The Unbelievable Stupidity of Some Voters!

Speaks For Itself!

Reading a news article today I was amazed at how short-sighted and stupid some of the general public are when it comes to voting. The results of an opinion poll just released, say that support for Labour now stands at 43% over the Conservatives 32%. In broad terms, this means that should a general election be held today, Labour would romp home with an 11 point lead.

As saving grace, the public does seem to think that Con/Lib George Osborne is more likely to solve the countries economic problems than Labour’s Ed Balls.

But in general, it’s the same old story really, one Party makes a mess of things, and their replacement, while trying to sort out the problems they inherited, get kicked in the shins. What a short memory Labour voters have!

Most seem to have forgotten already that Britain’s problems were caused by the incompetent Labour Party in the first place.

Architects of Chaos

It was the Blair/Brown combination that instigated the massive overspend and the huge unemployment with their policies during the Labour years. Now that is thankfully at an end, a shaky coalition is now trying to get the country back on its feet and find jobs for everyone.

While this is not an impossible task, it is clear that everyone must make sacrifices in order to balance the books. It has to mean higher taxes, and less take-home pay for all, for the simple reason there is no other way! But do the voters understand this? It doesn’t look like it.

People voluntarily taking a cut in pay to ease the financial burden is not unheard of. In this time of crisis it is happening in other countries like Holland. The people don’t like it, but they have the common sense to see that it is necessary to get the economy back on an even keel.

Another Broken Promise From Brown

Conversely, according to reports, it looks very much like Britain is about to be overtaken by a wave of strikes as workers protest at the measures taken. So this year, the working class will perhaps have to limit their drinking to 8 pints instead of 10 at the pub, and the middle class may have to spend their holiday in Blackpool instead of Majorca, but its only temporary folks!

Thankfully, the excesses encouraged by the last Labour government had to come to an end. Britain’s financial state is more precarious than it has been for decades, and only action by a strong government will balance the books at the end of the day. But it means everyone must make do with a little less!

Of course, if things follow the normal pattern, once the Tory/Liberal coalition have got the country back on its feet and the books balance once again, the voter will think its time for a change and Labour will be in again.

Labour’s Legacy – Immigrants Queueing To Get In

Tony Blair and his henchmen brought the country to its knees with their ill-conceived policies. Perhaps the biggest mistake was opening the country’s doors to allow just about anyone to come and live here, even extremists! For decades these people have lived off the tax-payer, made a mockery of our justice system, and when they do finally do some work, take jobs away from ethnic Brits.

What seems to escape many, is that the jobs market in any country is a fine balance between the number of inhabitants and the number of jobs available. Its simple mathematics: Twenty into twenty goes once – forty into twenty goes a half! If you have two applicants for a single job one must lose out, which in turn means he/she is living off the state in the form of benefits and dole money. More governmental expense.

The Final Goal

So this leads me to the question, why did Blair & Co actively encourage hundreds of thousands of immigrants to enter the country during their term of office. Well, according to ‘those in the know’, it came down to two things; Blair had a vision of a multi-cultural Britain, and of course, the immigrants were sure to vote Labour in a general election.

What We, The People Pay For!

But look where it got us! Immigrants living in stately mansions in the centre of London with a weekly rent of £2,000+ paid for by the tax payer! Its disgusting, its insulting and it should never have been allowed.

The country had its share of illegal immigrants too, but what did Tony do, he gave them free housing and benefits for all the years it took their case to be heard, and usually ended up giving them citizenship anyway. More expense to the public purse, and more jobs lost to those with the right to them.

Now we see the Cameron/ Clegg combination attempting to sort out the mess they inherited and getting caned for trying. What we the people have to consider, is the job will be very hard and we the people, must be willing to make sacrifices to achieve the goal of economic stability for all.

The Cost

It just seems crazy that many will vote in those who caused the trouble in the first place because they may lose £20 pounds a week. Balancing the country’s books in the current economic climate will be a sore test for any government, and although mistakes will be made along the way (no-one is perfect) it will be hard but equally necessary. This is no reason to vote in at the next election the clowns who got us in this mess in the first place. Better two years of austerity and a return to ‘the good life’.

