Any Excuse For Thuggery? – The Student Riots.

Last week saw the centre of London turned into a battlefield once again as students rioted in protest over the increase in tuition fees. As usual it turned nasty, with major property damage and an attack on members of the Royal Household.

The Peaceful Part of the Student Demonstration

Any demonstration, organized for whatever purpose in the UK today, is hi-jacked by a criminal element intent on ‘having a go’ at the police, and causing as much damage and destruction as possible just to satisfy their own warped lust for violence.

That there were tens of thousands of peaceful demonstrators at this event is beyond question, but sadly, as usual, it was the criminal element that got into the news.

Among much of the youth in Britain today, there is an underlying current of violence seething just below the surface that finds an outlet when good people take to the streets to protest against something they perceive as wrong. The end result is always the same, a pitched battle with police that escalates into innocent people being caught up in it.

Is This What We Want on Our Streets – Anarchy?

Among a crowd of 100,000 peaceful demonstrators, less than 100 thugs can turn the event into something reminiscent of a war zone in a matter of minutes. It is true to say that many people, initially innocent, start getting aggressive trying to protect one or more of ‘their’ number being arrested by the police, and so it escalates.

What these ‘innocents’ do not seem to understand, is that the person or persons they are trying to defend from the police are there for the express purpose of causing violence, and turning the whole event into a riot.

I am convinced that those responsible for initiating the violence last week have never seen the inside of a university, and probably never even finished secondary school. These are the type of people responsible for much of the thuggery in our towns and cities, and who spend their time selling drugs, getting drunk, stealing cars and anything else that is not nailed down. Most will without doubt become inmates of HM prisons.

Students or Thugs? I Think the Latter!

The police have issued photo’s of those individuals they have been able to identify as troublemakers. If you wish to have no more repeats of last weeks violence and know them, you should turn them in.

It is worth noting one of the comments attached to the following Daily Telegraph video report which reads as follows:

hey kids, lets learn how to kick the shit out of riotpolice:

A) coppers hate it when u splinter, coz they cant manage every splinter group. splinter like fuck!

B) coppers can’t see through there visers and shields if you spray paint in there face!

C) potassium nitrate+suger+naga jolokia (chilli) is your home made C.S gas (strong enough to fend off elephants)

D) thermite (easy to make and not illegal!)

E) petrol bombs, ad oil or styrophome (makes it sticky)

F) wear black

any questions?

It should be obvious to even the most dull among us that considering the atrocious use of the English language the writer is not a student!!! This is a prime example of why you too should back our police force against this rabble instead of complaining when they do the job we, the general public, ask them to do.

YOU Will Have to Pay For the Replacements! – Happy?

Because no-one, least of all their parents, has seen fit to give these malcontents a sense of direction in life they turned to the easy way of making money i.e. crime and violence. I am sure they are hooked on the adrenaline rush they get from destroying things they see they can never have.

There is little doubt that, as in other demonstrations, the mayhem witnessed had nothing whatsoever to do with the increase in tuition fees at universities.

At each successive demonstration more and more violence is aimed at the police, but sad to say, the public in general always sees them as the culprits. After a pitched battle in the city centre, where tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds of damage is done, with scores of policemen as well as demonstrators requiring hospital treatment, the following days headlines trumpet stories of police brutality and heavy-handed tactics. Sorry! But I for one don’t fall for that crop of bullshit!

Maybe This is Why Your Insurance is Sky-High

Throughout history we British have boasted about our ‘Thin Red Line’ holding back hoards attackers, well, now we have the thin blue line and as a nation we should get behind them. During this last demonstration the police tell us their helmet visors were deliberately splashed with paint(Ref. above comment), forcing them to lift them so they could see. As soon as the visor was lifted they were savagely pelted in the face with rocks or billiard balls. Many suffered serious injuries as a result.

But do we hear this action condemned? No of course not, instead everyone is complaining about police attempts to confine the violence and destruction to a small area with a tactic called ‘kettling’. This means the police work to confine the violent demonstrators to a small area and thereby stop them from running wild throughout the centre of London.

It is a very effective tactic for which many shop and business owners should be grateful, for was this not enforced the damage would have been very widespread indeed. Who can tell how many shop fronts and cars would have been destroyed if these people had been free to roam the streets at will.

The sad thing is, instead of praise for confining the acts of destruction, the police were heavily criticised!

For the Police A Hopeless Task

It must seem to many that whatever the police do in such circumstances they cannot win public confidence. I rather think that if I was Chief Constable of London I would keep all my officers off the streets during the next demonstration, and let people see what happens when the thugs are given free rein. Then you will hear the screams of condemnation across the entire country with cries of; why didn’t the police do their job? You can’t have it both ways folks! Either you fully back the police when they try to keep the peace, or you don’t. But if you don’t, then quit moaning when your car, shop or house is vandalised during demonstration violence.

When their hands are constantly tied, and their efforts to maintain order vilified, why should they risk serious injury on our behalf?

The instigators of the violence are well aware of the press reaction after they have had their fun, and know full well that the police will bear the brunt of the blame by supposedly ‘inciting violence’.

Alfie Meadows

This weekend a youth was hit with a police truncheon and later required brain surgery. Needless to say it was banner headlines in the gutter press with cries of police brutality. Yet, no-one, and I repeat no-one, has yet questioned what the situation was prior to the incident, and what caused the policeman to lash out. For all we know the young man may have been about to bash in some policeman’s head with a rock and it was a defensive action. But no! Without any of the facts being presented the police get the blame for brutality. Either way, the young man does have my best wishes for a good recovery, and should it be proven the blow was unjustified the one responsible should be dealt with.

Not a Thug? Then Why The Mask?

Over the last few years our law enforcement body has come under constant attack by demonstrators for their supposed heavy-handed tactics, but in my opinion, if you are bent on violence and destruction “You Reap What You Sow”.

I am sure the organizers planned a peaceful demonstration, but the problem is, it’s practically hopeless trying to prevent it being hi-jacked by the criminal element. It is becoming impossible to separate the thugs from the people who just wish to make their voices heard. Once news spreads of any planned demonstration, those who get their kicks from violence turn up from all over the country relishing the idea of causing mayhem once more.

German Police Water Cannon in Action

I am of the opinion that our police forces should be given the same powers as German police. Violent demonstrations in Germany are usually over quickly, because the police are allowed to use proper containment and crowd dispersal tactics that here would have everyone screaming police brutality.

It is time our police were also allowed  the use of water cannon on the streets of our towns and cities when demonstrations become ugly. The time for pussy-footing around with this bunch of trouble makers should be ended once and for all.

On the Receiving End of Demonstrators Wrath At the Government

The fact that Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles got caught up in the violence will I am sure be thoroughly investigated. From the fierceness of the attack one would imagine that Prince Charles was solely responsible for the increase in tuition fees. It is shameful that such acts should be perpetrated against a future king on the streets of London.

It makes me think that Britain as a country has lost its soul and is descending into the dark pit from which it will never emerge. God help us all!

Roy.
