, science, maths, arts, sports, humanities and even rural studies.)

16,884: There are also 16,884 primary schools in England. Only a handful have decided to convert to academy status.

7,000: The picture is further complicated by the fact that about one in three English state schools (primary and secondary) are faith schools. There are just under 7,000 of these. They can either be voluntary aided or voluntary controlled. If they are voluntary controlled, the diocese or faith group has a far greater say over admissions. A breakdown of the faith schools reveals that there are 6,955 Christian state schools (mainly Church of England or Roman Catholic but with a handful of Methodist schools, too), 36 Jewish, six Muslim, two Sikh, one Hindu, one Greek Orthodox and one Seventh Day Adventist.

24: To this mixture can now be added the free schools: 24 of which have opened up for the first time this September. David Cameron has said he wants this figure to rise to the early hundreds in the next few years. Once it is set up, a free school has the same freedoms as an academy. The difference is that it is a new school started by a variety of parents’, teachers’ or faith groups (or education charity). It is also possible for a free school to be a faith school, but it must offer 50 per cent of its places to non-believers – a requirement not asked of mainstream faith schools.

2,415: To add to the mix, there are 2,415 independent schools: 1,625 primary and 790 secondary. These educate about 7 per cent of the school age population.

372: The picture elsewhere in the UK is simpler than in England. In Scotland there are 372 secondary schools, all comprehensive in intake. Of these, 53 are faith schools (all Catholic). There are 2,099 primary schools, 318 of which are denominational or faith schools, 314 Catholic, three episcopal and one Jewish.

1,435: In Wales, there are 1,435 primary schools and 222 secondary schools. All the secondary schools are fully comprehensive.

My thanks to the Independent.

From the above it is clear that some schools, e.g. acadamies, even have the power to hire unqualified teachers!!!

GCSE – A Worthless Piece Of Paper

The current mess has been criticised by no less than Professor Alan Smithers, a senior adviser to the Commons Education Select Committee, who said our education system is a ‘liquorice allsorts’ kind of system. He too argues that all children should have an equal opportunity for a good education. At the moment it is clear they do not.

There is but one way for education to go: One standard school system for the UK, and one curriculum for all. Once children have left school, they can go to acadamies to learn specialist subjects. GCSE’s should be hard so that only the most gifted are able to go to university.

What To Do With Obese Children

Posted in Benefits, Britain, Child Abuse, Child Discipline, Children, Diabetes, England, Europe, Modern World, Obesity, Overweight, Parenting, Teens, UK, USA with tags , , , on 06/09/2011 by floroy1942

I read an interesting article today, that states a family from Dundee with obese children, may lose their four youngest to foster homes. My immediate reaction was; About time too!

So Young - And Yet Too Fat To Walk!

This is holiday time on The Costa, and the beaches are rife with obese kids getting some sun. As soon as you see one, you only have to look at their parents to know why they are so fat, The parents are too!

It annoys me intensely to see parents who eat their way to an early grave, but care nothing about their offsprings health either. In my opinion, if adults want to stuff their faces until they can hardly move, so be it, but they have no right to condemn their children to the same fate.

Disgraceful!

It is a medical fact, that the majority of obese people will suffer diabetes and heart failure by the time they reach middle age, and just about all of them will never live long enough to draw their old age pension. Medical evidence has already shown a marked increase in diabetes and hardening of the arteries in children as young as ten, and why, because they are grossly overweight.

As a parent you have an obligation, perhaps the most important in your life, to see your children grow up healthy, and with the prospect of a long and happy life. But these days they don’t care a fig! Give the kids what they want, just so they are quiet and get out from under your feet. How many times have you seen kids in supermarkets following mummy or daddy with a massive bag of potato chips in their hand munching away merrily? How many times have you seen parents leaving the supermarket with half a dozen huge packets of the same in the trolley?

Mother and Daughter

I think much of the problem stems from some parents having children just to get the extra Family Allowance! Once they are born and the money rolls in who cares? The Dundee family have seven children – six of whom are overweight! The couple were warned three years ago their children were obese, and were monitored by Social Services for two years to see if they fed them proper food and got their weight down. The parents ignored the whole business, and it is for this reason Social Services want the children taken away and put in foster homes with no further contact with their parents.

Well, It Keeps Him Quiet!

Considering the fact that government estimates say more than 50% of the population will be obese in a decade or so, I consider this sort of action important. If the parents care so little for their children, then I believe this is the correct approach. Children must be given the chance of a full life, not be doomed to an early grave because their parents don’t care! I will be interested to see how this case turns out, for if it is successful, then I hope many more children will be removed from their lazy uncaring  parents.

‘Free’ Schools – You Must Be Joking!

Posted in Britain, Child Abuse, Child Discipline, Children, Christianity, Conservative Party, David Cameron, England, English Schools, Government, Insanity, Liberal Party, MP's, Nick Clegg, Parenting, Primary Education, Primary Schools, Religion, Teens, UK with tags , , , , on 04/09/2011 by floroy1942

At a time when most teenagers are leaving school semi-literate, it is essential the government take positive action to improve education, but in typical government style, they messed it up!

Misguided on Education

It has been announced that the first 24 so-called ‘free’ schools are open for business, and I predict the scheme is doomed to failure from the start. All it will do is ensure our teenagers leave school dumber and more confused than ever.