On The Right Track? – Give Them A Chance!

One can only hope that future polls will see the balance swing the other way, for as we all know, they are only a rough indicator of public feeling.

Will The Current Defence Review Cost Britain the Falklands?

Posted in Atlantic, Britain, Budget Cuts, England, Government, Government Spending, Insanity, MP's, Oceans, Parliament, Royal Navy, UK with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on 27/01/2011 by floroy1942

As always, defence spending is the first thing to be cut when money is seen to be tight. And as usual, the politicians make the same stupid, short-sighted decisions. It seems the present Coalition is no different.

HMS Ark Royal

Currently, the Royal Navy is to be hit hard in that its aircraft carrier fleet is to be scrapped. True, two new carriers are supposed to be built to replace those we have now, but apart from the fact they will not be ready until somewhere around 2017, their future is now in doubt even though construction has begun, and in which £1 billion has already been invested.

Hopefully, One of The Royal Navy's New Carriers

All branches of the armed forces will be hit, but by far the most significant is the proposed phasing out of all three aircraft carriers by 2015. Ark Royal has already been decommissioned, and Invincible and Illustrious are soon to follow. This will leave Britain without a single carrier until around 2017 when, hopefully, maybe, the navy will receive their two replacements at a cost. This cost is a significant reduction in their surface ships to help pay for the new carriers.

It’s like the Falklands war of 1982 never happened!

Without her aircraft carriers, Britain would have stood helplessly by while Argentina took over the islands at their leisure after the invasion, with no amount of harsh words from Margaret Thatcher making any difference.

A Harrier Lands on Deck

As it was, our carrier force with their Harrier VTOL aircraft, was the only thing Britain had in its military arsenal that could effectively strike back at the invaders. As we all know, the entire operation was a resounding success.

But what of today and the near future?

It would seem the current government has forgotten the lessons of the past, and are ready and willing to make the same mistakes when the scrapping of the CVA01 carriers almost cost us the Falklands.

The Argentine government must be rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of a neutered Royal Navy who will be helpless should they try again in three or four years time. I’ll bet their generals have already started making plans for a new invasion of the islands, knowing full well the British will have no choice but to stand impotent on the sidelines.

The Mighty Vulcan Bomber

Since that conflict in 1982 the RAF has also suffered significant cuts to its budget and aircraft. During the previous conflict, the Vulcan and Victor cold-war bombers played a key role with their huge range of action, bombing targets like the runway at Stanley airfield and attacking the radar installations on the island. They too are long gone! Now Britain has no bombers at all with the range to strike at the Falklands.

The Harrier fleet, which proved so effective against the Argentinean air force has been decommissioned also, but that doesn’t seem to stop the politicians from a proposal which will see a scaling down of the number of Joint-Strike fighters to be ordered.

The Falklands

As I see it, this defence review will prove to be a catastrophe for the Falkland islanders, who in my view had better start learning Argentinean, for in about four years time they will need it.

They Want To Re-Edit ‘The King’s Speech!!!

Posted in England, Insanity, Modern World, Parenting, Teens, UK, USA with tags , , , , on 26/01/2011 by floroy1942

It has been revealed today that the director of the UK box-office hit ‘The Kings Speech’ wants to re-edit the soundtrack of the movie to make it more accessible to families in the US. To my knowledge, this is the first time such a thing has been done.

Colin Firth as King George VI

But why would Tom Hooper want to do such a thing? Well, it appears the film got downgraded from a PG rating to a 12+ rating in the UK (after complaints by the director) by the British Board of Film Censors. The reason for the original high rating was simple: foul language!

I have never seen the sense in bombarding the film-going public with foul language in the first place. For the last ten years or so, when Hollywood first introduced the cinema audience to this phenomena, language in the movies has steadily got worse.

For example, in the last twelve months I have heard actors using the F word in every breath and have to ask myself, why is this necessary? Is it for so-called authenticity? Funny, but the old-time film makers managed to get just as much of it into a movie with nothing more than the occasional ‘darn’.

The Real King George VI

That the foul language on the big screen has corrupted our youth is in my mind beyond question. Walk the streets of Britain today and you hear mothers with their children ‘f’ing and blinding right left and centre like tarts. When the children reply they are just as bad.

Many times my wife and I have sat in our local ‘watering hole’ and heard Brits at the next table ‘f’ this and ‘f’ that in a constant stream. Sadly the women are just as bad as the men.

Even on TV you cannot escape it as uncouth guests on talk shows, or members of a game show panel give vent to their invective at will.

So why is bad language necessary in a film about the speech problems of King George VI? Personally I do not see it!

Baroness Warsi On the Wrong Foot

It is not unusual for people in a position of power to make ill-advised statements aimed at the general public, and it would seem Baroness Warsi, co-leader of the Conservative Party and cabinet minister in Davis Cameron’s Coalition government, is no exception.

Baroness Warsi

She is the first Muslim member of the cabinet, and like most politicians, has ‘engaged mouth before brain’ on a subject extremely controversial in Britain at the moment; that of Islamophobia.

Extracts of a speech she intends giving to Leicester University today (20/1/2011) were leaked to the press in advance and have already raised a storm of criticism across most newspapers in the country.

The rank and file have certainly let loose in no uncertain terms in comments on the news story. Not only as a leading politician, but also as a Muslim she seems totally out of touch with public opinion. This, lets face it, is not unusual for a politician!

In her speech she claims that Islamophobia, and the separation of Muslims into two general groups, i.e., moderate and extremist, has become socially acceptable in Britain today and could lead to the further alienation of the Muslim community. What else did the silly woman expect when we’ve had terrorism on the streets?

A Suitcase Nuclear Weapon

Western nations have increasingly come under attack from Muslim terror groups ever since 9/11. Many people are holding their collective breath hoping Bin Laden and his cronies don’t get hold of a nuclear weapon!

The very fact that people put Muslims into two categories shows clearly not all Muslims are blamed for the violence aimed at them.

Despite what she says, there is widespread apathy among Muslim communities in Britain when it comes to condemning terrorism. I have not yet heard of any group in any country stepping forward and condemning in the strongest terms the violence committed by their brethren, and what is more, I don’t think I ever will. This point was raised by many commentators on the report in The Daily Telegraph.

In most peoples minds, if you don’t condemn a certain action, then by default you condone it. It is to the Baroness’s credit that in the proposed speech, she asks moderate Muslim groups to disassociate themselves from extremist Muslims saying; “Those who commit criminal acts of terrorism in our country need to be dealt with not just by the full force of the law,” adding “They also should face social rejection and alienation across society and their acts must not be used as an opportunity to tar all Muslims.” At least she got one thing right!

Baroness Warsi has proven by this outburst, that she has failed completely to understand the concerns the british people have over the massive Muslim immigration that took place under that last Labour government.

In 2001 there were 1.6 million Muslims in the country, which today has risen to 2.9 million, an increase of almost 100%. Thanks Tony!!!!

She Has At Least Learnt One Of Our Traditions!

The main thing that irritates the british public is the refusal of the majority of these immigrants to assimilate into our society. When you adopt a new country as your own you are expected, quite rightly, to obey the laws and accept the culture, traditions and language of your new home. You do NOT bring with you your own laws, culture and traditions and force them on your hosts.

Daily we hear of the so-called ‘hate preachers’ in mosques who make full use of the liberal free speech laws of our country to spread their poison across the community.

It has been amply proven that many races such as Jews, Indians and former members of the Caribbean nations who moved to Britain for a better life, have assimilated into our ways practically trouble free, for the simple reason they are prepared to. This cannot be said of the Muslim population, for they have housed themselves in close-knit communities and practically sealed themselves off from the british way of life.

They have their own system of laws (Sharia), and continue with traditions like polygamy, ‘honour’ killings’, and the mutilation of young girls genitalia. The Baroness has been condescending enough to admit some british Muslims do not do sufficient to integrate into society, which I think is an in-controversial fact!