How on earth can parents, teachers and charities be allowed to decide their own curriculum? It beggars belief! Have Cameron and his cronies gone completely crazy overnight, or more likely, have they been listening to some of the crackpots in the system?

To begin with, considering most parents fall into the semi-literate category these days with standards of education that make them unemployable, how can they decide what their children should learn in school? Secondly, What the hell have charities to do with education? What could their input possibly be. How to wrap an aid parcel for Africa, or stand on a pavement collecting pennies! Perhaps a little simplistic for some, but you know what I mean. The point being, what makes charity workers and parents qualified to decide what is taught in our schools? It will certainly open the door to the ‘all-knowing’ crackpots who think they know best!

Pupils in School

I am so dumbfounded, I just cannot believe that any sane government would go down this road. It has always been essential that school curriculums be set by the government and taught in every school in the land. That’s why they call it The National curriculum for crying out loud! Only in this way can everyone be guaranteed the same level of education.

Doing it the governments way, we could find one school is teaching geography while another isn’t, and a different school could be teaching history while another isn’t.

But I Was Doing History!

What if ‘Johnny Fox’ goes to school in Nottingham, and then because his father gets a new job in Manchester, he has to change schools. They teach history in Nottingham but not in Manchester. They do geography instead! What is the child to do? Can anyone in the government answer that one for me? I doubt it!

Apparently, the Department of Education has only stipulated that English, maths and science must be taught.  Religious education must also be part of the programme and can be a single faith or many. It doesn’t stipulate that Christianity must be taught in a Christian country, but maybe that is so as not to upset the Muslims!

Let's Have Some PT To Fight Obesity

Why for example, have mandatory physical training classes not been introduced from primary school onward? We all know about the new boom in obesity, and many children fall into this category. Starting them on a regular exercise schedule, i.e. PT, from the age of five or six could be an effective way of combatting this.

‘Free’ schools, as prescribed by the government, will lead to hopeless confusion in schools, and for the pupils. The only positive things about the plan is that children will spend longer hours in school, and class sizes will be smaller.

It’s all right for Nick Clegg to prattle on about: “UK has one of most segregated school systems in the world”, but this is the fault of the previous Labour government. They allowed schools to ignore the national curriculum  in high immigrant areas, and changes to our education system by even having classes in foreign languages, like Arabic for Muslims etc. instead of insisting that all immigrant children learn English!

Muslim Classes - Evenings or Weekends

All children emigrating to England should attend national curriculum classes, and if they want to learn about e.g. the Muslim culture, they do it at weekends or evening classes run by Muslims. It is the only way they can properly learn about our culture and integrate. They are after all coming to live in the UK, and must adapt their lifestyle to our ways, while still being able to retain their own culture.

The coalition government it definately going in the wrong direction with this plan. I can only conclude that somewhere in the Education Ministry there is a nutter on the loose, and everyone there is listening to him/her.

Please God, Save our Country from total idiots!

Out With The Old (Bulbs), In With The New!

Posted in Britain, England, Environment, Europe, Modern World, UK with tags , , , on 02/09/2011 by floroy1942

It is a fact that British people hate change more than anything else! Anyone doubting this statement should review people’s reactions to replacement of the old standard tungsten light bulbs with the new low energy ones. From all the comments on news items on the subject I would estimate that only 5% are positive.

Energy Gobbler

Over the years, E.U. regulations have slowly banned use of the old energy gobbling lamps with the new energy efficient models that are replacing them. You can now use three 40watt lamps and use no more power than one of the old type, but can the British understand this – not on yer life!!! An equivelant new lamp to your old one will give you a 75% energy saving. As if that is not important in this day and age?????

Complaints range from “they take too long to light up”, “they are not as bright as the old ones” and most ridiculous of all, “they don’t last as long”. Poppycock!

One of the biggest complaints is that the new lamps give out less light than the old ones. If you are used to a 60watt lamp and the new one is not bright enough, you can put in the equivalent of a 100watt or even a 150watt lamp and still use a lot less energy. While it is true you may have to wait a second before some makes of lamp come on, there are others that come on straight away. I have used them for years in my own house. As for the argument they do not last as long, you will get about 9000hrs from a new type where the old ones usually blew after a few hundred hours.

Many Lamps For Many Purposes

I agree, they are more expensive, but considering they will last more than eight times longer than the old bulbs I don’t see a problem. It is also true you need to buy the correct lamp tailored for your intended use to get the maximun efficiency. Hey! You don’t buy a bicycle if you’re running a taxi business!

Many people are complaining they do not work with dimmer switches, and if that is the case, you either have the wrong dimmer or you are buying the wrong bulbs, for many do work with dimmers.

If you ‘bite the bullet’ and get on with it, you will eventually see a drop in your electricity usage, and that means more money in your pocket, so stop whining!!!!!!!

Light In Our Darkness...

All across Europe, country after country has switched to the new model and accepted them for what they are, A huge energy saver! Only the Brits are moaning about it, and I wonder if this is based more on their mistrust and hatred of the E.U. than the lamps themselves.

There is a constant chorus of “the E.U. this” and “the E.U. that”, constant complaints about E.U. Legislation for this, that, and the other. If you don’t like the E.U. get out! Lock yourselves away on your island and leave the rest of us in peace!!!!