Although now a member of the House of Lords, Baroness Warsi classes herself as a “Northern, working-class roots, urban, working mum” complete with Yorkshire accent, but, according to reports, received her title for one reason only, so she could serve in the shadow cabinet during the Labour years. She didn’t earn it!

Cameron and Baroness Warsi

After entering politics in 2004, she made a rapid rise through the ranks of the Conservative Party, mainly it seems because David Cameron liked her ‘plain speaking’, although some think she is too prone to making ‘gaffe’s’. Since May she has been a member of the cabinet.

Apparently, according to some reports, she has been heavily criticised by many extremist Muslims as not being “religious enough”. This I suppose could be interpreted as her not doing sufficient to help the Muslims get their own way!

As the most powerful Muslim woman in the country, why for example doesn’t she lead a concerted attack on all the hate preachers who infest the mosques of our land. These parasites incite hatred among the Muslim population for Britain and all it stands for. They have been responsible for the conversion of many formally moderate youths into extremists, that are not only responsible for many of the attacks on innocent people, but fight for the Taliban or Al Queda. If Baroness, you wish to use your position for something positive, that would be a good start.

If You Don’t Like It Here – GO HOME!

It would also be of considerable help if you would clear the streets of the extremist rabble who, making full use of our freedom of speech laws,  insult our dead soldiers who died fighting to free the Iraqi and Afghanistan people from the oppressive regime under which they lived, And lets not forget those malcontents who parade up and down with placards declaring ‘Islam will rule the world’ and “Behead those who insult Islam”.

In general terms, your speech is nothing less than I would expect from a Muslim living in our country. Instead of criticising this country and its people who gave you the opportunity to be where you are, try having a go at your own, that is of course presuming you can do that without ending up under a sentence of death from the extremists!!!

In conclusion I would like to point out most strongly, that any Muslim who comes to our shores ready and willing to accept our way of life, traditions and laws is, in my book, most welcome. On the other hand, those who will not should GO HOME!

When ‘Human Rights’ Go Too Far

Posted in Britain, Christianity, England, Europe, Gays, Germany, Homosexuals, Human Rights, Modern World, Political Correctness, Spain, UK, USA with tags , , , on 19/01/2011 by floroy1942

The basic concept of Human Rights is a noble one, or at least it was intended to be when first thought up. Sadly, times have changed.

It Seems Some Have More Rights Than Others!

Today, the laws are twisted and misused by many intent on getting their own way or evading justice, no matter what.

I find it distinctly disconcerting that the law not only allows this, but is complicit in many cases where the just rights of one individual are trampled by the courts because some malcontent feels he has been aggrieved.

I refer in the main to a case that came before a British court, brought by two homosexuals who were refused permission to stay in the hotel belonging to a devout christian couple in 2008.

The Chymorvah Hotel

Peter and Hazelmary Bull own the Chymorvah Private Hotel in Marazion near Penzance, and both hold strong christian believes. It has always been their policy not to allow unmarried couples, both heterosexual and homosexual, to share a bed in their hotel for they believe strongly in the sanctity of marriage.

This is indeed an unusual and refreshing attitude in this age of promiscuity, where it would seem anything, and indeed everything, goes.

The case against the Bull’s was brought by the homosexual ‘couple’ Martyn Hall and Steven Preddy who were turned away after they had booked a double room at the hotel because they were not married. They brought the case claiming sexual orientation discrimination under the Equality Act Regulations of 2007.

The Plaintiffs

The judge who heard the case, Judge Andrew Rutherford, agreed that the Bull’s had a right to their religious beliefs, but said social attitudes had changed in the last fifty years. While the Bull’s view may well have been the norm in those times, it was not in current society. For this reason he found in favour of Hall and Preddy.

The Hall’s were ordered to pay £1,800 to each of the plaintiffs, which thankfully has been covered by donations from The Christian Institute. Its interesting to note that Hall and Preddy’s case was funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission. So no big bills for them!

The Defendants – Standing Up For Christian Values

After the ruling Mrs Bull is quoted as saying: “I do feel that Christianity is being marginalised in Britain. The same laws used against us have been used to shut down faith-based adoption agencies. Much is said about ‘equality and diversity’ but it seems some people are more equal than others.” Oh I do so agree Madam!

While I may be classed as ‘old school’, I agree with the right of the Hall’s to ban undesirables from their hotel whenever they please, and I have a certain affinity with their reasons. We have become far too promiscuous these days, evidenced by the number of single parent teenage mothers on our streets daily, many the result of ‘a one night stand’.

That is not to say my beliefs are as strong as the Bull’s, for I do feel a little practice is necessary in a long-term attachment before marriage, even if its just to find out if you are completely compatible!

And Not A Cop To Be Seen!

Today sees ‘Gay Pride’ parades in many cities around the world, with these misfits cavorting around around naked, semi-naked or in outrageous costumes that would have participants in a heterosexual parade arrested on the spot for contravening the decency laws.

Is this what we want our children to see?

The Equality and Human Rights Laws have given these misfits a voice, allowing them to ride roughshod over the rights of decent, law-abiding citizens at will.

Who knows how long it will be before a pedophile for example, uses these same laws to gain the right, as a down trodden minority, to molest children! Yes, I know, that’s crazy, but if a convicted felon can use these laws to escape a jail sentence or a terrorist deportation, who is to say it won’t happen.

We as a race have gone too far down the road of iniquity, so far in fact that decent behaviour and morals have faded to insignificance for many. This I find sad!

Roy.

Postscript:

It’s nice to hear the Bull’s are to appeal the ruling by Judge Rutherford in the High Court. Hopefully, this time they will get proper justice.

Another Reason For Banning the Burka

Posted in Afghanistan, Arab, Britain, Europe, Human Rights, Immigration, Islamic Revolution, Justice, Modern World, Muslim, Parliament, Police, Police Complaints, Political Correctness, Prison, Religion, Sharia Law, Traffic, UK, UN, USA with tags , , , , on 16/01/2011 by floroy1942

Debate has been extensive over whether democratic nations should ban the burka, following the example of France. A very recent occurrence in Australia highlights the need for all western nations to take action on this subject.

The Burka Hides All!

A burka clad woman was pulled over by an Australian policeman for not having her provisional number plates displayed correctly. What ensued was outrageous, and were it not for a video camera running in the back of the police car, the constable could have had his life and career ruined by the woman who claimed he was racist. She claimed he pulled her over because she was wearing a burka and accused him of trying to remove her face covering.

On being released she went to the local media with her story and also filed a complaint against the policeman for racism. When the case went to court, the film was shown and the constable exonerated. The woman then claimed, through her lawyer, it was not her in the car but someone else.

Thankfully justice was served, for the judge did not believe her and it is said she could serve six months in prison.

You can see the full report using the following link:

Which One is My Wife?

The whole episode does however indicate that Muslim women can use the veil as a refuge from justice by the very fact they cannot be identified with certainty. This is wrong in our open society and should not be allowed.

Who Knows What the Burka Hides!

Muslims claim religious grounds for covering their women’s faces and I have no objection to that, but when they live in our society they should live by our rules. Everyone here is readily identifiable from facial features, but where the burka is concerned, even a man can wear one and pass himself off as a woman. This is wrong and it is time to put an end to this farce.

Electric Cars a Viable Alternative?

Posted in Britain, England, Environment, Europe, Insanity, Modern World, Nuclear, Radioactive Waste, Toxic Waste, Traffic, Travel, UK, USA with tags , , , , , , , on 15/01/2011 by floroy1942

Are electric cars a real alternative to the internal combustion engine? The short answer is no! The truth is, we are still a long way from replacing ‘old faithful’.

A Renault Concept Car: Z17

Various car makers have started (or will soon) introducing new models onto the market, among them Renault amid a lot of hype about industrial espionage. What a free promotion gift that was!

In general, they fall into three basic categories based on range. The ‘city’ car has a range of up to 100 miles, the ‘intermediaries’ with 100 to 200 miles, and the ‘top’ class which can supposedly reach 350 miles like the ZAP-X. The one thing that stands out is the price. You pay through the nose for extra mileage! The estimated cost of a ZAP is $60,000.

Range is the driving factor for any electric vehicle i.e.: How far can I drive before recharging, and how long does it take to recharge?

The BBC’s Brian Milligan and Mini

I read with some interest an article by a BBC reporter, Brian Milligan, who made a journey from London to Edinburgh in Scotland, a distance of 484 miles, in an all-electric Mini. It took him four days! “Well”, the pundits might say; “at least he made it”. It’s interesting to note that he did return to London by train, and the car was returned on a trailer.

While his vehicle was not perhaps the optimum for such a long drive it does highlight many of the problems associated with electric cars.

The Mini is advertised with a range of “155 miles under ideal driving conditions** (104 miles estimated under normal driving conditions)” with a charging time of “Approximately 4.5 hrs (240 volt, 32 amps outlet)”. In reality, the intrepid reporter was faced with a somewhat different scenario.

First and foremost, the trial took place in winter, which automatically reduced battery power by up to 25%, giving only 70 to 80 miles per charge. Secondly, charging times were between 6 and 8 hours and not the 4.5 as advertised.

Also, you will not find anything in electric car brochures telling you that running the heater or radio will significantly reduce battery life. Driving at night, when you need headlights, drains the battery even quicker. During his journey North, Brian Milligan spent many cold periods in the car because he was forced to sacrifice warmth for range.

Route Details

Upon completion of the journey, taking into account charging times, his estimated speed over the 484 miles was just 6 m.p.h. Not exactly mind-boggling! He was however sensible, for he made sure he had plenty of reading material with him in the form of thick books with which to while away the endless hours of recharging the batteries every 70 to 80 miles.

You can read first-hand an account of the journey on the BBC website under:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12138420

Zapa – 350 Miles?

Not what I would call an inspiring advertisement for the use of electric cars. There are of course other alternatives on the market that may fair better than the Mini, but I wouldn’t bet on much of an improvement.

If you need a car just to get around town then it is feasible to invest in electric, for short journeys are within the capabilities of an electric vehicle, but that means you would also need a ‘normal’ car for longer journeys, which makes it an expensive business. Oh! And don’t think about taking much luggage with you when you go to visit mother-in law, for just about every nook and cranny in the car is reserved for storing the batteries!

Apart from the obvious frustration of not knowing if you will reach your destination on an ‘electric’ journey and maybe freezing in the process, there is also another serious problem if we all ‘Go Electric’.

Millions of Vehicles?

No-one seems to have thought about how our power sources are going to survive thousands, maybe millions of cars being plugged in to feed their power hungry batteries!

It seems to me we are slowly staggering from one major problem to an even greater catastrophe!

There can be little doubt in anyone’s mind, that the current power output in all countries could not possibly handle the huge demand for electricity when everyone drives battery powered cars. It’s a logistical impossibility!

It would mean a huge increase in the number of power generating stations, which would either accelerate the use of the world’s valuable resources, or require a massive expansion in the number of nuclear generators. This is turn would increase the nuclear waste.

It is certain that ‘Road-Side Assistance’ companies would see a large increase in workload rescuing drivers with dead batteries. If you are thinking of starting a business that would be the way to go!

Other alternatives like bio-fuels and hydrogen are not worth thinking of, for they too have serious drawbacks. To run bio-fuels we need land to grow the crops from which it is made, and experience has already shown that we cannot, for we need the land to grow food.

Volatile and Dangerous

Hydrogen is considered by some to provide an alternative, but by its very unstable and volatile nature, we cannot use it unless some means of safely storing and transporting the gas is found.

So far as I can see, the only viable alternative to our current crisis is the Hybrid.

Hybrid – The Only Viable Alternative (for the moment)

It is true we will not be ridding our planet of its most contaminating influence, but going hybrid will give us a breathing space in which we can hopefully find a more satisfactory solution. Hybrid cars do not need to feed off our power grids but charge themselves when running ‘old reliable’, and judicious use of the system will reduce the output of dangerous gases considerably.

The evidence is here that it’s quicker by train.

May your batteries never run flat!

Roy.
